  • Bathroom thought: Which Vocaloids should you never give coffee?
i just realized haruno sora's voicepeak design has avanna bangs and i can't unsee it

it's funny because they both have that sort of "old soul" air to them haha (i think avanna's vp was pretty young when she voiced her but she still has this old-fashioned grace to her)

honestly i can see them being friends despite the language barrier
Last night I thought of some Hidden Depths for AVANNA- delicate, mellow and slow-paced on the surface, but deep down is a HERO with surprising strength and bravery (still no speedster, but true to her fantasy theme her aim is on POINT)

...and she'd probably be just as polite through it all anyway
honestly, yeah, i do love that gumi is turning out to be a great "middle of the road" vocal between miku's bright high pitch and avanna's soft low tone. plus that gives me another personality to work with for talkloids
been playing around with gumi a lot and she's super versatile! i don't like that her designs tend to be fanservice-y but i absolutely love how retro she looks, plus her voice has this hint of tomboyishness that makes me feel like i need a male synth a little less, since she can sing the songs of some of my favorite male singers no problem.

she DOES, of course, still have the glottal stop issue but that's pretty easily fixed and i'm used to extensive phoneme editing because of miku.

i love that raspy voice type tbh. one of my favorite christian singers is david crowder for example, i think his voice + singing style is really cool
Update: After losing sleep over the agonizing decision of which Vocaloid to buy with my birthday funds, Gumi English is mine! I hope to have lots of fun using her despite her infamous broken transitions. (With Miku and Avanna also in my roster, apparently I like green. XD) :gumi_lili:

Also, happy birthday, Eleanor Forte! We're kinda-sorta twins! Lol :eleanorforte_lili:
summer headcanon: miku either tans (somehow) or is just straight-up unaffected, avanna very much burns

like, they come home from the beach and miku looks nice while avanna is as red as a tomato because she forgot to slather on the spf

also, avanna gets hot easily. and has trouble handling spicy food. so she is very much on the cooler side of things XP

miku, on the other hand, LOVES summer (though i guess that's not saying much; she loves EVERY season)
i love how japanese, english and chinese vocaloids all have a resident "proper lady" vocal; japan has luka, the anglosphere has avanna and china has qingxian

curvy physique, late teens or early 20s, medium-long hair worn down, wears a dress or longer skirt as a default outfit, mezzo or alto, elegant ladylike appearance...

and they all have different sort of implied personalities too. luka's husky, suave and moody, has some antique theming to her design, and has a bit more of a serious look to her (at least in v2; her v4x design lightens up some but is still elegant); avanna's voice is warm, deep and sweet and she has an old-fashioned fantasy theme and a gentle cheerfulness to her design; and qingxian's voice is a bit stronger and she's got her modern, stylish and mysterious outlook and kind yet lethargic personality. qingxian is 17 i believe, avanna's 18 and luka's 20; qingxian's about 5'7", avanna's 5'6" and luka's around 5'3-4"

i can kind of imagine them meeting and becoming an unofficial trio

Spanish you have Clara who is your womanly, intrepid and buoyant lady... Only Korean hasn't any unless you can count either SeeU or UNI (but then having SeeU being the diva type and UNI being the friendly coach-like big sister)

I think UNI counts more than SeeU does; though her voice is high, she does have the "big sister" thing down.
Do you ever think about which Vocaloids would have parents/families if any of them? I mean, unless Kiyoteru's raising her it'd make sense for Yuki to have parents or at least a legal guardian, for example.

It also makes me wonder if any of them would have dating or married lives outside of like, other Vocaloids.

I know a lot of people headcanon that VOCALOID characters are akin to real people living complete lives, but for me, it's more about what the characters symbolize/represent. To me, their lives/stories are the art and music we create with them. So I don't typically think about these things, I guess maybe because it feels like the characters are further separate from us in those kinds of contexts. Just my personal preference.

I do! I have a whole setting made up for stuff like this! Like I have Leon and Lola as Chris and Amy's parents, and Ann and Al are co-parenting Oliver. Also Miki and Piko are cousins.
Memories of when AI wasn't a big thing yet but people still managed to make concatenative synths sound AMAZING

(...honestly i wanna be one of those people. which is hard to do with the temptation to just fall back on ai, but i can do this!)

Same, I always wondered how they did that. Even with the few tuned examples that were given out.. any time I tried to do what they do it just doesn't sound like that. I want to learn the concatenative magic :mirai_ani_lili:

Fr, it's less impressive now. I hope we see more experimentation in styles since AI tends to make voices all sound the same
