  • Didn't think I'd get this sleeve fully done until next month, but it was completed today!

I'm gonna take a break from getting tattooed for a bit while I think of ideas for a leg sleeve. My mum is horrified at the idea, but pain aside (no matter how many times you go under the needle, the pain never eases up), I've been really enjoying getting art on my body. My boyfriend reckons I'll be fully covered by the time I turn 30.
I've only just remembered that 'V6' is sometimes used as a fan nickname for the game VVVVVV. Now I kinda want an acapella of one of the tracks from that game featuring the current V6 starters and Gumi AI lol.
I've just heard my next door neighbours play Ievan Polka outside. For context, we live pretty much in the middle of England, which has a reputation of being highly uncultured.
I'm pleased to say the Mario movie looks promising, based on the short trailer that Nintendo just dropped. Or at the very least, it didn't make me scream in horror lol.

@Legally Pipp Petals Based on what little we heard of Pratt in the trailer, it sounds like he's taking cues from the DiC Mario cartoon by giving Mario himself a Brooklyn accent.

yeah I don't really have strong opinion on how he sounds, I'm not even invested in the Mario franchise to be upset, I just find it funny cuz Chris Pratt is somewhat of a meme at this point.
    When you watch one of those Vocaloid fandom shaming meme videos on YT, and you realise you're way more out of touch with the current fandom than you originally thought. ^^;
Had my first archive visit today, and now I really feel like I'm living the dark academia student lifestyle (if it wasn't wasn't the fact we're having a heatwave this week).
In other random events in my life, I stupidly made a bet with my mum that if I grew out my hair long again, she'll get a tattoo sleeve (thus covering up an ancient tat with my real dad's name on. They've been divorced for years at this point and my mum remarried a few years ago, but she's been too preoccupied to get a coverup). Considering I've kept my hair short for a year now, growing it out will not be fun. 🙃
Been trying to organise an archive visit with a local library for nearly a month now, and I feel like I'm being sent around in circles with bureaucratic nonsense. orz
I find it cheeky how some Vocaloid fans complain about Project Sekai and how it's become the latest gateway to Vocaloid for "cringey" newbie fans, never mind that Vocaloid in general used to have a reputation of being a peak cringe fandom back in the late 2000s and early 2010s. I don't play ProSeka because I don't play mobile games, but I'm glad it's causing the Vocaloid fandom to go through something of a Renaissance period. It means the '"Vocaloid is dead!" corner can shut up for five minutes lol.

I am never upset when I see people say “I tried ProSeka and didn’t like it”, but it does upset me when I see people say “I hate proseka because of what it means for VOCALOID”

I agree with everything said thus far. Professionally commissioning community artists and musicians, especially. The game itself is absolutely oozing with love and respect for the community that created the scene before the characters themselves. I will never understand the complaint of ProSeka feeling like a corporatized angle— I feel like you’d have to not have read any of the dialogue to feel that way. Compared to previous Project ◯◯ games, it’s night and day. DIVA and Mirai are games “about Miku”, where the Crypton characters kind of just exist as mascots in a toy box, and there’s nothing wrong with that, but Project Sekai is a game about people, producers, and fans. Before the game launched, I thought the OCs would be samey bushiroad drivel, but they’re so far from it. Each character is written with so much respect, the different “sides” of the vocaloid characters are well explored if you’re a Crypton character fan, and the “toybox” features are still there with dressup and tons of interaction available with your favorite characters in area dialogues. Even in the promotional livestreams/update summaries for the game, the developers and voice actors are genuinely excited about what they’re talking about— you can just tell. It’s so sincere.

I’ve seen a lot of “vocaloid is dead” conversation lately. I feel like that outlook ties all of these things together. Vocaloid is so far from dead. Not even the beginner creative spirit is dead. I just don’t understand that viewpoint at all. If anything is dead, it might be 2000’s/early 2010’s web culture, but the vocal synth community still retains a lot of that.

Somewhere, there’s an alternate universe where ProSeka isn’t a gacha game and it is widely praised and accepted. I think the attitude toward gacha in English speaking communities is much worse than in the Japanese speaking community. It never bothered me because I never spent money on it. But I can understand how it would bother others.

@pico I guess some people would be warmer to ProSeka if it received a console or PC port that removed the gacha elements? (It would certainly give me an excuse to pick it up and look deeper into how it's been changing the community). Gacha games and similar microtransaction/in-game purchase stuff has always struck me as... shady, for the lack of a better word.

One example of a gacha-type game doing this is VOEZ - when it was ported to the Switch, pretty much all of the gacha elements were removed, including the need to unlock songs, so the entire OST was playable from the start. VOEZ's fandom actually considers the Switch port to be the definite version of the game because it removed the annoyances of the original mobile version.

@Blue Of Mind I would absolutely love that. And, honestly, it probably isn’t completely out of the realm of possibility for ProSeka. The game is doing super well and moving at a crazy pace. Not to mention that the fact that the game runs on Unity would make cross platform a bit easier.

Bushiroad briefly experimented with this by putting Bang Dream on the Switch store for a limited time. The Project Sekai team is separate from the people that work on Bang Dream, but it bodes well for the potential. We’ll have to see!
I'll admit it now, the first time I heard Kevin's name, I immediately thought of Kevin the sea cucumber from SpongeBob lol.

Since he got announced, I feel weird seeing one of my cousins' name here (though it isn't spelt the usual way so it's not 100% but still lol)
