  • It always makes me happy when people come to me for advice related to vocal synths. It’s nice that people think I’m a good person to ask, because it must mean I really seem to know what I’m doing! That, and I just like sharing my knowledge/giving my input on things!
Hm... can't decide if I want to enter the Solaris contest; on one hand, it could be good exposure for me as an artist, but on the other hand, I don't need svs since I already have it.

Honest opinion is not to do anything "for exposure" since it doesn't tend to be that benefitial to the person working for free. I think the Solaris project is too small to get much gains from in terms of publicity and it probably wouldn't be worth it to take the prize from someone who needs it. When I did an entry for the Tsuina-chan Synth V outfit design contest, I got some likes (I dunno, let's say 20) but I don't think it brought in followers (not that I entered to gain followers, I just like Tsuina). The team members seem to retweet Solaris fan art anyway before the contest came about so if you decide to draw her it could technically be when the contest is over. I dunno, this is just what I think about it.

I say go for it if you’d like! If you think you’d have fun with it, do it, and if you win, you can always sell the prize or ask for it to be given to the runner-up or something.
One day, I will own every single paid vocal synth and obtain every UTAU to ever exist and achieve ultimate power.
There are so many different Vsynth engines these days it's getting hard to keep up with! I swear I find out about a new engine nearly every week!!:clara_ani_lili:

If they do I feel like it would be interesting. I wonder if they are hesitant with ai because a lot of their singers are celebrities and they don't want a kafu situation where it sounds too much like the provider.

My tumblr tag system for vocal synth stuff is so messy as theres so many (minus the character names which should be obvious sjvsjvs)

I think this is a sign that there are too many

On an unrelated note, something I realized I really like about Tei and Teto is that they handle dramatic tuning really well--if I wanna go crazy with the pitchbends, I can!! >:) (As soon as I find a song that allows it ahdkhjjkfh)
I really want to know how you people who primarily use Vocaloid tune so well in there. I'd really love to use my beloved vocas more often but it drives me crazy that they tend to sound very flat regardless what I do with them... any seasoned users want to share some wisdom?

A favorite technique of mine is strategic note bending in an almost wave-like shape. You have to use it with caution; some VBs don't react well to note bending, and done incorrectly it just sounds choppy. But when it's done well, it adds an extra oomph that pitch bending doesn't always achieve.

Also, don't be afraid to use reverse-scoops (I'm sure they have a technical name, but... y'know). They're not as universally safe as regular scoops, but they can liven up the voice a lot.

For my tuning I tend to just use PIT and then add other bits later! Such as Exciter, Breathiness (V5 BRE is incredible for end breaths), and in some cases dynamics. In the case of Mayu, Exciter can liven her up SO much in my experience, and can do the same for other vocaloids (even to the point where Wil can be given strength!!). Most importantly though, don’t stress yourself and do what feels right~ as you keep learning new skills you’ll refine your style and it’ll sound great! :ia_ani_lili:

Thank you all very much for the advice! :mirai_ani_lili:
I'll be sure and practice with what you said~! I don't think I've run V5 as a trial on my newer Windows install as of yet, so I'll have to reinstall and play around with some of the parameters!! I have to remember I wasn't great at tuning UTAU from the get-go, so the same applies to Vocaloid!! I'll keep trying and learning as I go!!
On a much better note about moots than the other day, remember that collab I mentioned I was doing with an artist? I sent them a snippet of what I've done of the PV and they liked it a lot! Makes me feel quite good about it since it's actually my first time making a PV!
Even though they played the wrong version of Ungray Days at Miku Expo, I'm still glad they at least played it! It's one of my new favorites, and the actual Rin version is super good!!
So... did the Rin version of Ungray Days not play at the other Miku Expo showings? I could have sworn they played the correct one during the one I was watching last night which was the first one.

Yeah, it's difficult to tell. I'm almost half-tempted to see if I can replicate it myself... this live version sounds more Miku, but I'm still not sold because I feel like I can still hear the "quirks" of Rin's voicebank in there? It's really weird to me.

I have been sold... That might actually be Miku. Big oof

Yeah, I think I'm sold, too. Disappointed they didn't play the Rin version, but at least it was a new song to add to my playlist?? I wonder how they'll handle this... :len_lili:
I'm almost done with my commission! I'm looking forward to finishing so I can get back to some other projects and have a new illustration to share with everyone!
Spoiler 'cuz I know not everyone wants to hear about the bs between me and yet another not so great mutual. :ring_ani_lili:
Hmm... why do I keep ending up with backstabbing mutuals? Don't get too attached to your "moots" or online friends. You never know who's going to stab in you in the back and insult you to your peers. This time I have some so-called "moot" who's angry that I left their server and didn't want to mod there anymore due to already being busy with other projects and three other servers, plus this forum (I never asked nor applied to be a mod on this moot's server; they just modded me one day, btw). Now they've gone and insulted me and are sending their friends to ask the people I work with WHY I left because they claim I blocked and unfriended them (I have DMs on Discord turned off for most servers because I'm generally uncomfortable with DMs from people outside VVN, and I also never friended them to begin with). Luckily, the people I work with are very credible and responsible people and are working with me to resolve what was really misunderstanding blown out of proportion. The server was overrun with some really gross and creepy people, and I was always the only mod aside from one other who actually tended to the server or did anything; I was sick of it and I wasn't that active anyways so why does it matter if I'm there or not...? Bear in mind, I've been very kind towards this moot; I've rendered Vocaloids for them, I helped them setup and mod their server, etc.. and this is how they treat me when I decided to leave....? I'd already made it very clear to them that I don't like DMs and they already knew I was away for health reasons.
Why do I end up with all the nasties??? Just when I was starting to feel pretty great, too. :(
