  • I was just thinking a few days ago, "I really feel like going to one of those online DJ things. I wish there'd be another one...." And then I remembered that there IS going to be a Digital Stars in May! Hope they livestream it!
I was just flipping through some samples recently to find the perfect percussion bit. When I noticed how happy I was feeling, I realized, "I need to do more of this sort of thing." (Rather than the unenjoyable stuff I'm so often doing.)

My life won't improve unless I do the unenjoyable stuff, though, so.... There's some balancing to be done, or something.
I was surprised to get a new update email from CFM recently for Miku Expo 2021 Online. Unfortunately, it's marked "backers only," so I feel like I should honor their wishes and not share the contents. Which is too bad, because the update just details some rather generous and stand-up policies related to supporters and merch.

Oh well. I hope you'll take my word for it, because it's too bad when decent acts stay in the dark.
Do you ever wake up feeling bad for no reason?

Well, if I'm honest, there probably is a reason. I was really tired yesterday evening and pushed to stay up late anyway, which meant that the book I was reading came across as more boring than it probably should have.

Then I had a weird dream about work. Followed by another one where, of all things, I tried smoking a cigar. Nothing wrong with smoking, if you want to, but as a nonsmoker I was curious about the cigar taste some people describe. I didn't really get much of a taste sensation, though. I did end up reflecting that, yes, in fact, this sort of thing could give you mouth cancer even if you don't really breathe it into your lungs, so I took one shallow drag on it and then got rid of it. I did somehow manage to burn my tongue just off the heat from the inhaled gases, though, and the pain from that stuck with me until shortly after I woke up and I reminded myself that it was a dream. I think that's the first time I've experienced pain while dreaming. It was sort of like burning yourself on coffee, except it was a spot just the size of the end of the cigar (which doesn't make absolute sense).

And now, for some reason, all this stuff is sort of still with me.

I think I just need a weekend. A really long weekend. I'll have to do something to blow out this blah/sad feeling.

I don't have that issue (or maybe i don't even know..), maybe because your tummy is empty?

But i always like to do is walking... take a nice long walk is (i believe) natural to human or biking if you prefer. walking is actually have very good effect to your health.
I mostly carry a camera with me but that's just me. You might take a music player with your favorite headphone.

I think that pain experienced from dreaming usually means you somehow hurt yourself in your sleep. I know I once dreamt my hand got hit by a car and I woke up to discover I had banged my hand on the dresser. It sounds kinda like you bite your tongue in your sleep.

but i can relate to this. if ive had insomnia i tend to hurt and feel sick the entire next day, and if i have a very vivid nightmare (i have very bad reoccurring ones) i spend the entire next day upset.
Today was an absolutely miserable day. Sorry, I don't really have anywhere else where I feel like I can say that out loud. But it seriously made my head foggy and made me feel physically ill all day.
So, the Kontakt epiphany I had before...ended up being sort of wrong. Or at least it didn't help me after all. orz

I really did see a huge improvement after batch resaving, but after I restarted my PC, it went back how it had been before. I think the speed boost I saw was purely because resaving had made Kontakt load all the files into memory, so when I opened the instruments afterward, of course they loaded a ton faster.

At this point, I think it might be my anti-virus software scanning stuff as I'm opening it. I could go and set exclusions to try to get around it...but at least ATM, I don't feel like screwing around with my AV. I'll put up with waiting for a minute while the libraries load.

Batch resaving does seem to really help some people, though, so hopefully that info's still useful to someone.

Meaning the search feature in the Database tab? What kinds of issues does it cause?

Oh, sorry, i didn't mean about search feature in database, i mean about batch Re-save. You probably know about "Content Missing" dialog box, it have "Resolve Automatically" function. Let's say i have instrument patches in my source folder that have generic name like "kick1.wav, snare1.wav" and i have very large sample library and the chance is are, i probably have multiple kick.wav on my hard-drive, it's possible if i use resolve automatically function less carefully, there is a high chance that kontakt might re-link the patches to the wrong kick.wav file, and once batch re-save is done it work. There is no way to undo it, so please be very very careful.

I usually use "Resolve Manually" method> Browse for folder and i always make sure i stay in the library that i try to batch re-save.

I see people do it and screw up big time, end up re-install the whole library like over 300GB, and if they use Traditional HDD, which is most people still use, it will getting slower if they not do consolidate their HDD. Then again, it take a tons of time like 4-10hrs depend on their HDD speed.

Oh, that makes sense. Yeah, I can see where that would be a problem. Thank you!
At the risk of sharing something that's common knowledge...
I have a tremendous gift for anyone here who uses Kontakt.

If your Kontakt instruments load slowly, running "batch resave" on the instrument may drastically improve its performance. Full details are in our Kontakt resource. I personally have had instruments that took over a minute to load come to load in seconds after batch resaving. It's a godsend. Seriously, if after this anyone here still has to wait for minutes for an instrument to load, I'm gonna cry.
I've had a really nice extended weekend. No one's been breathing down my neck; most importantly, I haven't had to feel like sh*t.

As was my dearest wish, I've spent the whole thing working on a music course. It's been great to let someone else pick what to study next. I've probably spent more time on it than was really intended, but I've also gotten to wring as much value out of it as I could, too. You couldn't call it anything but work, but it wasn't demoralizing, and every day let me achieve something worthwhile, too.
Hm, I wonder... Assuming I ever get to have one, how much would I have to pay for CFM to be willing to have Miku play my wedding reception? For the cost of moving the projection panels and other stuff, probably a lot more than I'll have, right?

This, for some reason, is what occurs to me while watching the emotional power and beauty of "Last Night, Good Night."

Probably best to save that for the last song of the evening, eh? Otherwise, I'm not sure what kind of message that sends....
So, I had some water stuck in my ear. There are a few ways to get it out, but nothing worked. So I picked out some synth tunes with heavier bass, turned up the volume a little, and went about other business. Gradually, it seems like the vibrations have been able to work the water out! :)

(At least, that's what I hope's happening. It seems like there was more water in there than I thought....)

I mean, if the sound of a horn can bring down a concrete wall, I figure the Cryptonloids and some heavy bass can restore my hearing, right?

Disclaimer: I said I turned up the volume a little. Don't listen to stuff too loud. It's surprisingly easy to damage your ears.
The other day, I mis-read "Miku Hatsune" as "Miss Hatsune," and for some reason it just struck me as rather odd/funny. I don't think I've seen anyone refer to her that way, at least not on English-language sites. Even with honorifics, I've only seen stuff like "Miku-san."

Though in anime/manga, the more formal way to refer to someone seems to be using their surname, so you'd get "Hatsune-san," which is basically something like "Miss Hatsune." Maybe some people in Japan choose to call her "Hatsune-san?"

Oh, that's good to know--is -sama used in conversation with actual people, @MagicalMiku? I'd read somewhere that it was kind of an old way of speaking and basically wasn't used outside of anime/manga...which I suppose Miku fits right into, so I'm just curious.

mm.. in general, you use -sama at customer level or very polite situation, for example you put your name in the waiting list of a restaurant because it is actually full: when a seats becomes available, then the restaurant staff will call you by using "last name"-sama. same will happen if you have an appointment with the bank, or an office for a job interview, or you receive a call from a customer service, they put you at highest level possible ^-^
in fact, in Japan customer is at same level of God. when you are in a temple and make a prayer, you use kami (God)-sama.
-san is used in a more intermediate way, and usually you refer to the person you're talking to with "last name-san" and not a direct "you". for family and close friends, you drop the -san and use the name instead, and sometimes put -chan, -kun, .. ^^
at school, you call your teacher -sensei, and at workplace, your boss -buchou, always surname first. you drop last name when you know better that person :len_smile_lili:
for Miku and any other characters, people are used to call them by name, name-san or name-chan (this only in the case you really really like that character). so again, in a TV program they'll talk about Miku by using "Hatsune Miku" at first, and then if there is an interview, for example with Crypton staff, they'll use Miku-san or just Miku :miku_winter_lili:
for example in this video, she sometimes use "Hatsune Miku", and sometimes Miku-chan, it really depends on the situation and the feeling:

Wow, that's really interesting! It adds a lot of detail to my previous understanding of honorifics. Thank you so much! :miku_ani_lili:
I felt a little down about an hour ago. While working on a new song attempt, I realized that the song didn't feel cohesive enough to me. I'd been trying to let it explore more variation in order to keep it interesting, but I'd let the verses differ melodically from one another too much for my liking. I felt a little bad for having let that happen.

But, before I let myself feel bad about that for too long, I reminded myself that being able to notice the problem, and then even further to understand why it was there, were both signs of growth. And then I sat down at my computer, found a few key parts that strayed too far, and tweaked them. Listening to it again, I think it's gotten much better; I need to adjust the timing of some of the lyrics/notes, but the general outline seems pretty good.

So the next time you feel bad about your work in whatever field, remember that being able to know something is wrong is itself a good sign! After that, experience and learning will help you diagnose/fix problems, or avoid them in the first place.
