  • whoa, just went to peek into my original song folder and realized i had some lyrics and midi from a song i attempted in 2017??? so like, probably first or second music attempt. i actually had full lyrics for it.

its uh, not good lol. only had a lyric melody and that was it. and it was very poorly timed.... fun to see after so long since i forgot tho idk if ill touch it, definitely not something i wanna work with lol
leaving my pc on to move my music folder because i was too tired to stay up an hour was a mistake as my room was SO hot last night.... i kept waking up but was still too tired to get up and shut down my pc in the middle of the night, after it was obviously done transferring lol. i still feel tired but also...not tired
decided to move my vocaloid/music folder to my secondary drive just for the sake of knowing its quite big now and um
    yeah its. quite big huh

holy that's massive!!!! is that just vocaloid alone or other synths too?

and i thought my utau folder was big from hoarding voicebanks :clara_ani_lili:

@Krin it does not include my UTAU voice folder (or my WIP banks), which is only 47gb in comparison (i dont use utau much but i do save zips for many banks)- but it includes.... install files for all the voicebanks/engines ive ever owned (vocaloid, synth v, etc), all of my covers dating back to 2016, and all of my original songs. which yeah does sound pretty... small in general. but i basically keep *every* vsq/vpr/ust i ever download just in case, since that stuff can get deleted over time! would rather have a huge archive of stuff tbh, mostly because i do have the space for it... even this being 300gb out of a 4tb, it kinda means nothing overall!

@morrysillusion wow that's impressive that you've kept all your old projects! and yeah I feel you on keeping all those usts/vsqs etc, recently its like so many important downloads have been taken down!!! Archiving seems like a good thing to do because of all that. Actually a few months ago I bought a small 1 TB external hard drive for the sole purpose of holding voicebanks, plugins, resamplers, basically one massive haven for anything UTAU related. I've been working on that again recently especially after seeing one of my fav voicebanks get discontinued out of nowhere... very glad I downloaded as many voicebanks of her as I could but it goes to show how important archiving is.
ive never shipped out packages to people in my life lol, so of course im frantically checking the tracking numbers and posts for people i sent out these physicals to.... seems theyve almost all arrived but waiting to make sure fukase made it. definitely dont want him getting lost in the mail...

God, I feel that! When I shipped out IA I was obsessively checking her tracking to make sure she arrived safe and sound, and as soon as she was marked as delivered I messaged her buyer to verify she'd made it and was in agreeable condition.

I got a message back two weeks later that said "Yea, thx". I still think about that sometimes.

YEAH exactly, like one person actually messaged me when they got it, but two others i only noticed because i checked their social medias. and the last one im waiting to see from is fukase and the person didnt seem to post much at all, so i hope they tell me or respond when i ask lol. would feel awful if it got lost so im just...tensely waiting
you know i really dont hear a lotta uses of Amy but i really do like her voice. i mean she gives me very strong Lola vibes tbh (Chris doesnt give me Leon vibes at all tho) but there is something...something about her pronunciation that is just a little weird to me and i dont know how to describe whats wrong lol. i think chris and amy both has very slight, hard to describe issues, that if they didnt exist theyd be very perfect banks. their tones are break, but theres something about how they were recorded that just doesnt sound right...
ive been getting into 3D modelling recently and just finished my first ever model (textured, rigged, etc!) been trying to get ideas of what to tackle next to keep practicing and realized i can....make my own v flower model now. ages ago i tried being into MMD and edited some MMD models to make my own flowers. but now i have to power to make it just how i want....
of course being able to get rid of some vocaloids i dont use now is making me think "oh you know i liked [loid] a lot maybe i should buy it now..." like goddammit, the cycle never ends

every so often i hear a decent original song using Oliver and like, i think his tone is great and i love it and it makes me wanna use him for originals bc theres really no engloid with that voice. but i also dont wanna be another Disturbing Oliver Original Song Maker so i think thats why i dont want to use him lol

I don't really hear English voicesynth songs very often, but it's totally okay if you don't want to make songs with certain common theme. Variety is good nonetheless!

Honestly, if that‘s the type of song you‘d want to write, I say go for it! The most important part is to have fun and enjoy the final product!

thank you guys for the positive encouragement. i guess as my status has a little personal experience i did not describe lol so its a bit too vague on why ive strayed from using oliver.

i wrote a pretty personal song years ago using Oliver and while i liked it, the sort of comments i got felt.... insensitive to the actual topic i was venting and i was feeling like it was just 'another creepy oliver song for oliver fans to flock to' and not 'a very personal topic to bring awareness'. the issue is mainly feeling like having the vocaloid name "oliver" slapped on it will only lead to those kinds of fans.... this is, whollly just one expirience that has since made me feel that way. but ive considered trying to work past this by using him again, maybe trying to combat some of the specific attention of oliver fans by just not...naming the vocaloid in the song, perhaps.

of course theres a whole other topic to be had about venting through art and the way people interpret it. in the sense that i can in no way control it. but i was mostly put off by (at the time) swarming oliver fans only wanting weird oliver songs due to other popular artists doing the same. i didnt want my songs to be grouped with that i think
i remember when synth v initially got announced and i wasnt super into the engine noise (it wasnt worse than cevio though). i never liked moresampler because i didnt like how much it made voices "fuzzy" even if it worked well with some. but hey, theres been some major improvements in synth v since.... some banks sound better than others tbh, but it doesnt sound real good now. so i question why cevio still sounds Like That

Moresampler is personally my go-to resampler but I def agree on SV, I like it like most ppl do but I wish it was more consistent with it's results, the way SV vbs react and how fuzzy they get is all over the place and I suspects the samples aren't the only cauze. The G1 web editor Saki is actually clearer than the current version of her. Again I like SV but I kinda feel like the resampler works better in utau.

I'm quite certain that SynthV has aliasing issues, which can get better or worse depending upon internal sample rate and export sample rate settings. But such things shouldn't matter if proper anti-aliasing measures were implemented. Regardless, that wouldn't fix the overall noise issue, but it would get rid of some of the unpleasant tones, especially at higher pitches.

there is sooo much i could go on and on about with the way maghni-ai is looking rn so i wont keep adding to the main thread lol.... in the end i would love to see it succeed in some form, even if it has like 10% of the expected features tbh lol. i wouldnt wish for failure but i cant say i expect much from its current development
god this might be unpopular but as much as i love the art and general sound of kairiki bear's music i just...barely listen to him anymore bc his style is just so same-y. kinda makes me sad bc i have no interest in the songs :/ theyre definitely good but they all just sound way too similar for me to want to listen to new ones....

Literally thought the same thing after hearing their newest song. It's like, the same songs just a different melody. They're not terrible but tbh I kinda got sick of them bcos of the fact they're all the same. There are only two songs I can say I really like / are memorable imo
Kafu is such a conflict because every time i hear an original song with her im like "yeah, this sounds good" because for the most part the voicebank does sound good, but its that quality and tone that make me suffer. its like every time i am almost tempted to consider buying her because its *almost* what i want.... but the quality issues and the chipmunk voice issues are enough that its just not worth supporting and dropping $200 on. i dont use vocaloid things enough to warrant it either, so ill sit from afar and hope users who get her consider making her sound deeper/more in line with what she couldve been....
on positive note, i keep thinking about vocaloid fan fiction..... i have always been big into fan fic writing tbh, but i have never read vocaloid fics. its mostly because im so damn picky. and for something like vocaloid, i think i always had trouble on how to envision it? like are they normal people in a normal world? are they android in the real world? do we have some fleshed out "living in the computer" cyberspace kinda world? what is it??? and i think my lack of opinion on what i want to see has made me never read or write vocaloid fan fiction..... but ive always had some vague ideas id love to write so many....someday soon i will

Whenever I see Vocaloid story stuff I always feel like they're actors playing a role in a production. Even in stuff like Project Sekai.
slightly more personal note on the topic of my last status (not rly look for discussion just venting)

it just kinda Sucks growing up online in the age i did, and being very quickly exposed to the bad behavior of fandoms centered around teen/child characters. i am unsurprisingly one of the many early internet kids who fell into the wrong crowd online- weird creepy adults whom i befriended and thought was totally normal and thus getting exposed to things i should have never seen- additionally creating and engaging in content i never should've gotten close to as young as 8 years old. (and really, lets not normalize seeing "weird stuff" (gorey, sexual things) online, its terrible for a developing child to be exposed to as 'common' as it is). i 100% grew up liking anime in the same weird way many of these creepy adults did because i thought it was normal- hell even some of the most popular ships i was introduced to in anime were adult/minor relations and it took me until the end of high school to realize that it was bad. if i wasnt aware of how others would look at such behavior and additionally came to realize the trauma i endured thanks to others that made me think that way, i may have grown into a very different person. there was an awareness to my actions because i knew it was "wrong" and "strange" but i was made to think it was good or normal to be "weird" like that.

in the end my extreme aversion for the every growing Teen Idol obsession many adults have in this neck of the woods is no doubt thanks to my many prior traumas that have me recognizing such people are doing harm a lot of the time. its a shame because i basically have come to avoid vocaloid and anime circles more and more because i know ill just stumble across gross behavior that triggers me :/ at this point i enjoy a very select amount of vocaloid characters and just live in my own little bubble with them (namely flower and gachapoid being those characters for me). and spaces like this forum that are pretty much devoid of these fandom behaviors are good too. but every time a new character gets announced and i see its another cute teen girl im just like... alright, not interested... because im both bored of the trends and tired of the fans that constitute these companies feeding into this trend time and time again.
this could lead to unpopular opinion-like discussion but this also covers some potentially uncomfortable subjects so im just rambling here dont mind me <3

as much as i am still "into" vocaloid to some extent i think as time goes on i really notice how much i dont vibe with a lot of the "character" voices of right now and it all comes down to the huge want for more and more young anime girl characters. i wouldnt say i am the biggest anime nerd out there (i have enjoyed anime but have never leaned on any animes with cutesy/moe vibes) but i think i drift away from anime and anime circles because so much get immense attention is that- young cute anime girls. obviously "anime" as a whole is massive enough that yes, its not "just" cute teens, i recognize that. but when it comes down to spaces like Vocaloid, which i want so much to keep enjoying, it really does end up just being that.

its not that i feel theres no "reason" things have turned this way, its clearly whats wanted and what makes money. people who like vocaloid/similar things want idols basically...and when theyre virtual its likely the cute teen girls will catch all the attention for those fans more- idol culture is very centered around youth and looking cute. it makes sense for money but boy it doesn't mean i find it any less weird the more i see it. i think its quite clear there is a problem when fans of virtual idols obsess over teen aniem girls.... and then further pass around sexualized content of said character. even worse is when the companies owning said character promote such content. it IS weird. its fucking gross. and its absolutely why i dont label myself under such fandom and additionally avoid them to no end. i dont want to be around weirdos who only care about fictional idols when theyre young girls and im tired of a society that feed said culture by continuing to churn out teenage girl characters for every virtual idol concept they need.

this isnt really a formal "i want to see more male characters/mature female characters/etc" post, i just need to vent the issue in my head. i like vocal synths but yes i really dont give a single shit about every new 15 year old cute girl design that pops up. i am not surprised by any means, just continually bored and uninterested... soft voices, baby faces, underage- its the constant. its a surprise im even here at all tbh, because i know this is unlikely to ever change lol. in the end i majorly love engloids because often times american design trends dont fall into these often more japanese design trends, but it seems pretty clear this takes off in japan because of the Cute Girls. its sadly a neverending loop of doing what makes money, thus contributing to this awful culture of adult fans drooling over teens.

    @sketchesofpayne "They will sexualize anything."
Yeah and i really wish it wasn't that way sjvshvsj

I have seen a lot of very sexual comments about/art of underage characters from media i like and i wish i could erase that from my brain

And people wonder how teenagers and young kids get hypersexual so quickly

I mean, yeah, i like vocal synth characters, and some of them are my all time favorite characters (like Yanhe and Nana) but....yeah, this community is scary hsigsuvs

@sketchesofpayne i agree that to some extent "everything" is sexualized tho the core difference is sitting here knowing there is a completely different vibe with teenage/underage girls being sexualized above all in the context of anime/vocaloid. and while one could say some fans do it with little thought, it doesnt take away the creep fact and as a mature adult person those fans need to think for themselves and realize, hey- that's creepy! and shouldnt be shocked when other people not within such a culture find it weird.
the further issue is i DO think many of these people 100% know what theyre doing, bc rabid idol fans defend themselves to their graves about how much they want to obsess over teen anime girls. i get what youre saying, all in all its been normalized but it doesnt take away the responsibility of those who consume said media to recognize when they end up being a creep about it and i dont think it makes sense to give benefit of the doubt and assume everyone is just innocently consuming the content without realizing their attraction to teens.

I really wish that the more perverse ways in which vocal synths are sometimes handled wasn't something I had to deal with. (I actually wrote a roughly 3-page short story that, among other things, touches on this...depending on your interpretation.) Not only does it make us as a fandom look really bad, but, more importantly, I can't help but feel bad for the synths when I imagine how they would feel if they could know what is sometimes being done with them.
i forget i made this account in 2018 but it was so i could ask about an issue i had in synth v and then i just. never used the forum after that until just recently lol

its a shame cuz it shows that aside from a forum space like this, there really is no community space to get help on technical issues, and this place is already so light with activity in comparison to most forums! im glad this place exists. but man the vocal synth stuff is very contained when it comes to the tech end of things, and trying to seek out communities more focus on the tech
not me looking for midis of my favorite old emo bands at midnight so i can sloppily start more english vocaloids covers ill certainly forget about by the morning
