  • V5 single handedly popularized Flower to this extent and it's interesting how that goes unacknowledged

I think most people aren't even clued-in to the production side of things enough to even perceive it. I myself only marginally know that new features in V5 have... made Flower easier to use? Uh... brought out new potential in her? ...something like that? I don't know. I don't use Flower and I use Piapro Studio, not Vocaloid 5.

I feel that Flower took a while to catch on with producers because she's such an unusual VB.

How do voicebanks optimized for openUTAU handle being in regular UTAU? I respect the work that goes into openUTAU but I already have my workflow in regular UTAU that works for me.

I was wondering this over the oto part ; as in, if you oto a bank within openutau, would it work the same or need some slight fixing to fit to the original program ?

Im assuming it would mostly be the same. Most of the adjustments needed to make banks work in openutau just concern making them work with the phonemizer system

discovered the most bizzarly done english utau vb from 2012 this is gonna be fun

ah the old times when no one had any idea how to utau english hghiuy thats where all the interesting stuff lays
pitting openUTAU against UTAU is so funny to me, imagine pitting someone's free time, for-fun projects against one another, this sense of "one engine having to be the winner" needs to stop hgfhgf hard work went into both let's celebrate that instead of pitting them

the utau community is so full of people simply making things on their free time because they want to (look at all thre resamplers and reclists constructed by users) its a shame there are people who cannot view openutau as the same kind of labor of love! ive been more and more interested in trying it now after its gotten more updates and its great people are out there making an alternative to use for those who may find it easier/more useful to their needs

I'm really excited to see openUTAU develop more since there's a lot of really nice quality of life features already (I haven't used it too much myself since it's still... a little bit confusing for me who is used to UTAU haha but I do wanna give it a real good try later on!), but yeah people constantly belittling the original UTAU program for it is really so strange to me... like openUTAU is more or less just an extension of it. People got way too comfortable with UTAU existing and seem to have forgotten that it was literally created by one person and by no means is that one person required to or should be expected to keep active development on it 10+ years later... it's okay to not like using it since it's old and certainly feels as such, but man some people are so entitled.

And as for openUTAU itself, honestly it works fantastically for the most part and there's a lot of really surprising updates I didn't even know I wanted to see from it already. I just think it's so exciting, there's really no need for anyone to bash it or try to look for something negative. In the end it's all UTAU.
Dunno whether I'm gonna get chewed out for saying this, but I'm not framing this as objective truth, it's my subjective feelings on the matter.

I wish Volor wouldn't recruit regular people from the fandom to demo Eleanor AI, I feel like it's harder for the discussion around Eleanor AI to happen organically when it's people who have long history with the fandom and who are friends with ton of people in the fandom, demo-ing her, it's inherently gonna make criticizing harder and people she's targeted towards are gonna feel this sense of loyalty because "their friend/""one of us"" was in on it". If I'm being frank, it feels like manipulative tactic on Volor's part but obviously that's just how it comes across to me.

Spoilering because it's completely negative and I worry I may have written too much about a particular topic orz... I may delete this later because of the second paragraph, but I do want at least other people to know? Because god I still can't believe it.

I agree too, actually... I didn't really have a problem initially - Eleanor's never been a favorite of mine and her AI hasn't changed my opinion of her but I like hearing new demos and such nonetheless because I just find new things exciting - she's fine, just not a voice I want to use myself and that is perfectly okay. I was content just following things as they came out.

But I also have reason to believe that Volor hasn't been the most professional behind the scenes - I was incredulous to hear that someone literally last week emailed them and got Eleanor early to make a demo in like two days. Like... what. I'm not gonna out who this person was, it's not fair to them and they were excited to be able to do it, but it really made me raise my eyebrows. It's just like... you're gonna hand her out to anyone who emails you, just like that? Isn't she supposed to be released literally this month? Why are they letting new people sign on to do demos with less than two weeks of the month remaining??? (I really don't wanna bring up that one controversial producer, but... knowing that they did this leaves no doubt in my mind how that ended up happening too orz)

Then there's the preorder thing you mentioned too. I have a friend who does like Eleanor a lot and even she didn't end up preordering her AI when Volor was like "she might sound different than her current bank." It's just a lot of blind trust to put in a company, and while Eleanor still sounds nice it's just a really weird thing to do. It's all such a mess.

This criticism of mine is gonna exclusively fall on Volor as it's their responsibility, not the person in question, but it feels rather unfair towards people who pre-ordered her, if she's truly being handed out like that.

Yeah, even though I’m happy for all the people who were able to tune demos barring the producer who shall not be named, I can’t help but feel like it’s kind of a cop out? Like, they’re expecting people to buy her because they pandered towards the fandoms and person x who knows person y and is friends with person z is going to be tuning it so people feel like they have to buy it because “omg my friend tuned a demo for this voicebank!”
It also makes people like me feel awkward when critiquing or stating issues we have with the demo because it’s not someone like Hachioji-P or Deco*27 where they’re a professional and so the criticism won’t feel more direct… it’s just an average joe like the rest of us who might stumble upon what we have to say. 💦
I hope it's ok to have this discussion here 🤷‍♀️ just been on my mind

I've just been thinking of dehumanization of vps in the vocal synth circles, especially the western ones ( so whenever the topic of Fukase's license and others comes up ), I kinda feel like dissociation has to play a role in said outrage, especially when said vps are really only known as the voice providers of vocal synths overseas and not like the celebrities that they are, with their own brands, over in Japan, perhaps there would be a deeper understanding of the license if western, big name vp, decided to be stricter about it, maybe the dissconnet wouldn't be as big.

There is a certain level of entitlement the buyer has when they purchase said voicebank/s but I also feel like the agency of the voice provider gets left out of the discussion too, and that needs adressing imo.

Honestly? I wanna be cautious when approaching these kinds of topics, but... yeah. "Entitlement" doesn't even begin to cover some of the behaviors I've seen, especially recently. I don't really know what else to say other than that because you've covered just about everything that needed to be said.

    You're not wrong.

At the same time, my attitude is: If you are worried about how people might use your voice and image, then don't sign onto a project creating software that will allow people to use your voice and image.

(In my opinion) It's really a mistake to use musicians, celebrities, singers, minors, or whatever to provide the voice data for your vocal synth library. It seems to only work out well with voice actors. They are already accustomed to the dynamic of the characters they voice being their own entity. Even if they're associated with the character, the character is not them and they are not the character. That's business as usual for a voice actor.

People definitely need to respect that when you buy a product, the license and TOS is part of that package deal. If you hate a product's license, then you need to spend your money or time elsewhere. This is especially prevalent super prevalent in the internet age where people are continually using products that bank on their licenses and terms of service agreements alone to make money. Purchasing a product shouldn't entitle you to ignore its terms, because you *paid* for those terms.
I had to blow some steam but I'm glad it was short lived :gackpo_lili:

The Ne/utrin/oP thing was really upsetting on top of other things but now that it's been taken care of I can look back at them and laugh hgff

    Speaking of laughing...

When it comes to vocal synth stuff I only visit this site, and mostly for news of up-and-coming voicebanks and synth technologies. As a result, I had never before heard of this Romanian fellow.

Regardless, something came over me and I decided to peek at his Twitter account that had been posted here, and...

...well, my reaction was quite different than probably everyone else on VocaVerse.

At first I chuckled at his tweets. Then I discovered that he had two Twitter accounts where he likes and retweets his own tweets, and I chuckled harder. Then I found a tweet that was the most batshit insane thing I’ve read in some time, and I laughed out loud. Not typing LOL on the internet laugh-out-loud, but the literal laugh-out-loud.

Immediately afterward I began to feel guilty about laughing at someone who clearly has issues. However, that feeling soon passed when I discovered that he has not two but three Twitter accounts where he likes and retweets his own tweets, and I returned to chuckling.

My less-than-civil reaction notwithstanding, I gotta wonder what Volor were smoking (or eating) when they approached this fellow. Not very professional!

    Two things!

I've landed the job! it's incredebly lucky that I've managed to land a full time job under all the circumstances! I'm very grateful for the opportunity!

2nd I'm considering going on hiatus as I'm feeling quite uncomfortable here and depending on the circumstances I might decide that I need to take a step back, I haven't decided on it yet but rest assured that if I were to do so, it wouldn't halt the Cul collab and participants wouldn't lose contact with me! Working on all the necessary behind the scenes stuff as we speak! But that's all in the air!
