  • I'm gonna admit, Maki's English talk bank is making me SERIOUSLY consider getting CeVIO AI. On the one hand, it's wasteful to buy an entire engine for one single voicebank, with no guarantee you'll like anything else that's put out for it.

On the other hand... that clarity... that sweet accent... Maki... 🥺
Me: "Okay, no more messing around! I've got some anniversary covers to finish!"

    YouTube: "Misora Hibari's Arekara has an official off-vocal : ) "

Me, already downloading it: "SACHIKO I'M COMIN' FOR YA BABY"
So, uh, have y'all heard of Spitfire LABS? It's several GB of free instrument plugins, compatible with all DAWs, and with Kontakt quality. I went crazy and downloaded them all and I'm just... I'm in love.

ive been using labs for a long while now (well, since it was released) and have used it in a majority of my recent music since! i think i recall someone here asking for vsts and i reccomended it because im shocked more people dont know it. seriously, if someone reading this hasnt used it, you gotta. theyre way too good, for free, to not. the only issue i have had is there are times where the spitfire audio thing messed up the vsts and i had to install them all again and it was not a fun process. they gotta fix it. but its pretty much the only library of VSTs i used at this point tbh, it has such a huge range of sounds.

i even got the BBC Symphony VST from them for FREE because they had a thing going on if you just answered a survey, you could possibly get it free, and i did! so they have some good deals.
Next month is the three-year anniversary of my first published, completed cover, so I'm thinking about making two covers in celebration: a remake of that first cover (in which I tried making Oliver sing in Japanese when I still didn't know how to edit phonemes... yes, it's bad), as well as a full version of the first song I ever made in Vocaloid, sitting in a coffee shop with my hilariously weak laptop and my brand new V4 trial.

(I recorded this in the parking lot of said coffee shop on my phone because the shop closed, I got kicked out, and I didn't know how to get screen recording software. Ah, what an artifact...)

I think it'd be fun to publish the above video... and then have it transition into a full cover of the song (which isn't very long and just repeats the above section again), with Miku singing the main part and the other five Cryptonloids providing the backups and harmonies. (I'm a slut for harmonies, so figuring out a way to make a soprano, a mezzo-soprano, an alto, a countertenor, and a baritone sing what was originally made for an all-male quartet is gonna be so much fun.)

Being a fairly short song, it shouldn't take too long, so I'd like to finish it first and then work to remake my first YouTube cover. I lost the VSQx a few months after making it, and since Oliver sings all of the verses, in Japanese... that'll take a while to recreate. And to do, y'know, well.
A customer gave me a jar of jam today. I was printing labels for her homemade jam business and commented on some of the flavors, and she was like “I’ll go bring you a sample!” Alright! A little jam sample!

Nope. An entire jar. I don’t even like jam, but it’s officially my most prized possession.
Mmmmmmm... all the recent talk of originals keeps reminding me of the few originals I've made. I've only ever "finished" one, and it was just the instrumental, made up in an online sequencer because in 2017 I didn't know what a DAW was and that website was the first thing that came up when I googled "online music maker".

    It's here, if you're curious.

I have the tune for the lyrics still memorized, but I never finished writing the lyrics, as lyricism is where I struggle; I had wanted to use Oliver, but I quickly realized the planned melody was too high for Miku to sing comfortably, so I scrapped the whole project.

If I could craft a new main melody out of what I have, then I could try to figure out lyrics that fit with the theme of the original, then maybe, just maybe...

oh this for real sounds really nice, seriously. even the basic default sounds on that website have me hooked on the whole composition tbh. even if this never becomes more ill definitely keep an eye out if you do decide to do more in the realm of original songs!

What did I do to deserve y'all :kaito_lili:
Holy crap, I turn 24 one month from today. It does NOT feel like my birthday's approaching... such is the curse of adulthood I suppose?

Anyway, if anyone wants to shower me in gifts— :clara_ani_lili:
I think the reason I have trouble being impressed with AI banks is because I've been spoiled by Vocaloid AI and I keep subconsciously hoping Yamaha releases it commercially one day. Like, I know it's not gonna happen, and commercial AI voices are getting better even in this relatively short time span, but...

Like, just listen to this and tell me you wouldn't drop exuberant amounts of money on a synth with this much realism and beauty. (Assuming realism is something you value, of course; I enjoy both realistic and non-realistic voice types, but I feel many commercial AI banks are TRYING to be realistic and failing, and it just doesn't do anything for me.)

That's a synthesized voice??? God damn! I wish I could see the VSQ (or whatever format its in) for this song. I wonder if it was cleaned a bit by someone of if this is purely the AI doing its thing.

Yup yup! When I first saw it I didn't know much about this singer, so I thought the appeal was that it was an ultra-realistic hologram lip-synching to one of her old songs. Nope! Yamaha had a new song written for a singer who's been dead for thirty years, synthesized her vocals, and had her perform it from beyond the grave. The hologram's just the icing on the cake. You can sorta tell it's synthesized when she's speaking, but when she's singing? That's the closest to human a vocalsynth has ever been.

I'll always be sad for Vocaloid's wavering status, but when I remember it's lost its activity because Yamaha's focusing on making their software do this, I'm a lot less sad.

The way the crowd was emotional makes this type of technology amazing. I would get teary eyed as well if I could see someone like David Bowie live in hologram form singing new songs.
It's official: I'm getting my tax return and my stimulus in one fell swoop! Most of it is going to my car payment, buuuuuuut I know I wanna get Kaito's V1, and maybe a few more? Who, I'm not sure, but Kaito for sure.

I wanna take the plunge and get a Vsinger or 5, but with the three I want most getting V5 updates so soon, it wouldn't be worth it. I could round out my Medium5 collection, and that's the direction I'm leaning in... if I do that, I'm just a Maika away from fulfilling my "Really, Really Want" list, and Maika's pretty moderately priced.

Just can't... overdo it. Got car payments to make.
It's official: I have a Baidu account and can log into it through the Netdisk Client. Which means I can download literally anything off of Baidu now, without having to go through third-party servers. And I didn't have to buy a Chinese phone number or use any information other than my own.

Tianyi smiles upon me. I am So Happy :kaito_lili:
Hmm. While grabbing Baidu downloads for Redditors last night, I remembered that I managed to get the off-vocal for my favorite Mandarin vocalsynth song... and I think Minus would sound lovely in it~
The power has gone to my head. Ten days ago I posted a few links to r/BaiduDownloader and got no response, and quickly realized NO ONE was getting any responses, which is what kickstarted my dive into shady corners of the internet for methods as of yet undiscovered by most. And now that I've figured out how to get files off of Baidu, big and small?

I'm gonna do what the creator of the subreddit isn't: help people.
I'm not sure if it was just an engine update thing or if they updated Genbu himself (I think it's just the engine because he's still on Version 100 for me), but he's gotten a lot more solid on Studio since launch! Still, I wish his lows didn't give out so easily... G1 Genbu would be PERFECT for a Sweet's Beast cover, but I can't see using his Pro for the same song.

Not to say I'm not gonna try anyway, because holy crap, if I could pull it off, he would KILL that song.
