Hah! You fool! By only speaking Slovak, I'll be forced to adapt, and that'll help me learn faster! I win, no matter what~

You forget, love, I have what's damn-near universally considered the most low-brow accent in the English language. I sound fancy when I speak in French and Japanese and cute when I tentatively try Slovak, but when I start speaking it full-force? You'll be embarrassed to be near me~

Conflict conflict conflict conflict conflict conflict conflict~

I'm in Immediate VB Need Overload. There's three VBs I need RIGHT NOW RIGHT NOW RIGHT NOW. I've already decided on Fukase next and then Miku Chinese, but lately Patuk and I have been discussing Akari, and the Rikka/Akari discussions have fueled me to seek out more content, and Patuk is using her now and has confirmed she's very pleasant to use, and... hhhhhhhhhhhh

I'm sticking to my guns on Fukase, but no matter who I buy after that, it'll be a month from now before I can get the third, because I can't afford two VBs in one paycheck. But I don't wanna WAIT a month. I want all three ASAP.

That awkward moment when you're going on a tangent about vocalsynths to the new guy at work... and he one-ups your Vocaloid knowledge, in spite of not knowing much about vocalsynths himself.

So, uh, I just tonight learned about Yameii, a private Vocaloid used by a rapper. I already love her.

Ah, another cover going up tomorrow! I'm so excited... it was my absolute favorite as a young teenager, but it never broke 1,000 views combined on both its Nico and YouTube uploads. I hope I can bring it some justice and attention!
Why? Why do I keep wanting to cover songs with extensive talking sections? It's one thing to do it in SynthV, but Vocaloid...

Anyway, I have to choose three different Vocaloids for speaking parts alongside this Fukase cover I'm wanting to do. One is a deep-toned male vocal (played by Gakupo in the OG), which leaves me with Genbu (risky, but I'm willing to chance it), Kaito (though can his V3 go that low? It'd be possible with his V1, but I still don't have my hands on it), or VY2 (which just feels like a Very Bland Choice). The translation references the character being a man, but it's more like "Phantom", so I guess there's no reason I couldn't use, say, Luka~

The other two... I'm thinking Miku Solid or Light for Gumi's part, and Rikka's getting Miku's part solely because Miku's character's name is Rikka. It'd be a crime not to use her.
Hhhhhhhhh... which do I buy next, Miku Chinese or Fukase?
    • I owned Miku Chinese for a short time in like... early 2019, I think, but then gave her to a friend because I was like "Oh. I don't know any Mandarin, and I only know like two songs." The Haiyi Boom of 2020 changed that, of course, and I now work with Mandarin regularly; I remember Miku Chinese being fun to work with, and now that she's been updated and improved, I'd like to give her another shot. (And yes, I contacted the friend about getting her back. She never responded.)

    • Dammit, I'm ready to be over my grudge against Fukase, and what better way than by dropping $130 on him and trying to make sure that money doesn't go to waste? I've got a cover in mind for him already that'll incorporate other Vocaloids as well to ease me into using him. But at the same time... Fukase. I'm both eager and dreading it, but I know I just need to jump right in.
Payday's Friday. Who do I go for?

How about save up your money and just buy both? It might take a little bit longer but if you can do it that's what I would go for anyway.

I mean if you can't then just go for Miku Chinese because I'm biased and want to hear Miku in chinese

Mhhh, that’s a difficult choice😓😓. They’re really different voicebanks, so it depends on what you prefer working on really. However, as a rule of thumb, I’d say to get the one you think you’ll have the most fun and are most excited to play around with!
How do you make vocals more... I dunno, forward? Striking? Because my mixes always suffer from vocals that just blend into the instrumentals or sit on top of them, and I know it's extremely unpleasant to listen to. I'd at least like to make up for my lack of talent in tuning by a show of competency in mixing, heh.

I've no experience with using off-vocals, but if I had to guess parallel compression is probably a key ingredient. Kotelnikov from TDR is free and has a dry mix knob.

Another thing you could try is adding saturation to the entire mix (pre-compression). The "Mastering Warmer" present from Voxengo's free Tube Amp might do the trick, although I would recommend setting the oversampling to 8X and selecting the linear phase anti-aliasing filter. Tube Amp (or similar) might not be nice on tracks that already have boat loads of saturation, but there's only one way to find out: try!

Again, the above are only guesses.

I really wish I could help :( You're always really helpful whenever I asked for help with projects I did. If you just need someone to listen to your WIP and tell you what they think I'm always free.

@parallax_fifths I'm going to be perfectly honest: I didn't follow any of that. That said, I downloaded the recommended plugins and I'm gonna research what you've said! Thank you for always coming in with your technical knowledge of music. It's saved me plenty of times.

@Ronny777 I appreciate that! Thank you sincerely.
    Two things:

1.) New cover going up tomorrow! I'm... honestly shocked at how fast I got it done, but I'm happy!

2.) I had a dream that there was an episode of Naked and Afraid (I'd call it a guilty pleasure, but I don't feel particularly guilty about liking it) in which, while hunting for food, a partner misaimed their homemade spear and ended up fatally stabbing their partner. No legal charges were brought against them, but their PSR was lowered to 0.1. I've been thinking about that a lot since I woke up.
I need to use my Japanese V2s more. I adore the way Rin Act1/2 says Ra ("Lyeha" is the best way I can describe it) and how Luka adds a random N into "Watashi" ("Zenzai wantashi" YES BABY, GO OFF). I wanna learn more about the others' quirks!

Uh, ok, there are a lot of kanjis 😅, though, from what I got, it says something along the lines of the work on the CPU which might become excessive, so in order to lessen it you need to the render the tracks a few times before playing them again

Idk, it’s probably due to the fact it’s a program that wasn’t made with later Windows versions in mind, so it might get a bit too hard to handle for some sistems(?); try rendering the track(s) as it says and see if that works 🤞🏻.
Shouldn’t it be the case, I wouldn’t really know how to help rip😥

Ah, that's all it was? I just had to render it a few times and it was all fixed! I feel dumb now. 😅 Thank you!!
Our one-year anniversary is in just under a month, so this is a good time to call out Patuk:

I like calling her affectionate terms in Slovak. She thinks it's cute. And that's why she let me unknowingly call her a man for several months without correcting me.

...in her defense, I DID think she was a man for the first month or so after she joined VVN, so I guess it's only fair.

Chris is a freelancer, but he's developed a love for baking. Cyman tries encouraging him to go a step further: he could start a successful baking blog, or write a cookbook, or open a bakery! But Chris isn't exactly the most self-assured person, and anyway, where are they gonna get the money for a storefront? Anyway, he doesn't care about making money off of a hobby. He's more than happy just baking for Cyman.
While I typically pride myself on making my own VSQs/VPRs and such, it's always a nice treat when I find out that the author of one of my favorite songs actually published the VSQ in full, especially when the OG never broke 1,000 views and it's only been covered once. Time to breathe life into this bad boy!
