  • I wanna have an SVP prepared for Rikka, since she hits the market (and my computer) in under a month, but I can't quite decide on a cover... I have a few I'm tossing around, but:
    • Hajimete no Oto or VOC@LOID in Love: I just... don't know if she can sing optimally in higher ranges. I made the mistake of assuming Haiyi could handle high notes flawlessly when I first got her and that cover was kind of a mess as a result, so I don't wanna repeat that mistake.

    • Tsugai Kogarashi (duet with Benbu): It would show off her full range so well! But on the inverse of my issue with the first two, can she go as low as Meiko's vocals go in that song?

    • Though My Song Has No Form: The song's range is nice and neutral, and it's a beautiful song! I'm leaning more towards this one, but... I also kinda wanted to cover the Mandarin version with Haiyi... so my hesitation is purely petty on this one.

    • Suki Daisuki: Tanjiro covered it with Tei shortly after I decided I wanted to cover it with Rikka (which was months ago, but nevertheless...), and once Tanjiro's covered a song, I'm not allowed to touch it, lest I become a laughingstock and that cover becomes my least successful cover of all time. Learned that the hard way with Cantarella. And anyway, its range is similar to VOC@LOID in Love, so whether she can sing that well in those notes...
    Hmm... any other ideas?
I am sad. My brain is screaming at me to go buy something to cheer myself up.

I know my retail therapy addiction is, in fact, an addiction, because NOT giving in and buying something makes my chest hurt and makes me feel short of breath. My throat's getting dry and I feel a little dizzy.

I'll chug some Dr. Pepper and see if that helps. Maybe play around with Miku Light a bit more.

Add items to wish lists or watch lists but don't buy them. I do that. I've made myself only buy things after they've been on a list for weeks or months and I haven't found anything that I want more. Instead of impulse-buying things I see, they queue up. It's a very different decision when you are looking at a list of many things you want and have to decide which one you value the most. For instance, I'll add Playstation games to a wishlist for a few months. Then one day I'll sit down and look at the list of twenty or so games and think to myself, "Which one am I actually going to play anytime soon." I used to buy every game that looked good and I ended up with a couple dozen games still in the shrink wrap.

So make the selection and curation process your therapy instead of the actual buying part of it. You can also learn to enjoy the other side of it. For every big purchase you make, sell some other item. I bought an expensive Miku figure recently but sold some old Magic the Gathering cards to help cover the cost.

Totally agree with the wish/watch list idea. I go window shopping all the time on eBay, and I always end up watching stuff I think I like at first, but in the end I never buy it, so then I just get annoyed by its presence on the list and I delete it.

It's not good, per say, but for how utterly different V1 is, I don't think it's particularly awful either.

On the topic of Kiyoteru... I’ve been having some intense writer’s guilt lately over my portrayal of him. I’m aware of his (rather extensive) lore and his canon portrayal and personality and such... and in this fic I’m working on, I kinda spit in the face of all of that and do my own thing. I offered a little bit of an explanation for where he’s at in the prequel to this fic (he’s an android here rather than human, he specifically tutors child Vocaloids, and he split with Ice Mountain on amiable terms when they were given the opportunity to chase true stardom because he preferred staying behind and being present for his students, who wouldn’t benefit from co-schooling with humans; they’re still in contact and close friends and he’s their biggest supporter). I don’t suppose that explains why, rather than “friendly shy guy who gets a little more bold when he’s at the mic,” he’s full-on “friendly shy guy with a borderline-split personality that’s insanely outgoing and promiscuous and has slept with many men because he’s lonely but unsure of how to process any love that’s not platonic or physical, and the only way he can think to fill that space is by assuming another identity and constantly chasing the high of endorphins at night so he can focus on being a good sensei and a reliable mentor during the day”.

Hhhhhhh... making my own interpretations of characters is so much less nerve-wracking when they don’t have canon personalities. I’ve been spoiled.
I’m still trying to figure out what the heck to do with Kiyoteru Natural... I’ve fallen hard for his Rock bank, as I often do for well-executed Power-type banks, but his Natural is so... I dunno, neutral? that I can’t make it sound good in powerful songs (or at least not as good as Rock can pull off), and I can push him to sound nice and soft, but the end result still feels a bit awkward because, well... he’s not a Soft-type bank. He never has been.

That’s what it is. His Natural is too Neutral and I Don’t Know What to Do. 😅
I'm at the stage of writing where I'm getting stuff done, but I'm not making any breakthroughs and I'm not feeling good about anything. It's like pushing a flat-bottom boulder down an asphalt road: no matter how much effort I put into it, I barely get anywhere, and I wonder what the point of going on is when I'm so exhausted yet I've gotten so little accopmplished.

We had enough down-time after it got dark that I was able to get a few paragraphs done, but I still have so much left to do.
Me: "Ma'am, I apologize, but we've been closed due to the snow for two days, so we're behind on orders."

Ma'am: "So you're telling me you couldn't even finish my order while you were sitting at home doing nothing?"

Oh, of course, why didn't I think of that? I could have just accessed the location-based OPC and then fired up the $40,000 Xerox C9065 that I keep in my house in the off-chance I'll need to fill orders at home! On days like this, I REALLY wish it were legal to call customers idiots to their face.

I mean, I guess it is legal, just... frowned upon.

RIGHT?? I get needing a print order urgently, but MAYBE don't place it with a store that's closed in that case!

@cafenurse: "You see, ma'am, it's because of something called the greenhouse effect. When the electromagnetic radiation from the sun passes through the glass in our play area, it hits the ground and play equipment and gets converted into heat. The radiation from the sun can go through the glass easily, but the heat can't escape directly, so the play area gets hotter and hotter. Even when the sun goes behind the clouds, the heat has a hard time escaping from under the glass. It will stay hot in there until the hot air either escapes through the doors with passing customers or until it transfers its heat back into the glass by conduction, at which point the passing wind will carry it away. But those things will probably take several hours, since it will only cool off in there when the amount of heat generated by solar radiation is less than the heat outflow via those methods I mentioned.

It is hot in there. Did you want a soda to go with that chicken sandwich and fries?
A few days ago, a pair of chickadees showed up in our back yard, so my mother fed them. We’re now averaging about twenty-five birds in the yard at any given moment. The cats are in paradise.

The O originally stood for Ollie Jr., then O’Brian, then Obama, before Oliver decided Obadiah fit best.

Yes, Oliver uses his full name when scolding him. It’s glorious.

Well, I'm still only averaging a paragraph a day on my fic... but I did just complete a five-part UST in about three hours, so I can't say I'm ENTIRELY worthless. I'm quite proud of that!

(That is, of course, with no tuning whatsoever. I don't think I've ever tuned a full-length song in that time... Dance of Reality took about five or six collectively, and I usually consider that my fastest.)
Please validate me, I like to think I'm funny

Hhhhh... I compared Iori to "a less pleasant Yuzuki" to Patuk, and in re-indulging my adoration of Yuzuki even though Ford is still the best by far, I've remembered now that I ship Wayne and Ludus. Hard.

As with everything I ship, no one else ships it. orz

OKAY, BUT IMAGINE: Wayne keeps bringing Ludus flowers ("A special delivery from a secret admirer!"), and Ludus finally cracks and decides to interrogate Lisette so he can find out who his admirer is - and she's immediately like "Oh, so THAT'S why Wayne's been buyin' all those flowers lately!" THERE'S SO MUCH FLUFF POTENTIAL

NO WAIT. Reorganizing my priorities as such:
    1. Pioneers of Olive Town Premium Edition preorder
    2. Peach Slices Peach Pudding cleanser
    3. Rikka Standard
    4. Miku NT
Whenever preorders for Rune Factory 5 open up, that'll take priority as well; should it happen before I get Miku NT it'll be listed as higher-priority than her. While I am eager to get Miku NT, I'm in no particular rush, especially since her Dark and Whisper banks haven't been released yet.
Welp, just as I talk about the hit the weather's going to take on my paycheck, a rare bank I have been wanting for a very, very, very, very, VERY long time has become available... and who am I to spit in the face of fate?

My bank will hate me for a while, but holy crap, it'll be worth it.
Surpassing everyone’s expectations, we did, in fact, get over half a foot of snow. Work was cancelled today and is cancelled again tomorrow, and might be Wednesday as well.

My paycheck is crying, but my soul is flying.
So the Train Song Guy has a cover with Gakupo and Kiyoteru, who I have been on a massive Feels Trip over lately (considering I'm working to finish a fic featuring them by the end of the month), and I'm just... I'm so HAPPY y'all, please understand how much I love this :kaito_lili:

Me at 7:00pm: Oh my GOD I can't wait until it's 9 or 10! I'm gonna go to sleep and sleep all night and through the whole morning and hell, I might just sleep through the day too!

Me at 2:00am, perched atop the kitchen table: Good morning, worm, your honaaaaaah! The crrrrown will plainly show the prrrrisonaaaaaah who now standssssss before you, was caught red-hhhhanded showing FEELINGS
    *cracks knuckles*

I'm gonna tackle a violently V2 four-parter and bring it into the 2020s.

Wish me luck! I've never done that many distinct parts in one song before.

"Violently V2" isn't to imply it's bad; it was my absolute favorite song when I was 13, and I wouldn't be covering it if I didn't still love it. But my God, sometimes you hear a song and you're like "That is PEAK V2-era", y'know? This is one such song.

Anyway, all four vocalists have had updates since the song's release, all of which I own, sooooooo~
The fact that everyone thought Haiyi’s private banks were on Vocaloid says a lot about how high-quality you can make Utau banks sound. The fact that “Utau is an inferior Vocaloid alternative” is a mindset that didn’t die out while I was between fandoms genuinely boggles me.
