Will the boxes also be available at a discount for those who own their OGs or their updates or anything like that, I wonder? The upgrade period doesn’t last long, iirc, and I’d love the boxes, but I don’t wanna wait and then have to pay $106 for Haiyi and Cangqiong when I can pay $7 now (as I don’t intend to use my upgrades until I get a new laptop)...
Upgrade price will go to 100CNY from 50CNY after the promotional period ends. I've actually asked them a question about this since I want to upgrade during the promotion period but want boxes as well, so waiting for a response.

Update on the last post, I got a response! Apparently it's okay to buy digitally now, and they will be able to supply the commemorative box when they're released.

Awesome!! Is there anything you’ll need to say to ensure you get a box? Or do you order one later and provide proof you have the update? Sorry for asking so many questions!!

I think as long as you can prove you have the upgrade, probably by saying the email it's registered to, it should be fine. If there's any issues down the line I'll ask Quadimension about it.

Considering what Quadimension have told me, I've just ordered the update versions! Can't wait to try them out on the 10th.

Oh this is great news! I was wondering about that as well. And just to clarify before I buy -- only once the new code has been activated, is the old code unusable, right? So theoretically I can buy this update but just not activate it yet and eventually move original CQ over to another computer before activating the update? :0

I think that when they make the new code it'll invalidate the old one. Or at least, that's my understanding. Better to move CQ first.

We've just got the third entry in the tutorial series - Groups and Tracks!

I love the groups feature so, so much. It works like how I've wished VOCALOID's parts function would work for so long, and the interaction with track arrangement seems seamless. This is a great feature for producers.

We also know that you can apply an effect (such as reduced Tension) to a group as a whole, so I think it'll be used a lot! One application I could see it having is if people want to create certain presets with the Kotonoha Akane & Aoi voice database in order to give them more individual vocals, then they can select a group and apply the "Akane" or "Aoi" preset as they please.

We now have part 4 of the tutorial series, Tuning Basics!

There's nothing massively different in this one compared to the 1st generation Synthesizer V, but it really shows how useful the new UI is comparatively.

I noticed that transitions now use semitones instead of an abstract multiplier value. That's much more useful.

Additionally, I noticed the use of left and right kanji characters in the transition properties. So that's what the L and R letters mean in SynthV! I figured that R stood for "Release," but I could never figure out what L stood for. Lattack?

But now that I know what L and R represent, I don't think that's the best description. After all, the direction of audible sound is always relative to the listener. Yeah, it kinda works when visually editing, but imagine discussing the tuning of a finished and released track when the editor is nowhere to be seen:

A: "I think the left transition is too steep."
B: "Naw, it's fine. It's the right transition that needs reducing."

Are they talking some sort of stereo effect? Or what?

The "left" and "right" labels are way too dependent upon editor visuals and not the sound itself. But more importantly, "left" and "right" already have an implied meaning in audio production.

Wow I'm actually impressed that's a lot more intuitive than vocaloid. I just hope phoneme editing is more intuitive than synth v1

Amanokei has published a review now that it's out in China.

Main points include:
  • While on the technical side there hasn't been many changes, the UI has been improved and overhauled massively. It's a bit like a V2 -> V3 feeling, since there's nothing like XSY being added.
  • The sound quality has seriously improved, especially the breathy parts. It was quite muddy in R1, but the R2 engine is a lot clearer and higher frequencies are synthesized a lot better now. R1 sample vs R2 sample. This is also a sample of Genbu's full voice in Synthesizer V Studio, which we haven't had yet.
  • He's happy that SynthV can now read .vpr and .ccs files.
  • The JIT parameter that was available in note properties in the 1st gen SynthV is now a lot easier to understand since you can visualise the wobble.
  • He confirms you can choose alternative phonemes. Genbu seems to have 3 options.
  • The editor clearly visualises how much of each track is rendered. You can use up to 12 threads, which is insane and will probably eat your CPU if it isn't powerful enough, but is great to see.
  • They fixed a longstanding issue relating to sounds like じゃ, where it would split into [じ][ゃ] when using lyric input.
  • The exported .ust files from SynthV can now be read with no issue.
  • 1.0.3 was very laggy apparently (we talked about this at length before LOL) but apparently now in 1.0.4 it's not laggy at all and works very well.
  • Apparently since the VST version was controversial, they have removed support for it currently. Some people may be disappointed by this.
  • The breath component separation feature is neat but not incredibly useful unless you want to be very particular about mixing. It makes for a cool whisper effect though.
  • Glottal effects, which basically everyone and their mother thought were useless/difficult to understad, have been removed. It's a bit regrettable that there's no good way to get an easy vocal fry in SynthV right now because of this.
Overall seems pretty good. Looking forward to trying it out myself soon!

I really like what I am hearing/seeing with Synth V. I am kind of disappointed that the glottal effects are gone, but there is so much new stuff replacing it. I am really excited, but I'm still mainly waiting for Genbu/Eleanor to go on sale. Thanks for sharing so much information with us!

Essentially, the key points are:
  • Animen are going to give people who bought either the Synthesizer V Editor or AiKO through them a VIP special upgrade price for the respective software. For the Editor to Studio Pro upgrade, it'll be $29. For AiKO, it'll be $9. This is in line with Quadimension's pricing.
  • Additionally, these VIP customers will be able to purchase their other Synthesizer V products at a discounted price. This is as follows:
    • Synthesizer V Studio Pro: $39
    • AiKO: $19
    • GENBU: $29
    • Saki: $65
  • Saki is probably more expensive as she is not directly made by Animen.
  • It seems the site will open on July 12th and sales will start on the 15th. This isn't too clear so I've asked them about it. They support PayPal fully now as well as various credit cards.
  • They plan to start reservations for Eleanor Forte's new voice database at the end of August for VIP customers. If reserved, a special discount will be available. Animen will disclose more info closer to the time.
  • Animen will launch an official VOLOR website along with updated terms of use and an official Twitter.
Pretty big. We now also have a timeline for Eleanor, seems that she should be ready for October/November at the latest.

In other news, Ddickky will continue shipping Synthesizer V Studio Pro and the updated Medium⁵ vocals to those who ordered them in a few hours. Currently planning to stay up late in hopes mine will arrive.
