Ooh, this is a really nice way to compare the engines!

SynthV sounds the most natural imo but Eleanor's pronunciation seems to get jumbled towards the end while the others sound fine.

Would you mind PM'ing me the midi you used? I'd kinda like to add IA Eng and maaaybe UTAU to this comparison (and EmVoice is I stop being lazy and download it!

@Kona how exactly should I go about sending the MIDI, since i can't attach it?

Btw, the only changes I made were for pronounciation (Eleanor needed the most). Vocaloid and SynthV were made off of the same MIDI, but I had to remake it for A/E b/c it's so fussy about it's sources.

For total accuracy, would you be able to make an 'out of the box', totally untuned/unedited version? It would be really interesting to compare how each software sounds raw. But I appreciate the effort made already, so don't feel obligated.

Synth V is pretty impressive.

It took me forever to figure out what the name of the child was.

All I really did was edit phonemes (Might b some very slight adjustments on Dex). No synth can default say "Charlotte" as three syllables b/c that isn't how it's normally said, SynthV was saying "Child ren", etc. A/E needed a new MIDI b/c if notes are touching, it determines it as "sing one syllable on two notes".

Gah sorry should provide lyrics.

Here's an (edited) human version. There's a clean version in the bonus material but only upload I could find was too quiet.

You can send it to me on Discord Konasaur#9835, should be able to send. You can also upload it somewhere like Google Drive or Fropbox and send me the DL

I rendered IA English! Will try doing UTAU later.

I think IA might be best ptonunciation wise? She actually had no issues with "Charlotte", which surprised me. The only thing I really notice compared to the others is that because of CeVIO's engine, her timing of things gets off a bit (but I mean, CeVIO has a timing parameters so that's a very easy fix) and I think she has expressiveness in between Dex and Eleanor but with CeVIO's engine naturally, an almost choppiness and engine noise closer to Marie.
Also as a note, I rendered this with IA English Natural,

Oh now this is interesting! I don't like how Dex said a few things, I would have definitely itched to edit it more thoroughly if I were trying to wrangle it into a finished cover/whatever. Actually, out of the box (aside from your mentioned necessary tweaks) I think Ellie's is the best. I listened to them in order and wasn't totally certain on the lyrics at the end from Dex, but had no issues understanding Ellie. I don't think she sounds garbled at the end? Dex does more so even.

Marie I won't comment so much on. She's choppy but that's the engine I suppose? And it's the same with IA. I had to make myself relisten to it to agree that her pronunciation is fantastic, because it's just so choppy that I hated it the first time and couldn't focus on much else. CeVIO is an interesting engine...

Anyway this just solidifies in my mind that Yamaha's wig has been utterly snatched.

I think Dex and Elly are about even? If you had an issue with Dex's "under" @Leon, I changed that manually to match how i sing it. Anything else is normal however.

Is that so? Difference in accents perhaps then. I suppose I came off as attacking Dex a bit (never -- everyone here knows I'm a ho for Zero-G), but it wasn't that his was bad -- I just didn't understand it right off the bat as easily as Synth V's. Probably just my ears though :)

Oh it wasn't that, that was just what leaped into my mind. I was taught to sing open vowels, I probably sing halfway between "ahr" and "er" for that. I changed it b/c it bugged me how he (and Elly, if I'd thought of it) said it.

Ironically, Alter/Ego had almost no pronunciation issues when i set it up.

Imo CeVIO would be a strong competitor if it weren't for that choppiness. The timing parameter only helps so much, but it shows potential given Vocaloid was also choppy once. The only issue I encounterbwith IA Eng aside her choppiness is her twang, especially the longer notes she has trouble with (noticeable at the end of the sample).

Though I guess to benefit Vocaloid as well, it's very different depending on who you use. Some VBs are more naturally expressive and HQ than others, and not to knock Dex, but there are certainly more HQ VBs.
