  • Idk if I can / should share about it but akiglancy shared a document with the Vocamerica kickstarter backers detailing some of the issues people have had with the project. She made it very clear that she didn't use the money for her personal expenses, which is what I was most worried about. The other characters also haven't been added because of what I can only assume is internal drama among the members of the creative team. It makes me sad that vocamerica had so much potential but ended up being held back a lot

While I do sympathize, as I'm sure such things are difficult to manage, if people pay to get something, the money is used, but the product is never delivered, it's still a scam. I think it's fair to be critical of that. The whole thing could have been avoided is the sad part; they weren't ready but went ahead anyway.

i was just looking at the email about this and was wondering in general what people though of vocamerica... my dad backed it (for me, as a gift) for a small price years ago and i recall when they did do a show and all that but due to their lack of being able to like... get around the country to host shows n all and actually go to a place I could even see it live (which i really wanted to), it left my radar even though my dad forwards me the emails still. it left my radar so much i was thinking to myself odten "wait, did they do everything they said they would?"

i dont feel like theyve completely failed in doing what they intended to do, but its clear its taken a long ass time, with a very messy development up to this point. some of it is not aki's fault, but this was a project that just i think needed a stronger management that knew what they were getting into. its so large scale to want to host various live concerts around the country with the added cost for getting unique models and animations made too. the fact its in a way 'coming to a close' and i dont feel like i got what i was expecting stands though.. never got to see a concert of it myself which is a shame, and i cant even say im hyped to see it after like...5 years of not enough developments i expected from the original goal
Tumblr ppl hate fandoms now, twitter ppl hate it when you use the site to post about your interests, tiktok is a madhouse, insta is awful for artists, pinterest is stolen art central,no one cares about vocal synth stuff on youtube unless it's someone already popular, is there any place I can go to talk about my hobbies other than forums??
there's an interesting contest going on piapro right now that asks artists to redesign Miku completely. Basically, imagine if you were Kei in 2007 and you got hired to design "Hatsune Miku".
this is one of my favorite entries: piapro(ピアプロ)|イラスト「クロニクルミク」
I didn't know the contest existed until after I saw it and wondere why the heck it was tagged as miku!
this one is cool too, i like the background: piapro(ピアプロ)|イラスト「ども〜初音ミクです〜」
Also apparently according to this blog post, Miku's image color is "Blue-Green"

I've often thought about how crucial her design has been to her rise to fame. Her color scheme choice was based on the Yamaha DX-7 keyboard. It made her unique, in that blue-green is a very uncommon color among anime/manga/mascot characters. Green in itself is somewhat uncommon. I have a feeling that it was unintentional, just a lucky choice. It was smart to give her not only twintails, but ankle-length twintails. More than just a popular hair style, the exaggerated feature gives her a distinct silhouette; an important design element. Combined with the unique color, it means that any character with blue-green twintails is either Miku, or will be mistaken for Miku.

Her overall design straddles the line between cute and cool. Her youthful appearance contrasts with her high-tech styling. If she was all bubblegum and rainbows or if she was an inhuman cybergirl, it would have limited her demographic and skewed the idea of what music she was suitable for.

Her top and skirt are evocative of a school uniform. But the choice of a tie instead of a neckerchief keeps it more, you might say, professional in appearance. The detached sleeves mirror her thigh-high leggings giving a sense of four-way symmetry rather than just bilateral symmetry. But the hanging band and 01 tattoo on her left side adds a needed asymmetrical accent.

It says something that despite several redesigns, the original design is still used in games, concerts, and promotional media.
Sometimes I think about that post in unpopular opinions about creative freedom with vocaloid characters....all fictional characters have some level of reinterpretation and creative freedom. Vocaloid is unique in that it isn't based around one pre existing media. But the various communities around vocal synths are not that different from any other music driven community or curative /transformative fandom space. The issue is that some people want that creative freedom we enjoy to go away. Those who face pushback for their works often get very defensive about this topic as a result. No one wants to fight over this stuff.....

These are the elements that make Vocaloid what it is. Without these it never would have become as popular and enduring as it is. It would have stayed a niche piece of music industry software with a small meme community. The crowd-sourced content and free expression nature is the whole point of it all.
    • User-generated creative content shared freely online without corporate control
    • Personal expression using a common set of recognizable characters as symbols
    • These characters operating as blank-slates to represent individual creators' ideas
    • Ultra low barrier to entry: Buy the software to become a producer. Enjoy the music to become a fan.
    • The mere fact that a person likes vocal synths and the associated characters provides a base level of common ground.
If Vocaloid content was made according to corporate guidelines by approved producers with a strict canon for each character it would have died out long ago.
I love flower fan artists so much! They also reminded me it's apparently flower talks first anniversary.... Was that really only a year ago??
would anyone here appreciate a doc I made of UTAUs that are easy to use for beginners? Most of them are native Japanese utaus because that's what I use.

aaaa I love this! mmm dunno whether Mr Yarao should be on the list! He has some quirks that need ironing out as well as issues with looping samples on some of his vbs and person who isn't familiar with utau wouldn't know how to approach that:0c I say it as number one Yarao stan...love love that boi

He was one of Peachy's 1st vbs she's used when she was starting out and she was having troubles w him...plus he's hard to mix iirc?

Yeah, Yarao's excellent, but I wouldn't call him a beginner's VB; he's very powerful and produces nice results, but trying to use him when you have little experience, as I did when I first used him, is Not Fun. I'd call him more of an Intermediate VB. Aside from that, this is an excellent list!
