  • i kiiinda wanted to try and do a solaria design but im not sure i wanna make myself feel obligated to do a thing im not *that* inspired for.... and ive also always been conflicted on the concept of just doing a contest to hand someone a design hoping itll win after my efforts and the prize is that they just use it for free with no compensation- and yes you get a special physical edition and that tier's rewards but. idk its good for the folk who are hardcore fans! and i do like her, i like vocal synth a lot, but monetary compensation kinda means something specific in what feels like a contest to get free designs to look through without paying someone properly

i mean no shade at solaria/eclipse sounds in particular because id apply this to really any design contest out there that has happened- vocal synth or not. art contests can totally be a fun and normal thing to do but when it comes to actually *using* the art i get a little :/ about it depending on how its dealth with using the art they basically commissioned people to do without pay- the artists rights and their art's rights matter and so does their time making it. the first contest was basically just a fan art show off with a benefit because the art wasnt being used by them in the end (i mean, thats what the page said at least?). but a design contest means using someone's work- not just once but for a long time (and this is also assuming or hoping they dont make profit off the design specifically in the future, and isnt specified on the terms for the contest either). and a contest is kinda like reaching out and saying "we want someone to design something but instead of seeking out a person and paying them straight forwardly, lets hold a contest where everyone does stuff for us *first* and then we decide what we like, while not actually giving monetary compensation for what was basically a free commission". it IS fun to do contests, mostly when theres no age cap and youre young and its exciting!! i totally get it. im just an adult and im tired and i need real work so i guess i have lost all the enjoyment out of things like this /s.
artfight is starting so i may end up being quite inactive over here! i wont be crazy active there but it does take some energy out of me, and i have a lot of IRL stuff to attend to at the same time. so if anyone wants to catch me on artfight, Art Fight
i never have shame in my old art but its always weird when a particular piece just keeps getting attention and its from years ago. somehow ppl still come to my YT channel from that one Ghost video i did art in and its. weird. like goddamn that was 2016/2017

oh huh theres a link on my name in the vocaloid wiki page (no page exists, but its hyperlinked) too. i wonder if thats because i make vocaloid original content. who wants to make my wiki page lmao
solaris got a name change??? okay. i mean sure solaris isnt an uncommon name but solaria isnt either. i guess it sounds more feminine or something
drawing idea in my head but Solaris' design/concept is making me want to make vocaloid designs inspired by elements of space (whether its objects, entities, anomalies, vocab terms, etc)..... yes of course i have one in mind for flower already lol. fyi space/aliens are a special interest of mine and i run a RP discord server that has space elements so i have. a brain full of thoughts of this
patiently waiting for an email from anicute for the previous customer discount code...... they are always very slow imo lol.. but even the price already is like nothing for eleanor's ai bank right now, very much gonna hop on that deal even if the discount code doesnt come in...
boy it sure has been a full month since i looked here. i think stepping away from making covers was the right move out of all i did in the last month. i may slowly get back into vocaloid things by drawing stuff instead because i like the characters. idk if i will do cover again, any time soon. but i have been inspired to touch original music again (vocaloids or no vocaloids- but i probably wont be using vocaloid soon regardless just to give me some time).

and while i am the person who shares as many Flower songs as i can in the Music/PV release forum, i probably wont get back on that for a bit. BUT if you wanna get aware of most recent flower songs i have seen, take a look at my overall vocaloid playlist on youtube (its unlisted) as i add flower songs whenever i see them :)

also, i think aside from not touching synth stuff, i think i will actually be working on UTAU on the side. i have an unfinished VB i wanna oto because i will be starting testosterone soon and i still think working IN vocal synth stuff, like the tech side, is really interesting and itll be fulfilling to myself.
It's impossible for me to be completely unaware of any news regarding Flower so I want to quickly report she is... alive! Like. There are new tweets on her Twitter suddenly. Not about anything super important (at least as I post this) but. She's actually back after not tweeting since January. Hm.

    Now I leave again.
me: alright so i just sold 90% of my physical vocaloids
    brain: yes.
me: and i did this because i dont have interest in owning vocaloids anymore, so i dont want to spend on physicals at the very least
    brain: yes
me: so what do we do when we think about physical vocaloids?
    brain: want to buy them--
i literally get emails from vocamerica bc my dad backed it for me as a gift years ago and yet i was completely unaware there was an online concert happening yesterday.... it was not even mentioned on the newest update....where was i supposed to know that

Huh, I thought for sure that it was mentioned in at least one update since I knew about it before it happened, but I looked through the emails and I couldn't find it at all. Guess I found out about it some other way, but honestly, you're right - all the emails are about getting the models done and getting new equipment and stuff which is... nice I guess, but I'd think updating everyone about when these concerts are happening is pretty important too.

Honestly I don't really care about Vocamerica at all and I only backed the bare minimum to get the keychains when the kickstarter was running because I like keychains, lol. I'm more surprised than anything that we still get constant updates (and sometimes about unrelated things like Aki's other projects???) literal years after the campaign ended.

yeah the newest email i had was about the gear that arrived. i checked again, as i often skim the emails, but i did not see it mentioned anywhere. i definitely dont follow Aki anywhere either so idk if she stated it there. but idk why it wouldnt be announced where the backers are getting emails ya know lol... @Rylitah

i was young when my dad decided to back for me, and was much more into fandom stuff. got the album, some art, and keychains and theyre cute and all but i have never even seen a concert from them and i hardly ever see them announced on the emails- how else am i supposed to know...? theyve never even come to the west coat iirc, at least no where i could see it, so i admittedly just forget it exists tbh! at this point its just so...slow.... and the fact aki is expecting to 'end' it in the next year or so makes me wonder why i should care theyve bought new equipment and all but idk /shrug

I only knew because I follow the convention it was held at. Tried to look if it was mentioned anywhere else before and also couldn't find anything?? Just.. a really sneaky appearance, kinda. I watched it and uhm.. well.. I mean. It was okay. But uhh.. probably wouldn't watch again
the sweet ann "crazy" demo caught my attention over a year ago because tbh, for an official demo song for an engloid at the time, i felt like it was really well tuned. wish we knew who tuned it specifically, because it still think it sounds very good. i often feel a number of official demos (mostly for older loids) are just not...very good lol

it was from around 2007, right? ngl when I heard it the first time I was kinda surprised by how good she sounded.

yep 2007! the tuning felt very similar to the tuning i hear people attempt today. the person used 'note bending' quite a bit which i dont see much in demos, and it also seemed clear they altered her vibrato well and used the dynamic parameter for volume. its definitely a good use of sweet ann!
my old youtube covers always blow up every now and then and i dont dislike them or anything but i still sit here dissapointed im getting compliments on covers and tuning from 2017 and my new covers dont get the same traction at all..like.... hey commenters, i know you like v flower. i know you like my art and tuning. perhaps.....click on my youtube channel find more?? its hard not to be frustrated some times
hmmm i wanna tackle my utau stuff again soon and i really wanna record an english bank really bad, but im not sure what type. i know vccv is popular and commonly used (and i dread converting phonemes on USTs for different english vb types) but i know its a lot of work to record. i recorded and english arpasing bank back when that first came out and i honestly loved recording it because it was so quick to do, but i also know its not very popular (and has some flaws due to the lack of development).

i definitely want to use something that would be easy to use in the sea of other people's USTs as i think thats important to consider when other people use it and may not want to deal with conversion. but i also hate recording long ass lists myself lol

I feel like arpasing is the 2nd most popular after VCCV

i do feel its gotten some good attention, though i guess i feel i still dont see it a lot? but i am also not super on top of what people are doing in the utau community lol. i know ive also heard some people making extended lists for arpasing too but i have really been aware which one would be best to use.... ill definitely poke around a bit more for arpasing and see if one way seems better than the other, as i do quite like how arpasing works!

You should find several versions of the reclists on the arpasing website:)

but yee imo if you wanna record relevant eng reclist that isnt VCCV arpasing is ur best bet, going into the CVVC area would leave you kinda lost and on your own juhygth.
i keep thinking about vocal synth designs that really stick in my head the most. and i realize i really enjoy seeing strong white/black base+[one color] accent designs. i think pure white with one accenting color gives me major futuristic minimalist vibes and i adore it.

like for example, i actually really love Mirai Komachi's design. color wise, lovely. the focus on orange is so bold and i definitely dont see that color a lot on vocal synths. a second favorite is KAFU- i am sad i like her design so much because i really dont like her voice and everything surrounding it lol. but she's probably one of my fave designs in while.

some others that fit this look to some level but arent exactly favorites- azuki, matcha, len/rin, macne nana. perhaps a few more but the color range starts to increase on some of them. its funny to point out rin/len because i think out of all the crypton loids they stand out to me most- miku and luka almost have that color vibe too but their colors are a but more muted and not very focused on their colors highlighting the outfit as a while (for miku and luka, its really just their hair)
i am a person who cares like... way more about vocaloid being a musical product to buy than a fandom with media to consume. and regardless as to where certain fans stand in that i do wish more ppl looked at yamaha has the massive company they are... they are doing stuff, lots of *other* stuff, which makes sense. it aint vocaloid but i think its neat, and it good to see them touching on other things because theres a lotta change in what people want when it comes to digital singers and the like. and who knows what direction itll take them in but ill be interested to see it.
stumbling one some vocaloid 3 demo video and it took me a second to digest the video came out. 9 years ago. god
i wonder how much solaris will cost in the end... i keep looking at the tier for the week-early digital copy and while its mainly to support the campaign i cant really justify wanting to drop $125 for a digital vb....mostly when its a bit up in the air on what it will sound like. i am just bad at being patient kdfjhgdfhg but i dont think one week early is enough of a benefit for that tier to make me want it

Im just glad the test vb exists cuz it proves theyre for real but yeah it is important to take into consideration there tend to be tonal differences between standard and ai synthvs, almost like they're appends to one another

Nah I totally get it. With the amount of physical rewards added on top of just trying to get the project itself funded, it'd be weird to me if it didn't cost a little more than a regular voicebank purchase. I thought the test bank sample sounded good, but I haven't backed it yet since I'm a little wary on not knowing how the AI voice will sound though..... but I'll probably end up backing for the physical before the end of it ;>

yeah the $125 is totally fine as the price is up there with the intention that youre buying it like that to support the campaign! so it makes sense. imo campaigns and rewards are always a tricky thing for me to wanna spend money on anyways, just with the fact you gotta hope the project goes well and everything get delivered (and this isnt being said in a way to say i dont trust them, things can just go wrong sometimes ya know)

also im definitely glad to now have heard saki AI english vs Standard now after solaris. if i hadnt heard that i probably would be much but :/ about how Solaris could come out- in that i couldnt even guess how different it could be. so im looking forward to it in the sense i think it will sound pretty good. but i also....cant imagine exactly how itll sound so i cant help but just want to wait until we see it before deciding.
