I’ve seen a lot of “Pirate Vocaloids! Yamaha doesn’t need the money! But don’t you dare pirate SynthV or CeVIO or anything like that~”, like people just… forget that pirating Vocaloids hurt the companies that publish the VBs, not Yamaha. Pirating is why Voctro Labs stopped after Maika and it damn-near killed the Vsingers. But gotta stick it to Evil Yamaha, right?

But yeah, I’m all here for pirating Adobe and abusing the Amazon system, because fuck them.

It really drives me up the wall when people don't realize that by pirating Vocaloids, you hurt the companies that publish the Vocaloid. I mod a few different synth servers (including my own), and the amount of people I have to scold for trying to promote piracy of Vocaloids is frustrating to say the least... also where do people get the impression that Yamaha is somehow evil? I mean, yeah, Vocaloid5 isn't at a reasonable price for your average hobbyist, but it does come preloaded with voicebanks and has enough good features to justify the price increase. Is there something with Yamaha that I missed?
Also, speaking of Vocaloid piracy, I was reading that Mayu was the second most pirated Vocaloid around her release, so I can't help but wonder if that damaged her voicebank sales and is possibly why she's not as big as she once was.
Also, I once saw a fairly well-known synth users (I will not say who) say that being anti-Vocaloid piracy is classist, and, I can understand where it comes from, but I still don't think you should pirate provided it damages the companies who make them, since they're relatively small-time.

@peaches2217 i also saw someone ask how big crypton was, and asked if it was ok to pirate miku, and i had to tell them that crypton is still a fairly small company so NO dbsuvs

And yeah, the vocaloids that failed really hurt, since some of them are the best vbs i've heard/used imo. and im not TRYING to condone pirating vocaloid, but i'll be honest, i DID pirate V4 and a few vbs before i even started buying vocaloid stuff, but that was to try it out before i considered dropping money, and the best excuse is that i didnt know trials were a thing until later. But, i buy legal copies now

To tell you the truth, I can't begrudge people who pirate Vocaloids that lack trials to determine if they want to buy them, on the condition that, whatever decision they come to, they uninstall the 'loid when they're done. But it's such a slippery slope that I find it safest to just condemn pirating in general, but acknowledge internally that there's some legitimate reasons for short-term, selective piracy. But you'll find no judgement from me for those conditions, I can guarantee that!

A lot of the pro-vocaloid piracy mindset also comes from very....western...point of view from what I've noticed and people often gloss over the fact that China has huge piracy problem and even if jp-loids aren't targeted at chinese audience the market there is big enough to actually still hurt them if pirated, that's why SynthV has so much encryption and why Vsingers basically have to be marketed agressively outside of vocal synth stuff to make up the loss back and why there are such few chinese vocaloids specifically outside of them...and I dunno...I don't think we should be adding to the problem when we can:/ it's not a black & white type of situation but still shouldn't be normalized to big degree

I genuinely believe that if the western fandom wasn't so strictly anti-piracy way back we simply wouldn't have gotten the engloids we have now, we saw what happened to spanish-loids in a lot mre piracy lenient community. I guess it's good people now share the same mindset for SVS....how the history repeats itself hbgvfcd
