I don't speak Korean but I speak Russian and there we have something that I think are "tensed consonants". There you can change the sound of most consonants in two ways by putting a symbol between the consonant and the following vowel ("ь" to make it sound softer, "ъ" for a harder sound). E. g. you can change "rü" to "ryu" or "podest" to "podyest".
To hear the difference, just paste the words "подест" & "подъесд"...
