  • would people be interested in a thread where I recap the vocal synth releases of 2021? I guess we dont need it since we have the calendar function but I like interacting with the community here in that way

That would be a cool thing to have in a 2022 predictions thread!
vocaloid isnt anime and it isnt the music industry, it's the most like comic books. Everything is handed over to 100+ different writers and they all have their own different styles, so you pick and choose which works appeal to you because reading all of them would take up your entire life.
*This post brought to you by seeing a random tumblr post about the comic industry and wondering why the heck most of it could apply to vocaloid exactly
I hate saying disingenuous bad faith things about the vocaloid fandom but the part about people never caring about/paying attention to the people that keep the community alive while lambasting anyone who gets a minor detail about a synth wrong feels too real sometimes.
So glad Reddit is a fun social media platform for me and not toxic like everyone says it is

I think it all depends on what subreddits you follow (I don't have an account on there, I just lurk a couple of places regularly) - from my experience, the subreddits that everyone is automatically subbed to when you create an account tend to be the most toxic, since everyone can see what goes on in them, and I imagine a lot of people don't think to unsubscribe to them at first. Subreddits that seem to constantly hit the front page also tend to be more toxic too.
Vocatwt isn't bad because it's full of kids, also not bad because of """""drama""""", it's bad because all of it is random strangers looking to one up each other and asset dominance over nothing
theres ppl who make fun of piko fans (I used to be one) but they have more live in their hearts for vocaloid and its culture than the vast majority of us do. bless them
It's funny how fandoms are stereotyped as being full of kids when the most active people are always people in their 30s. I guess the kids are louder and more excitable. That and it's more socially acceptable for a kid to squee about something

It caught me off-guard a few years ago when people started talking like Vocaloid was something they liked as a kid but need to grow out of.

I feel like most fans in the early years, like myself, were in college at the time. Bittorrent, fansubs, and YouTube were still fairly new, and anime was finally starting to become popular. My sister was in high school at the time and it seemed like she was one of only a handful of kids in the whole school who really knew what anime was. And she was probably the only one who had watched stuff outside of what was aired on Toonami.
Metalheads act so pretentious yet they wouldn't last a day in the vocaloid community

This is a joke based off a Tumblr post why is everyone still commenting on this I'm well aware vocametal is a large and thriving subgroup. I'm talking about how people who make fun of others for listening to Billie eilish and hosier wouldn't last in the vocaloid community because we barely care about status

Ah, that makes sense. Still, best to specify those that are pretentious, rather than lumping us all together. This just read as an insult to people who like metal in general. 😅

Vocaloid fans are so weird why do they think most of us buy synths on the basis of how good they are or what their company is like and not just because we like them. This is the whole reason the software has anime girls associated with it in the first place

The character design and personality are a huge influence on me. Even without a canon personality they still give off a certain attitude by their art and via community creations. For me, it's not about making a synth vocal track for a song. It's about having that particular character sing a song. Also, I'd be more interested in trying to make a "bad" voice sound good, rather than trying to make a "good" voice sound good.
Why is vocamerica finishing all its models so quickly when it was supposed to go on hiatus ...

while i dont always read the updates in detail i thought hiatus was just referring to the concerts itself? like actually doing the show. they are and were always planning to have those models made and i didnt think it referred to behind the scene work like getting those done, unless i missed something

It's just weird to finally see the models I paid for getting made once they stopped doing concerts 😭

well iirc they also had a issue with the previous modeller too which i think is why there was a pause for them! the person was being really shitty and caused a lot of issues so they dropped them, they also just kinda dipped on making stuff at one point too! still sad they prob wont be used as much as they should tho :/
Why is autotune still such a huge topic of discourse nowadays? If you hate it just don't listen to songs that use it and shut up

I think it's because not a lot of people actually know what it is and elitism and that 99% of all music uses some level of pitch correction now.

Do you mean like harsh, intentional autotune? Because yeah... discourse surrounding that should not be happening anymore, especially with the rise of hyperpop and heavily processed vocals LMAO

I personally enjoy it a lot, if my reply wasn't clear enough haha
whether you know/like goodbye sengen or not is a sign of whether you're a vocaboomer or vocazoomer. i'm in my 20s and I love it so I guess im a vocamillenial
Had a dream last night that I was posting on this website...I think I'm obsessed

Your brain is just getting lazy coming up with new dreams material. Like someone trying to make up and tell a story, but they can't think of anything, so they just start telling a story about mundane things that actually happened.
