  • I have to be at work in a few hours what am I doing

I don't think this one turned out poorly at all! I even found a font that's a near dead-ringer for the caption font on her OG box, which let me touch up the otherwise blurry image some more (alongside individual components for her portrait and logo), so now this notorious big girl's compatible with standard DVD cases.

Mm… her cover’s too close to the spine, and the PFX logo on the back isn’t centered. I’ll have to fix that. Her system requirements should also mention Vista; I took them directly from her manual, but by the time she was released Vista would have been commonplace, while the manual was compiled (according to the file dates) sometime in 2006.

And I just laid down. And since I’m not permitted to download and install custom fonts on the work computers, I can’t work on her and then print her out tomorrow between customers. Dammit. :kaito_lili: Well, at least it’s all easy fixes!

    Ahh I did a group order for these right when they went up, if I had known there was interest here I would've extended it to here too ;;
Well, I have some people in my order who regretted not getting others, so maybe another group order is possible sometime!

(Shipping is a flat $50, but since we had 10 people in my order we were able to get it down to around $5 each. The more interested people the more affordable it gets, so it's definitely worth looking around!)
Every time I think this week can't get any better, it does. I wanna in turn give this positive energy to all of y'all. You're all amazing and I wish this same happiness on every last one of y'all.

Now to throw myself a party! Gonna see about making some vegan red velvet protein bars~
Ultimately I decided that spending an extra $100+ to have Miku's Chinese box shipped to me just... wasn't worth it. I'd have to actually buy the VB again, and even if I could just turn around and sell it, it seems like too much trouble.

Which is to say, this is... one of my weaker works, I fear, but it doesn't look bad when it's printed and in its box.

The spine's too thin, that's the biggest issue! No matter how I position it within a standard clear case, there's bleed on both sides. A quick adjustment and then the only thing left to address will be those designs in the background. If I can find something that at least looks similar I can probably pull it off!
I don’t want to jinx it, but since it’s a Friday surely it’s fine: this has been a really, REALLY good week. It’s been busy, but I keep getting good news and joyful occurrences left and right. Work has been good, a new cover I’ve started sounds absolutely beautiful, I’ve gotten to relax with my girlfriend, the schedule for next week is out and I’m FINALLY getting to take things slow after several months of 38+ hour weeks (the pay is great! The toll on my mental health? Well…) and… I dunno! I’m just super happy and grateful!

Here’s to a great weekend, and an ever-improving week after. I love all of y’all!
I always like to think that people who put on a face, who mistreat me and/or the ones I love, but are in turn beloved by others, will one day be brought to justice. I don't know if I truly believe in karma, but I believe in the just hand of God, and maybe God works through karma itself, I dunno. But to see someone standing so tall upon the crumpled souls and bodies they crushed to get up there, only to fall at long, long last... I don't like to see people suffer, but I WILL admit it's satisfying.

Which is to say, the Mary Kay lady who curses at and demeans and belittles me every time she comes in to have pictures of her smiling face and encouraging quotes printed just had me print out Facebook messages of people calling her out for being rude and unprofessional. She told me she's "gathering evidence" so she can sue them for defamation, because that's totally a case a sensible lawyer would take on.

    Suck it, Karen.

I dont believe in karma or whatever higher power stuff people like to talk about myself, but I think that it's perfectly sensible that people eventually "get what's coming to them". Makes sense I think -- if you're a shitty, selfish person who treats other people badly, people will eventually stop putting up with you, put you in your place, your plans will fall through. Etc. It's very vindicating to see, even if a tiny part of me still always feels bad about it (I can't hold a grudge to save my life LOL). So I'm glad it looks like this jerk is finally getting some backlash, Peaches! Hang in there 😤👊
Little-known fact about me: I'd really, really like to go vegan. But being autistic, I have trouble getting enough variety in my diet as is, because the SLIGHTEST bit of texture my mouth deems "off" sends my body into something akin to a panic attack, and an intense one at that, which has hindered my previous efforts.

That is to say, the only protein I typically get is from chicken, because it's the only meat I can handle, while pretty much all forms of vegan protein are difficult for me. Beans? I had a traumatic experience with baked beans as a child and will cry if I'm in the same room as them for too long (I was in childcare as a toddler and didn't wanna eat baked beans, so one caretaker restrained me while another force-fed them to me and threatened me (with what I don't remember) if I dared to spit them out. Yes, I know it's laughable, but damn if it didn't affect my tastes.). Nuts? I like the flavors of most of them, but the pieces get stuck between my teeth, like oversized, too-soft popcorn kernels. Nut butters? Hell yeah, I can eat those all day! But the amount I need to get a good dose of protein also contains so many fats and sugars and salts that it kinda defeats the whole purpose. Tofu or tempeh? Difficult to come across in the Bible Belt, where veganism is seen as a character flaw to be corrected via force-feeding of bacon. Breaded seitan? Sure, sure, as soon as I learn to make a single batch of brownies from scratch without catching the kitchen on fire again.

So I'm sitting here lamenting my difficulties to Patuk, who's deeply experienced in the topic, when she asks if I couldn't just... get some vegan protein powder? Put it in a shake or make some snacks with it?

I now have five boxes of vegan protein bars and three different no-bake bar recipes that I plan to shop for tomorrow after work. Two of those store-bought or homemade bars a day will get me over twice the protein I'm getting now as is.

I genuinely have no idea how I functioned before I met Patuk. She is the common sense to my eccentric naivety.

Patuk actually had a very nice idea! I consider myself half-vegan (I eat lot lot of soy and vegetables, I don't eat beef or other big animals, but I still eat tuna, chicken and pork meat, especially grilled chicken or salami.. I hope in the next years they'll make a vegan spicy salami..||ヽ(* ̄▽ ̄*)ノミ), and for the protein intake, you can count a lot on soy! and tuna cans, which are not expensive and very good for both diet and fast and easy recipes, you can make a tuna salad with corn and olives and peppers, or you can make a tuna pasta. Also, how about eggs? I love making omelette, both salty (with just salt, oil and onions, so fast and so tasty) and sweet (with cream and strawberry)
on Amazon you can also find very tasty vegan protein powders that have different ingredients and tastes, for example some are about vanilla, some about strawberry, and some about pumpkin! ^^ I usually cook them as a pancake or a donut, or in case of soy powder or pumpkin taste, I can make also vegan hamburger (I add some flour, curry, egg powder, peppers and mustard)
my favorite brand is Alpha Foods (you can find them on Amazon), and for me best taste is vanilla, strawberry and pumpkin. I usually don't choose chocolate taste because in that case, I prefer a chocolate bar which is always good :miku_sakura_lili:
and don't forget about soy yogurt and soy ice cream, they taste so good(。・∀・)ノ゙

I know this is more of a vegetarian than vegan but I get a lot of my protein from Greek yogurt and dairy. I drink a lot of smoothies made with fresh fruit, unflavored Greek yogurt and milk and for days I go to the gym I use unflavored whey protein powder.
Can you tell what I've been struggling with all night?

Look, in my defense, I once got frustrated and typed a very vulgar rant into Google... and it led me directly to the solution to my problem. So it never hurts to try.

Sometimes that works. My mom uses speech to text on her phone so occasionally she’ll speak in a really long sentence and get exactly what she’s looking for.
I've gotta come up with a better coping mechanism when I'm annoyed with a cover than "start on fifteen new covers". Though to be fair, this one is one I wanted to do since at least 2018... my brother and SIL sang it together at their wedding, and I, being the sentimental and loving sister I am, spent the whole time thinking "Huh. Once I get Meiko and Kaito, I should make them sing this." And by the time I got them, I forgot. 😅
My extensive Vocaloid collection just never seems big enough when I'm working on a cover and need EXACTLY the right voice. Too odd of a combo and no one will want to listen, but all of the "Of Course!" combos just don't work or were already used in the OG. Then I eye a particular girl in the Vocaloid shop that I don't yet have who might, just might, work for this song...

Darby stop buying Vocaloids you need the money to ship a package to Slovakia by the end of the month

I really love my girlfriend and I'm gonna send her a lot of Oreos in various flavors 🥺 but ssshhhhhh, she's not allowed to know, because we haven't spent hours talking about it and she's not a regular VVN user and she totally won't see this comment 😌

Will forever remember that oooold dream I had back in mid-V3 era or so, where I dreamnt about a guy who owned EVERYONE and even stored the V1s Engloids on special big computers that looked like 1990's or even 1980's-styled ones while the trio released in the 2000's
It's been nearly a year since I bought Pete on Cocaine™, and I've worn him on my work uniform's collar faithfully every day since! Which means he's a little... well, he's seen better days. He also happens to be on sale right now, meaning that I'd pay like $15 to have him shipped to the US rather than the $40 it cost the first time.

But like... is it worth it? Probably not. My current pin still looks fine. Most of the paint chipping is in inconsequential places, and I'm probably the only one who notices. This is likely just me trying to compensate for the fact that he doesn't really have merch, since most BM merch is focused on the cute animals rather than any of the characters, and wanting to hoard anything that's made in the likeness of my boy.

Mmm... Marvelous can't you make a plushie of your most widely recognized protag character or something
Alright, I'm desperate. How do you mix a song that's both really loud and has volume nuances? I've yet to hear a cover of it that's poorly mixed except my own, suggesting that it's not so much that it's a difficult song to mix and that I'm just an unskilled idiot. I've tried the double-compression trick that made Messiah or Desire sound decent enough to get a thousand views, but it's so unpleasant here, and their voices still sound like they're clipping and being squished, which is either completely drowned out by the music, or they themselves drown the music out.

    Help.

I'm not sure what your setup is, but I'm guessing you have a single off-vocal track and multiple vocal tracks? If so, are you sending each individual vocal track directly to the master, or are you first sending them to a vocal bus? The latter definitely makes mixing much easier. (Same for drum bus, guitar bus, etc...)
    peaches2217
    peaches2217
Do you have any resources on how to utilize vocal busses properly? I've never even heard the term before you brought it up, and every last resource I've tried watching or reading operates under the assumption that the watcher/reader knows how to use it.

So far, all I've really learned is "it lets you apply effects and such to and change the volume of multiple tracks at once", which seems helpful, but otherwise not... super groundbreaking? And I know there's more to it than that, I just can't for the life of me figure out what.

EDIT: Actually... the buses just straight-up aren't working. The only way the vocal bus has ANY effect is if I crank it all the way up after sending my vocal tracks to it, in which case the volume increases by a few dB. Turning it all the way down (or any amount at all) does absolutely nothing. Applying plugins to the bus does absolutely nothing. The one fix I found was "disable low-latency monitoring", which did nothing. Maybe it's just me. Maybe I'm not meant to work with music. I dunno at this point.

That's basically what buses do. They allow you to control the volume of specific instrument groups, and even add gentle bus compression to "glue" together the elements. I find it very handy for vocal level automation because I can set-and-forget the relative volume of all individual vocal tracks and vocal effects and then change their overall volume as a group whenever I feel that it has to be adjusted to match the loudness changes in a track.

As for getting it to work in Studio One, there's probably a YouTube video or sixty-five million. But as you've probably learned by now, most of the mixing advice on the internet is just noise. (Mine included.) The key to getting better is doing it again and again, not reading and/or watching. (Although a bit of reading/watching here and there can be useful if you have a very specific question.)
Alrighty, what do we think? This is the most indecisive I've ever been on a custom box...

I bought five new bars of soap at the craft fair today. I was describing the scents of them to Patuk; one I couldn't place a name to, so she asked me how it tasted. Without thinking about it, I licked it.

    My tongue still tingles.
Random fact of the day: my Zoom picture is a really sweet piece of OliLen fanart... that Patuk kindly censored in MS Paint. She did it on my laptop through Remote Control for funsies, and when I went to close out of it, I accidentally saved it over the original piece.

    So I kept it.

Mmmmmmmm... I hunted down a song from an old CD I loved that I thought would be PERFECT for Prima, spent half an hour piecing it apart for LALALAI and back together again in Studio One because the file was so big, and spent another hour sorting out yet another error in Piapro so that I could finally, finally fulfill this wish... and it's out of her range. The song is too fucking low for her, even on low gen.

I'm so sad. It's in Italian and she's my only female Engloid that can give convincing results. :kaito_lili:

Actually... Maika sounds pretty good, if a little intense for this song. But that's nothing I can't fix! I prefer Clara's tone, but Maika's got the extra phonemes I need to make this work. It might not be over yet!

Are there any italian utau that might work?
I decided to come back to EuphoriaHolic and see if the mix makes more sense now that I'm not in crisis over my feelings towards SynthV (long story). And y'know? It does! It's still hell to balance, but it doesn't feel impossible anymore. It's just difficult. But hey, I'm managing! I can't get better without tackling harder and harder projects.
