I don't think this has to do with quality. There are a lot of vocals that sound similar to each other on the same engine (all the bright young feminine vocals that sound fairly similar on VOCALOID, the latest NT demo, some CeVIO AI vocals sound alike). I think it's something you'll find on every engine. It's probably more to do with what companies think will sell, and generally prefer to go with voice types that are similar to ones that have already proven to be successful rather than take risks.

There's also the point about how there are only so many singers with voices that are truly unique but also still sound good, and would be willing to give their voice to a synthesizer program (so they might end up having to compete with the synth version of their own voice).

well, a lot of SynthV ai vbs sound very similar. Rikka, Seika, Tsuina and Karin don't have many differences between each other and SynthV ai vbs in generall just sound pretty, but not unique. ACE (which is very close quality wise to SynthV), has the same problem too with Yi Shiqi, Chu Ci, Unnamed Female, Xiao Ye and Xiao Mo sounding very similar to each other, and it's ai vbs also just being pretty, but not unique. But some ai synth with lower quality does not have the lack of uniqueness as such a big problem, with CeVIO and NEUTRINO having less quality but more uniqueness with it's vocals. This shows that ai's quality can take back the uniqueness to some extend
