  • huh. i had a dream dreamtonics was releasing another Letter voicebank and its name was Xone, a gender neutral english voice.... its colors were yellow and purple
in relation to my status about utaus, i think i may revert to CV banks for now- aside from the work that goes into VCV i am struggling to commit to a VCV because of my voice lol. its been almost a full year on T and i just dont want to put work into a bank and have my voice change too much and have to rerecord- id rather rerecord a CV bank.

i think theres also always some underlying expection in this community that a 'good' utau is one recorded in a format like VCV (or perhaps CVVC but VCV is just normalized a lot) but, i want to put away that expectation so i can actually enjoy working on my utau regardless.

If you feel like a Cv fits better, go for it ! Don't let anyone push you down for going with a simple bank

After all, Cv are fine and can even shine more than fellow types as all depends on recording quality, emotion (don't get me wrong but it's always important and not only for voice-acting) and configurations since you may have a VCV that has a nice quality but sounds meh because the configurations need to be improved or it was recorded with barely any "life" in it (it doesn't mean sounding like an hyperenergetic anime girl high on sugar, it can even be a subtle emotion)

It's like those who want VCV or CVVc because they're more at ease, then they do it, so same should be for CV makers

And just one prime example of a very good CV, well-configured that sure is old but is still pretty impressive :

(There are fresher examples but this one was so impressive back in the time that I still remember it after all those years)

very true! i have heard some real nice CV banks before and honestly ill always prefer a bank that is well configured and easy to use regardless of the type of VB it is.
seeking out people's uses of an xiao of course, trying to see what his range and ability is like bc first impression does feel like a stronger ryo. and boy, this cover... this is nice

he sounds like he handles low range really well.... my negatives about ryo when i got him were that he didnt hndle low ranges very well (and i dont think he sounded very good with GEN used either).. i dont think im gonna buy An because really i have no use for him but, i do hope synth v continues to focus on their lower range stuff because it was Not working very well before

Oh yeah, I think all of them are unique in certain ways, and I like them all. I do like that An Xiao seems somewhat stronger. His lows are really nice!
idk if its just me but whenever it comes to utau and recording i always see ppl talk about how 'easy' it is and seeing people throw up 6 pitch vbs is always surprising to me because honestly? i have never really....enjoyed the process much.... no its not horrendous but, it really isnt *that* easy tbh. i mean, its a lengthy process. even my quickest and sloppiest recordings of a 1 pitch vcv took 45 minutes.... not even including the time to oto it. 45 minutes of staring at my screen and recording samples is not exactly easy nor hard, but just tedious, monotonous...

idk. i always feel like im far behind what i should be doing with utau when i look at others. i do it for fun but it also drains me quite a bit, probably not helped by my innattention (and the natural feeling utau gives of just wanting to see the end results ASAP). id love to do more with it but... everytime i sit down and even record one vcv pitch im just like... god idk when im gonna sit down and do that again. the results are cool but i am finding it hard to branch out to the 'high quality' bank types when they also often take even longer to record.

I kinda gave up trying to record new voicebanks for my UTAU. I have pretty weak lungs and anything other than a simple CV voicebank is just so exhausting to me. Sat there for 3 weeks, recording everyday just to try to finish 1 pitch for a VCV voicebank.. and it's still not done 😭 recording is not easy at all

Omg hopefully I'm not being rude with unsolicited advices 😭 but VCVs are overall a massive pain to record/oto, CVVC is much easier on a person, for an easy one I'd go for this one.

ive grown to quite like the CV voices after some time of finding them easier to record tbh... ive even considered trying to record a CV-like english voice but, at that point understandability becomes harder than it is with japanese which is a shame :/ at this point i may revert to CV entirely with whatever addons i please to make it a little smoother....

i am not even gonna look to see what people of twitter are saying about ci flower. i Love flower i think thats obvious. love her. but i am just a simple guy and she is just a simple singing synthesizer character. dont rly care that much how she changes. if i dont like it? idk. i just. move on.

i can have normal opinions and not go into a fit of rage too you know. thats a thing i can do.... just voice opinions normally lol
since people voted for it on my YT i plan to make a dedicated channel to start posting covers again, since i have made a few here and there. i dont plan to do any fancy videos tho. but ive posted and removed various covers on soundcloud in the last 1-2 years due to the upload limit and i guess itd be nice to just throw them up somewhere more permanent, and since no one uses whypit.
cevio piqued my interest for a moment w english usage but, sasara just sounded like she was using her normal japanese sounds with no real change from if i someone were to have done it manually. like correct me if im wrong it just seems like cevio has a dictionary for english words but not any actual AI usage to make them sing english. if they actually got into AI using knowledge to speak more fluent english id be interested but i dont think thats what theyre doing right now
ive been distancing myself a whole lot from typical social media so thats kinda why my prescense on here is a bit sporadic and i dont say much-- i still check news and stuff i like but thats kinda it. and its been good... i am working on my own website and plan to just reside there and do whatever i want on it. i def like forums still though, but my fixations have been places other than vocaloid so its taken a back seat i guess. but the more i distance from social media the more unbearable it is to return... im glad i feel like i dont need that like before.
god its weird seeing the automated tweets from gynoid going on right now. i mean im surprised they havent just dissolved entirely but i guess having those existing voices to buy means theyll likely remain until those voices are retired, unless gynoid actually picks themselves back up which doesnt seem likely....

i have many onions on cevio flower i dont think i need to voice again. very on the fence with what could come out of it- i liked collecting and loving flower but since the start of the cevio announcement i had no interest in supporting cevio- for various reasons, but mostly just the sound. not sure what flower will come out to be, mostly if gynoid isnt behind her anymore.
O_O ryo just reverted to default synth v beep sound in the middle of a song? huh?

ill try that if it happens again! was strange it happened twice, at two different points. it happened with Ryo but not the others too.

I don’t know if it’s the same issue, but sometimes when I switch singers it randomly retains the previous one in certain points of the track. To get rid of it I simply move one of the affected notes down and up again to let it re-render the part. Shouldn’t selecting the singer solve it for you, you could try doing this too 👍🏻

oh thats something i may try too- it started with the default beep so maybe that happened. i was trying to figure out if there was some way to "rerender" but i didnt think of just moving the notes lol!
synth v stardust has certain grown on me... i think synth v has now brought some things to the table that have really made her move there worth while. tho on the vocal modes, i dont think a lot of them do much difference... cool and sweet sound the most unique i think. and her english (mostly with the cool sound) sounds really nice if not a bit weird in place. definitely love hearing her around
sorry for the double post but i was quick to go plug Ryo in and mess with vocal modes. plugged him into my I'm Yours cover that i did with Solaria, and i am really loving the "resonant" one. 100% Resonant, 30% nasal, 30% clear. oddly hes starting to sound akin to Dex did in the original cover by giantorigami, dex is on the harms towards the ends and they fit very well. the vocal mode really makes Ryo more of a solid toned voice and i am loving that as i can now see him fitting more styles of songs.

    the vocal mode test cover:

    no vocal mode:

this is why im kinda glad i bought ryo instead of kevin-- i mean. he just feels so similar to Kevin tone wise now, and i like that he leans on the softer side in general without the vocal modes. his cross language has some flaws but thats kinda expected. i like hearing kevin but i think synth v has just given me more reason to stick with what i have, which is good
perhaps im not hearing the quality difference with the new synth v update because ive been using speakers lately and not head phones, but i did hear that theres some issues with the new vocal sounds with cross language, which is more of a concern to me... i mean im sure theyll fix the issues, so ill probably just update since i dont use synth v that much right now

also it seems i have all my previous updates set up exe's so, thats good. in case i want to revert
im certainly Around right now but definitely dont expect too much from me in vocal synth stuff, ive just been much more caught up in other things right now... still checkin for news, but thats kind of all i have energy for in between other interests
idk why but im thinking about kaai yuki and how i think above all she does stand as one of my fave vocaloids to listen to. theres a lot to be said about kids voicing things like this but it really is such a unique option to have, nothing really compares to the actual child-voiced vocaloid like kaai.seeing kaai pop up in more genres than what might be typical for her voice type makes me happy
love ryo's english a lot. of course now that i have an appealing male english vocal, i have no idea what to even try and cover with it :') but hopefully ill get some energy for originals again now that i can relax after moving in
for some reason i have been very obsessed with just getting extracted vocals of songs from one good ai separator i use? ive been doing it for a vocalist i adore, her style of singing so unique and nothing i feel i could get close to with vocal synths, so i just study them. its nice hearing the ripped vocals alone because i can focus on all of that- where the voice cracks, where the breathing is, how they enunciate certain parts and dragon certain consonants.

converting it to vocal synth stuff with praat isnt super useful as it shows me that there is much more to the vocals than just the timing of notes and pitch bends- but it can still be fun to compare because it points out to me what the vocal synths still miss that real vocals do.
i made a audio comparison of Chis-a and Flower Talk singing..!

this isnt to "prove" anything but i know im not the only one who was reminded of Flower Talk when i heard Chis-a. I dont think Vocaloid Flower sounds like Chis, vocaloid flower is way more sharp/strong and powerful and theres a bit of a difference in flower's talk voice to her vocaloid so i felt itd make most sense to compare Talk flower to Chis-a. there are some vocaloid flower/chis-a duets already too so i dont think i need to add her here.

flower talk is the more 'robotic' one.

    morrysillusion
    morrysillusion
obviously flower talk isnt supposed to sing so shes robotic and buggy, but i do think her talk does sound way more similar to Chis-a than flower's actual vocaloid bank- probably more due to the fact that the Talk voice is more relaxed. im convinced if flower talk was a singing voice, they'd be way way more similar too, but i can here some uniqueness between them still. but their similarities still make me now think "so why would they want to release flower for cevio if they have chis-a?" aside from character design, if flower's singing bank doesnt fufill the rock centered niche, it seems pointless from a company standpoint unless they really do have faith that flower's character would be enough to sell her again
hmmm i have been using Praat a lot to experiment. wondering if i should make a dedicated thread for it so my main covers thread doesnt just end up being that
