  • Crypton is doing something different with Magical Mirai this year...the projection looks more vivid than the recordings I've seen from prior years, and they keep intercutting AR footage. So you see the vocaloids from behind with the audience in view, from the side standing in front of band members, etc.. I assume they're putting those cutaways on the monitors in person.
    Miku spotted at F.Y.E.!

Just got a pair of studio headphones (Sony MDR 7506). Going to take a bit of getting used to, but wow, that's quite a difference.

The flatter response definitely feels a bit weird when just listening to music (obviously important for mixing), but it also feels like it's easier to listen critically with them. Different elements stand out more, so you can focus on different layers. Not sure if I'd use them for casual listening or gaming (especially since can style headphones hurt my ear cartridge after awhile), but they're going to be a game changer for when I'm playing around in my DAW.
Having fun over the past few days playing with a new arrangement for something. (Brass VSTs are fun...) I need to get back to trying to write lyrics again so I can actually finish some things instead of collecting unfinished pieces. Now that I've got a stressful job interview out of the way I can relax and work on stuff a bit, at least.
This was a huge upgrade. I was using basically the cheapest MIDI controller available on Amazon, and got a good deal on this Arturia Minilab. (It's on sale, with some really nice bonus software...Arturia's software synths are excellent.) Trading a half octave in exchange for semiweighted keys, programmable knobs and drum pads was well worth it. Been enjoying playing around with this a lot for the past couple of weeks, in what limited time I have to spend on music stuff.

I 100% credit Hatsune Miku for my decision to pick up this hobby. Pretty much everything I've picked up about DAWs, synthesizers and music theory (as well as vocal tuning, obviously) I've meticulously learned in the past year. Hopefully I'll have something releasable in the coming months...
