They might've made some advancements since I heard this (which has been like...5-10 years ago?), and I'm sure they do their best, but I thought I heard that earbuds generally have a harder time with bass than larger headphones do. To get the deeper/longer-wavelength sound, they need the larger speaker cones. That's one reason why musicians are advised not to use earbuds when mixing their songs.
That said, I'm sure the earbud-makers are well aware of that and have put some time into getting folks the bass they like, so there's probably something out there that'll work.
Come to think of it, I think I've heard good things about Apple Airpods a few times regarding bass, though. Supposedly, they hold their own at least reasonably well against larger headphones. Maybe look into those?
