  • New favorite genre of Nico content: MMD videos made by people who have blatantly never seen a woman in their entire lives.

Confession: Meiko Dark's one of those VBs I like listening to more than I like using. Give me her Straight and Power banks any day, please. :haku_ibis: But I do love how she sounds for this song! I just gotta figure out how to make her sound less... thin.

My car suddenly crapped out on me last week, and today we finally found the issue: my fucking catalytic converter got stolen. In broad daylight. In the parking lot of my workplace (which is small and usually fairly active, mind you).

Why me? Why MY car? It’s nearly twenty years old! Insurance should cover it, but now I’m paranoid. I hate this 😭

I vaguely remember hearing something about this, though I can't remember where. IIRC, there's a rash of this kind of theft going around, where groups of thieves target specific models of cars to steal their catalytic converters, in order to harvest the valuable metals inside them. Apparently, these groups can be highly coordinated and able to take a converter within a matter of seconds.

Good to know that these guys are devoting their time and energy to the honing of such a useful and world-improving skill, huh? ;)

Anyway, it's not just you--there's a bunch of it going around, as of about a few months ago.

Your workplace probably has cameras in its lot, right? That might help if you wanted to file a complaint with the police. (Or, if there aren't any cameras, that might help explain why the thieves came there.)

Unfortunately we don't have cameras on the parking lot. The best luck we'd have is hoping the Burger King across the street does, but I park so close to the store I work at that I'm not sure how well it would pick up. And I've been reading up on that, and it makes sense... I still have to wonder, what made my car the easiest target? I'm glad it was me knowing that I'm at least covered by insurance, and that it wasn't someone who would've had to pay out of pocket, but still, what an inconvenience. It's a lot better than the blown engine I was fearing though, so I thank God for that!

It depends on how far away it is and the size of the road, but once your car is fixed, you might want to consider parking at Burger King, if they have cameras. If the thieves return and see the same car, obviously with a new converter, I'm wondering if they'd try taking it again.... I don't know how they pick their targets; I assume it has to do with older cars that maybe have higher concentrations of precious metals, or else are maybe less likely to have security systems (for whatever good those do).

As a side benefit, if the distance is safely walkable (e.g., doesn't cross a giant highway), little bits of daily exercise can be really beneficial for your workout routine.
Happy Spooky Season! I got Patuk/Pipp hooked on The Exorcist and honestly I don’t know how we’re gonna top that. It’s only the second day of the month. I always break out the big guns too early. 😅

So! What’s everyone's favorite horror movies?

Last year I watched once one that was nice (it wasn't too horror-ey as in, not being as intense as Semetary (?) ) that was called La Llorada (yes like the Mexican legend)

It was like Shining, aka intense but not to the point it gave me nightmares (and in Shining's case, Jack Nicholson making me laugh with his iconic grimaces + the French voice with its dorky-insane intonations kinda played it down so the only moments where I really feel ill-at-ease/shocked are the bathroom, the skeletons and Danny's getting his soul attacked moments 😅 )
Just about every time I open Vocaloid, Azuki's gone. No one else! Just her. My only guess is that her files somehow get compromised whenever I uninstall any other program (and I'm constantly downloading and uninstalling because I do too much experimentation). Thankfully, all I have to do is run her installer in Repair mode and she's right back where she belongs!

But it's happened so many times that now I've got her installer on speed dial.

The good news is, if ever I'm needing something tedious to keep me occupied but just don't feel up to tuning, I've got a new fallback: rehairing ponies!

That said, that's kinda where I'm at right now. Nothing I do sounds right. I can't blame it on my cold because I'm not sick anymore. Actually, a lot of this stuff sounded better when I WAS sick. Mmm... maybe just another burnout? I'll take a step back for a week or so and see where it leads me!
Going down memory lane for the VSynth Status thread has reminded me once more that I am a hardcore Gakupo/Kiyoteru shipper, and that there is like no content for them that I haven’t already consumed.

I need to finish that one fic. Will anyone like it? No. Will anyone find value in how I characterize them? Also no. But will it give me a sense of satisfaction at having finally completed such a massive WIP and maybe plant the seeds of consideration for this ship in someone else? Highly dubious, but worth a shot!
Every so often I see people complaining about G5 and saying that the toys are low-quality, and when that argument comes up, I always think back to that one Shining Armor bootleg that cropped up on Taobao that looks several times better than any authentic figures that Hasbro ever released of him.

The G5 line looks fine, babes. They haven't pulled something like this yet.

Yeesh. I've been using Ace, VoiSona, and CeVIO AI almost exclusively for the past month, and now I'm returning to Meiko Dark, and... wow. It's amazing how far vocalsynthesis has come in the almost ten years since her release! (Yes that's shorthand for "She's significantly more noisy and jumpy than I remember," shhhhhh)

I'm so happy for the advent of VoiSona and especially Ace in these past several months; they give me the clarity and realism of SynthV AI with the flexibility, character, and charm of Vocaloid and Utau. In the coming days, I'd like to reassess all of my active synths and pinpoint what I like using each one for best. Things have changed a lot in the past year.

For now I'm going to continue wrestling with Meiko Dark, because if I could just get her to say [g a] without her voice randomly going thin she would sound beautiful in this song. :meiko_ani_lili:

From the description, it sounds sort of like how different Kontakt samples in a round-robin can sound different. So changing how the phonemes are requested, while trying to get the same output, might work--maybe try splitting the g and a into two separate notes at the same pitch, right next to each other?

Or it might be related to the phonemes/pitches before/after, in which case adding some space or a Sil before/after might help?

(Either of those might cause its own issue with choppiness, though.)

Just some random, mostly untested thoughts that might help.

If the issue happens the same way consistently at the same spots (i.e., doesn't appear/disappear on different playbacks), that sounds less like a round-robin-type thing and more like it's due to the adjacent notes. Doesn't mean splitting the phonemes won't help. But in that case, you might be able to help the thinness with some effects/EQ--e.g., boost the lower/bass frequencies.
    mobius017
    mobius017
With the EQ, since the issue is in the same spot, you can add an EQ plugin and then automate it to be bypassed or deactivated when you don't need it to fix the trouble spots, so that the rest of Meiko's performance isn't affected.

    peaches2217
Ooh, I hadn’t thought about that! Some EQ trickery might just do the trick. Thank you Mobius! :shirosakiyuudai_lili:
I genuinely think something’s just wrong with my ears at this point. I need to train myself to pay attention to what makes VBs so beloved. Maybe I’ve been blaring my music too loudly again 😅

nono, I think your ears are fine. If this is about the new SynthV voices I don't care at all about Natalie either, she sounds like every other female voice before her. I'm just excited for Yuma since he has a similar voice type to Yohioloid and I've been wanting a clearly adult but high pitched masculine vocal that isn't associated with Yohio for a while lol. He fills the exact niche I've been waiting for

Ah, see that I understand! Like, I get appeals, especially when described outright like you've just done. But I have a habit of casually liking something, seeing people rave over how it's the coolest thing ever, and wondering if my hearing's going bad or if I'm becoming complacent because I just don't feel the same way. I have this bad habit of assuming that, if I don't share opinions with people within my niches, there's something wrong with me. Force of habit 😅 I'm working on rewiring my brain, so this'll make good exercise!

Totally get that, happens to me all the time! Always have to take a deep breath and tell myself it's okay to not like what others like and it's also ok for others to not like what I like, even if it's difficult to not get offended at times haha. You can do it!
I've had one person commenting on several of my KFP works over the past few days, and it's served to light a fire under me once more! I've been trying to write KFP fanfiction again for a while now, but I'm just... not as well-versed as I once was. So I figured I'd start by writing the dumbest exchange possible and trying to build something around it.

    “What’re you doing?”

“Nailing this plank in.” Po could see it now, the tiny nail that became shorter and shorter with each tap of her fist.

    “...with your bare paws?”

“No.” With one more sharp thwack, the nail sunk fully into the plank. “With my tiger paws.”

Somehow, it actually worked: I've got nearly a page and a half of something resembling a coherent narrative. Wish me luck that it keeps up, because I need all the luck I can get with this!
Hmm. Y'know? With some blending of her SynthV and some work in VocalShifter, I think I could make this work.

As it turns out, CeVIO AI Talk is fun for trying to make covers! I might do this more often.

Ugh, FINALLY. Now that I’m just about over my cold, I can get back to working out! I’ll start tomorrow after work. I’ve got a lot of rigorous self-abuse to do to make up for lost time!

I’m probably gonna commandeer my mom’s scale since Planet Fitness doesn’t have any scales. I’d estimate my week off put me back up to 260, and I’d like to be down to 250 by the 10th. Here’s hoping!

don't worry about it at all, peaches :kizakiairi_lili:always take your time:kaito_smile_lili: remember that the best results are those that take time, and one week off is really nothing, it might actually have helped your body to rest and start adapating to new diet and exercises, so again, don't worry and do your best, I know you can do it :miku_sakura_lili:
And because I don't already have enough covers to juggle, I'm now trying to make Maki perform a Broadway patter song. In English. God help me.
I'm in the "Everything Sounds Tinny" stage of my cold, so it's not mixed, but for once I vowed to create an affront to God and actually followed through.

So long as Ace keeps cooperating as well as it's been all night, I'd like to have it published by next week! This is a surprisingly fun song to cover.

Happy one-year anniversary to the day the Zunko Twitter openly mocked people expressing concern over the environmental impact of NFTs! And by extension, happy one-year anniversary to this thing I spent entirely too much time on.

While digging through my Imgur for this image, I also found this, uh, edit I made of Anri, after seeing someone making the argument that "She's an adult with big eyes wearing stylized sailor fuku, that makes her l*li bait/sexually inappropriate". Admittedly I don't remember all the details, but I remember this being cathartic to make, if unsettling (and ultimately choosing not to post it because I didn't wanna fan the flames, but it's almost been a year, I think it should be fine now :clara_ani_lili:).

I was also reminded that Big Al's most often-used design is based off of Abe from Kuso Miso Technique, and that's something I was perfectly happy to have forgotten.

And y'know? With the AWL announcement getting me hyped, why not simp over Pete some more? He deserves it.

God I wish Ace Virtual Singer (er, Ace Studio, technically) was more stable. I tried using it yesterday and it took between 30-50 seconds for playback to begin after hitting Play; now it's not even letting me get into it. It sent me verification codes and then insisted they were the wrong codes, and now I'm locked out because of "repeated fraud attempts".

It would easily be one of the best editors available if it was just STABLE.
In which Peaches gets fed up with Studio One, decides to give Reaper an honest shot, and accidentally stays up until five in the morning because it's been a while since she's had this much fun mixing

I kind of go back and forth between the two, because they're both good at different things. I much prefer the MIDI editor in Studio One, but REAPER offers so much in terms of routing, mixing and built in plugins.

Studio One's inability to take an arpeggiator on a track (unless you have the higher tier version and use the included one) is also bizarre, when every other major DAW can do that. You have to do some weirdly clunky channel routing.

Uh oh, it looks like Reaper finally clicked with someone. Could this be a sign of the end times?

One thing about Reaper is if you don't like how something behaves, there's likely a way to change that behaviour. Which is kind of a problem because since I've started using Reaper I've gradually added so many tweaks that if my SSD were to fail and I had to reinstall Reaper from scratch I'd lose so many customizations that I wouldn't know where to begin. (That was a long sentence. Maybe there's a Reaper extension that can fix it.)
