@Legally Pipp Petals i think the reason im so mad is cause i had tickets to miku expo 2020 and after it got cancelled they never brought live concerts back to the u.s. and now im seeing all this "crowdfund our online concert!!!" like its the same and its not and my heart is BROKEN i was so close i HAD TICKETS :kaito_lili:

i wasnt gonna be too harsh on the 2021 online concert cause it was literally the only choice during covid, but i had generally found it underwhelming and...dare i say it...not worth crowdsourcing? like everyone was like "isnt it so nice for crypton to do this for free!!" yeah its an mmd video with prerecorded music slapped over it like???
but like i said....
im mostly just mad because irl miku expo was so close to being in my hands and then god kicked me in the stomach down a flight of stairs

It is a possibility that it is still due to covid. There are many places (China, ahem) that still have strict guidelines. The VR may be a precaution.

@cafenurse It was the same with me, I was supposed to see it in my city but it was cancelled permanently after the second or third attempt at a rescheduling. I was so excited. It was the first time in years it visited us despite us being the biggest city in the midwest and it was set to be in my favorite theatre/venue I saw my first ever concert at. I lost out on a lot of "coming of age" experiences during the height of COVID, but so did everyone in my demographic I think. I try not to think about it too much.

I'm all for new and cool ways to connect with people online but usually these corporate VR things are just sanitized virtual worlds with some animations playing. Aside from the general disinterest communities that aren't already integrated in VR have in VR concerts, there's the problem of VR itself still not something inside everyday people's homes and the cheap solutions looking pretty horrible. I wonder how this will effect the pre-shows for DJs and producers that don't have equipment for recording tracking and the like? Maybe they'll bring them in somewhere?

I will say though that the 2021 live concert did have some real technical value and I don't think it's quite fair to call it 'just an MMD'. The tracking and lighting that sets up the 3D model in physical space with free-moving cameras is a pretty complex system. It's seen use in high-budget music stuff in the past few years before, but only in high-budget music stuff. So that crowdfunding made sense to me, as well as the necessity of paying the live band, animators, etc, which is always comprised of really huge VOCALOID fans that are also very talented musicians. If they hadn't played the wrong version of Ungray Days and hadn't filled the thing with advertisements, it might've been better overall.

But yeah there's just no replacing in-person concerts. I'd still do anything to see MIKU EXPO in person, but I wonder if it'll ever happen. That does make me really sad.
