  • I stumbled across Godot today and it looks much easier to understand than Unity. I’ve wanted to try making games for a while, but Unity reminded me of 3ds Max and I didn’t want to go near it.(I tried using 3ds Max back in 2012 and it made like no sense to me. I switched to Blender and it was amazing how well it worked with the way my brain functions.) Maybe that’s something I can do while not being able to use Vocaloid right now.

I hate 3Ds Max with burning passion lol, they tried teaching it to us in school, I did some work in Blender and it did come more naturally to me ( even while with it's old UI )

I really love Godot. I understand why it isn't being favored for production applications the same way Unity is, but I think it's severely underrated.
There’s this tuning style that’s going around, that I believe originated with vbs like Gahata Meiji and Kire vbs, and I’m having a hard time enjoying covers because of it. Don’t know how to explain it, but there are all of these covers from different people that sound like they have the same tuning and it is driving me nuts trying to find new tuners to listen to. :/
Edit: I just realized that I made it sound like some sort of contagious disease. lol
This is me realizing that if my laptop hadn’t broken in 2013 and/or I’d been able to purchase a desktop pc and a wacom in 2016, I wouldn’t have had to give up 3d modeling and would be able to make some wilted models by now.(I ran into tweets from a 3d modeler who I remember being in the mmd community, and being slightly ahead of me skill wise, back when I was there and now they are making models for vtubers. :/) Drawing still doesn’t make sense to my brain a lot of the time, but the 3d stuff was so much easier on my brain.
I am thoroughly convinced that Crypton will not actually ever release the rest of the Cryptonloids on Piapro NT and that the software will be solely used for Project Sekai.(partially sarcasm) It’s kinda sad what Crypton is doing with their products, especially given how Miku and co have basically become the face of vocal synthesizers.

Yeah I'm not expecting V6 vbs from them 😔 it's really just a fantasy of mine that I don't put any weight behind.

The silence on the software department reminds me of the silence period so to say in 2020, I bet there's something in store.

Speaking as a software engineer by profession: developing software this complex is a massive endeavor, and the scale of Crypton and Yamaha are not even comparable. I thought it was very ambitious for them to even attempt Piapro NT. I'm impressed with what they managed to pull off, but it's very clear they bit off more than they could chew. NT is still effectively an iteration on where VOCALOID was seven years ago, and whether it's even as good is subjective, while Yamaha has taken great technological leaps beyond that. They're effectively burning a lot more resources reinventing a much smaller wheel, and underserving their customers in the process. Not only is there a lack of progress on bringing the other voice banks over, there still isn't any English support (while V6 has next level multilingual support) and hovering uncertainty about V4X on some platforms. (The Mac transition from Intel to ARM raises many concerns.)

The excuse that they desire a less realistic and distinct style than V5 and V6 produce doesn't really fly, as users desire different styles and Yamaha could absolutely accommodate them through their existing partnership. The classic V2-V4 sound comes, at least to my ear, from an ADSR envelope that is just a touch too slow to mimic human sounds (if you listen to Bee and Puppycat, it really sticks out) and less seamless blending to the notes, which is already something you can exaggerate by changing the pitch snapping parameter. Given V6's multitude of style options, and Yamaha's more intimate knowledge of the behind the scenes workings, there isn't really a reason they couldn't have a "classic Vocaloid" mode.

Japanese companies tend to not play the hype game as much as in the US, and are prone to just dumping unannounced products out (see also: Vocaloid 6), but I have a gut feeling we're due for something major now that we're moving past some of the COVID-induced productivity losses. It probably stings a little for them to see Gumi V6 leapfrog Miku so prominently. (Sorry for the double post, but I ran into a character limit and didn't want to end that abruptly :P)
Yo, Miku preformed on stage with Aqours! It looks like they got the company behind PriPara to do the CG.

@pico The seiyuu were hired to voice the characters in anime/games/music as well as to like become the live action counterparts. They perform in concerts/live streams/etc as themselves, but kinda as the characters too, while sharing a fan base with the characters and having separate fan bases. (Been a fan since 2012, but actually having a hard time trying to explain the franchise. lol)
Edit: and yes, Aqours was hired with the explicit notion that they were to become full fledged idols. I believe that when Love Live was started no one thought it would take off the way it did, so the formation of the first group, Muse, was different.

@WyndReed right?? explaining Love Live is so difficult, it's something you have to experience to really get it haha

Interesting! Thanks. This makes more sense. I forgot that Muse was the first group. It makes more sense now that the actors afterwards would be hired with all of this in mind!
Chis-A english is a paid subscription. T_T nooo

Honestly, I think it’s pretty fair! Their reasoning for the paid subscription model is reasonable (VPs get continued monetary gain for their contributions, and in turn the VBs can be fed new data and updated freely and quickly as technology improves), and the option of a monthly subscription makes her an even better, more affordable option for people who might only use her a few times.

Oh yeah I know. It was more a reaction to getting a bunch of news about products that cost money yesterday and I don’t have any to spend. It was just a pipe dream that she’d be a free vb.(I’m also not very good with subscriptions, cause I never know when I’ll be able to work with the products.)
Atelier Marie remake, new Professor Layton, and Chis-a english!! I’m so excited! (Now all Nintendo has to do is create Style Savvy for the switch)
As much as I've been enjoying playing video games to fill my brain while I can't work, I'm really reaching a place where I just need to be in a space where I have a desk and can work on stuff. It's just really frustrating to be crammed into such a small space for so many years and have to stay up crazy hours just to get some peace.(The staying up started because of long covid, but it's partially become just needing some time to not be stressed out by everyone else's stress and to be alone. Even though it means I can't work because it's too late and I have chores to do.)
I've been getting some bits where my brain is working, but I can't handle the stress/upset and time suck that is unpacking things I need to work, only to get an hour in and packing it all up again. This calculation does include being interupted by my mom, asking me for input on legal issues that she is working on (I have some understanding of the law, but really she needs a lawyer friend or someone who understands the law to talk to), on a frequent basis and me having to actually clean any surface I use everytime I use it because the cats sit/walk/eat on every surface(except the kitchen counter) and my lapdesk sits on the floor which has mold growing in it.
I really really really want to move on. I've been stalled for four years and I am sick of seeing everyone else's lives be able to move on except for mine.(no digs at anybody here)
I finally have a goal for myself that I believe is relativly obtainable(vtubing/streaming) and am finally starting to feel a bit better about my abilities as a vocal synth user ,but there are so many hurdles that are put in place by other people which are keeping me treading water instead of being able to focus on working on creative projects.(which keep me sane)

I'm kinda... not surprised. Stuff kept getting cancelled and "Anime Entertainment LLC" is a ghost online. The whole project just came out of nowhere, was scheduled for an absolutely incredible number of venues, and as a result I was a little worried about the outcomes. I was excited for Gumi, KZN and a couple of other familiar faces to come to my hometown, but something felt a little off. I guess we'll see how it goes elsewhere. Maybe it'll be a great success.

Yeah it was a bit odd, but I was hopeful that it would work out. A friend had bought tickets and they were cancelled a week or two ago, so I figured that a wholesale cancelling was coming. :/

Tfw you are listening to a cover and it sounds really good, but there’s something missing and you realize there are no harmonies at all. It’s not even my cover and I still feel pain for the person who created it. It’s hard to hear because it has multiple voices, but there is this richness in the chorus that is missing. I think that I’ve somehow become a harmony snob T-T
So Love Live SIF is shutting down at the end of March. :/ (Honestly though, I’m having a blast playing it again)
I knew it was coming, but the roll out feels rushed. I get the feeling that Klab knew it was coming soon and prepared some stuff for it, but Bushiroad suddenly announced that it was the end. Hopefully the SIF2 livestream on the 9th will provide more details on what will transfer over.

I'm still devastated over the news, especially because all the stuff that would carry over to SIF2 won't carry over for me just because they don't want to comply with EU laws... now I'm trying to figure out how to save my stuff. So much trouble just because they're rushing 😭 I don't want my decade old account to vanish into nothing...

They are blocking anyone who has ever used an EU IP address to access the game, even via VPNs or while someone is on vacation. It is insane. I just ran into a post on reddit and some people are trying mass emailing bushiroad to get them to change.

yeah.. I'm in a Love Live discord and a group is trying to figure out if there is ANY way to get around this. I hope they find a way or klab hears us.. sigh
So um is no one going to talk about what 1st place is doing with IA on tiktok??? Like how did she agree to do those videos? Someone talk to her agent. TikTok
My mom’s been rewatching Nashville and I totally forgot how good the music is. Like actually listenable country music.

Why are people still getting on Gwen Stefani about cultural appropriation?? I don’t get it. It’s clear that she is a fan of Japanese culture(especially Harajuku culture), but I don’t see how that’s any different from so many people I’ve met online that are regarded as totally okay. Edit: It turns out that people in Japan actually don’t care about this as much as westerners do.

With the caveat that this kind of outrage on the part of groups like asian americans can be justified, in this specific instance the anger seems to be coming from the decontextualization of what she said. Headlines, baiting for outrage, quoted her solely as saying "my god, I'm Japanese!" but the full quote reveals that she wasn't trying to imply that she literally felt like she was Japanese or that she wanted to become Japanese a la weeaboo stereotype of old, but that she thought her contact with Japanese culture in early life influenced her feeling comfortable when she first visited Japan. I barely know who Gwen Stefani is so I have nothing in this for or against her. The way she said it was unfortunate, but if it hadn't be snipped out of the larger quotation, I doubt people would be acting like this.

The people that lash out and get angry, and the people that lash out at those who originally got angry... all of them feed engagement and page views, and make the big guy money. Algorithmically served content and Google AdSense has literally weaponized our human disposition against us.
