I still haven't watched it, but I like to think of it as the n.3 in the series, with Super Mario Bros being the 1993 live action movie, and Super Mario Bros 2 being the 1986 anime. If you haven't watched them, the anime has that wonderful chara design and animation of the classic anime of the '80s, and the live action movie is a must. many people hate it, many people love it, it's just incredible Nintendo allowed it (is very dark movie and not really for children), to me is perfection φ(゜▽゜*)♪

I’m familiar with them! I’m in the crowd that finds the 1993 movie painful to sit through personally 😅 but on its own, when divorced from the fact that it’s supposed to be a Mario movie, I think it’s a decent movie! Just… not for me, personally. I do like the anime though! Given the entire series was still in its infancy at the time of its release, I think it’s exceptionally well-made. The new movie actually takes a few tonal beats from it too!

Mario’s always been a lowkey special interest for me, so I’ve been eating good recently. 😂

I watched the Rifftrax of the live action movie, and tbh I kinda enjoyed some parts of it as it leaned very close towards the 'so bad it's good' banner. But as a Mario adaptation, it really is awful lol.

Has anyone here watched The Mario Super Show and Super Mario World? I watched the heck outta those as a kid and collected the DVDs. Only the animated segments for The Mario Bros Super Show though, I didn't know about the live-action segments (like this one where the Mario Bros teach Mikhail Gorbachev how to make pizza) until I was older, except for the DO THE MARIO sequence since that was the credits sequence. I even did a vocal synth cover of Do the Mario once, but with Marie Ork in her metal voicebank.
