  • Will certain companies still offer you an import tool to import V2 voicebanks into V3 so you can use them in Piapro? Because I'm reeeeeaaaaally considering getting Tonio or maybe Sweet Ann. But I've also read that V2s won't work on operating systems above Windows 7/8, and I'm running Windows 10. I just don't wanna pour out money for something I can't even use is all, and my attempts to search for answers via Google and this forum hasn't been all that fruitful, maybe because I just don't know where to look.

@DefiantKitsune see, that's what I'd read here, but the Vocaloid website says you can't do that. I just wanted to be extra cautious, because I'm a dumb-butt that questions even the most obvious of things. Please forgive me.

"So the whole "you have to buy the editor separately" thing didn't happen until V3? "
That's right! V2 Editors and V1 Editors came with their voicebanks respectively

As for the import tool, that's an interesting case. If I recall well, I recall people using it even this year. I suppose rather, Yamaha is just not handing it out. But Zero-G might still be. Hm, interesting indeed!

Thank you guys so much for putting up with my ignorance. I actually found the V2 Import Tool - it was tucked away on Zero G's website as an alternative in case the one on the Vocaloid website was taken down (which, of course, it has been). So I've got everything I need now. Thank y'all so much!
Several Vocaloids are on sale at Big Fish Audio, including Dex, Daina, and Avanna!
I'm feeling pretty useless right about now. I'm having trouble making this cover I'm working on sound good - it sounds alright, but whenever I try to make it really GOOD, it just sounds like I'm trying too hard, because it's a fairly straightforward song. So to divert my attention, I'm trying to work on more fanfiction, but nothing's happening. I'll type up a sentence or two and then I'm stuck, at a loss. Which, really, I'm a writing major, I have no reason to not be able to write some measly Vocaloid fanfiction.

How do people do it? How are people good at Vocaloid and good at writing? I wish I could be good too.

Maybe throwing myself into my Spanish homework will help take my mind off of it for a while. At least I'm decent at Spanish.

You probably need to give that cover a break and come back to it with fresh ears. Having trouble with writer's/music block doesn't mean you're bad at writing/music, it's just either a tough project, not enough inspiration, or you're in a slump. I hear some artists like to switch between around 2-5 pictures so they don't get burned out by the same one, so maybe if you try rotating projects it wouldn't be so stressful. There's no deadline to finishing your cover anyway, right?

That's what I'm thinking. It's just that these two things are really the only things I'm any good at, so I'm especially hard on myself when I'm in a slump. Being unable to fall back on writing, I'm really not sure what else I can do in the meantime.

I read some advice somewhere that you should be wary of trying too hard in your music. Unfortunately, I forget exactly where I saw it, but the gist of it was basically that sometimes it's best to keep things simple--don't add TOO many instruments/make things TOO crazy with effects or whatever. It was for exactly the reason you mentioned--doing things the right amount can sound good, but if you go overboard it ends up sounding messy or something similar. That advice might not be exactly applicable to your case, but the general principle might. So, like @uncreepy said, maybe step away for awhile, and when you come back to it, approach it from an attitude of restraint--make little adjustments to make little things that much better, and gradually work up toward the point where it sounds like it's getting to be too much. And when that point comes, stop.

Regarding the block, bearing in mind that I'm only really a hobbyist at writing or music creation, I'd recommend that you only work when you're inspired. And when you are, jump on it and go all out. 95% of the time, trying to create when it doesn't feel right doesn't work for me. It might not work as well for a professional writer or musician, but that's why I say to only create when your mind and emotions are on board with it.

With inspiration being the key, just being a writing major isn't going to necessarily mean that you *should* be able to create a fanfic at the drop of a hat. It comes when it comes and when you're ready for it.

I hesitate to say it, so don't read too much into it, but it might make sense to reevaluate the new fic you're thinking of writing, too. If you're not really feeling like making it, it might be a sign that you don't really believe in the idea. Of course, it's perfectly possible to be stuck as to how to accomplish an idea you think is great, too, so like I said, don't read too much into this. Just be sure it's an idea that you really believe in and think can come out well when it's done, and it's not something you're making because you feel for whatever reason that you have to. (Unless, of course, for some reason, you really DO have to.)
Every time I can't find a VSQx or an off-vocal for a song I really, really want to cover, I can't help but think that's God telling me to stop being so flighty and finish the covers I've already got going.

But, God... Star Light. It'd be so perfect for what I've got planned. Just give me that much, please.
I gave up on Piapro and switched my current cover back over to V4. It was a noble effort, but I ultimately failed.

Actually, I like Piapro itself. It's just that I'm so used to V4 that that's what I'm most comfortable using. My computer doesn't run Piapro very well, so hopefully I can figure out a way to make it work by the time Crypton releases their new updates!
You know, as frustrating as making Oliver sing in Japanese is, I've learned a whole lot that I didn't pick up on last time I did this! Most notably, he tends voice his consonants earlier, so if you want to make him match up to a Japanese singer, you have to adjust his velocity. Also, his [k] works a lot better for the Japanese [g] sound than both his [g] and his [gh] sound, because it's softer than [kh] but not as guttural as [gh].

Now to figure out how to make Len sound softer without sounding completely muted. His Cold and Serious voicebanks are TOO soft for this song, so I tried turning down the brightness on his Power voicebank, and that's working fine... but now he's even quieter than Oliver, who's notoriously quiet, and when I turn him up every other consonant sounds harsh and electronic.

    Tasukete.

If you're using Piapro Studio (or Vocaloid 4) to tune Len, I recommend XSYing his power with cold and playing with the configuration a bit for him to sound softer, but not too soft. Hope this helps! ^^
Also, that info about Oliver's consonants is pretty interesting! :O

@RoboCheatsyTM Actually, that was the first thing I tried. It usually works (I used that configuration for a section of a cover of Wine Berry and it turned out SO WELL), but it didn't work in this instance, interestingly enough. If I XSYnthed it enough to make his voice match up with Oliver's but still have the light, driving, almost bouncy quality I was looking for, it makes most of his words sound fine, but his vowels suddenly drop and he sounds like he's singing with a mouthful of food during a cold. It's odd. I think I've mostly got it figured out (it'll take some heavy dynamic work and some post-editing in FL), but all the easy fixes just. Didn't work this time. :ring_ani_lili:
Me, 24 hours ago: "Man, it's been so long since I made Oliver sing in Japanese! I wonder why."

Me, right now, having to manually edit each and every phoneme in each and every syllable to make his pronunciation sound even halfway correct, only halfway through a four-minute song without having done a single bit of tuning: "Ah. That's why."
My hair, when styled correctly, is a dead-ringer for Meiko. So my friend talked me into dressing up as her for Halloween! Now to find a red vest and matching skirt in my size within the next month. That'll be the hard part; no one makes short skirts and cute vests for girls my size, heh.
I've been saving up to get Gumi's V4s, and I've finally hit my goal... but I still don't have a job because no one will hire me due to my upcoming surgeries, so I'm gonna have to save that money for gas and groceries and emergencies. It's a bit of a bummer, but that gives me more incentive to work harder!
