  • I gave in. Welcome, Dex and Tonio!

The only downside to purchasing directly from Zero G's website is that their download method is incredibly complicated. Plus it's manual, and I have no idea where voicebanks are stored. Sooooo this'll be fun! I'm gonna just download them to the file I keep all my voicebanks arranged in pre-download and hope for the best.

Congrats on the new Vocaloids!! :kanon_lili:

It worked! Note: do NOT try to run two downloads at a time. Let one download finish before starting another. From there, it's as simple as accessing the .rar/.zip files and running each setup!
So the post-surgery pain is in full swing, and it's severe enough I can't make it to school. So on top of being unable to write and drive and having trouble typing and using Vocaloid, I can hardly even get off the couch! Yay!

It'll be worth it in the long run, I know, but I'm about to fall out from both boredom and pain. Not fun, heh.

I think there was something that you can use for your writing problems. People that can't write for important reasons can use something that translates their spoken words into text. : O
    ......
I guess like speech-to-text type....You might have to do more research on it, but I don't know if Words has it or another writing program/app.

The only issue there is that my hand will be fine to write with in two or three weeks; the programs that aren't glitchy cost an arm and a leg, which aren't worth investing in for a short-term issur, and using free or cheap software will ultimately be as time-consuming and error-ridden as the one-handed typing I'm doing now. It's not detrimental, just annoying. Forgive my rants. I write so much that I get crabby when I can't, heh.

One other idea would be to use the speech-to-text feature of your smartphone, if you have one. Though correcting any mistakes it might make might be just as time-consuming as just typing it out yourself.
Going through some unfinished covers, I found a Meiko cover I'd done of R-Shitei from a Black Butler musical my former friend loved. It's so good, it fits her voice so well, but there's not a single off-vocal of it and the acapella arrangement I attempted just sounds horrific. So it's indefinitely in limbo.

Actually, I covered two songs from that musical - the other was Unmei, which I used Gakupo and Kiyoteru for. (I actually made it as a Christmas present for said former friend, because both of us loved that song... aaaaaand she didn't like it, because the end result didn't sound EXACTLY like Matsumoto Shinya and Taisuke Saeki. Nevermind all the effort that went into it...)

I made a piano rendition of Unmei's track in FL to go with the cover, but it got lost when I transferred everything to my new laptop back in January. But it was fairly simple, all in all, so once I've got control of both hands back I'd like to revive and revise it!

I just... wish I could save R-Shitei, too. IT WAS SO GOOD. TT.TT

I LITERALLY GOT KIYOTERU BECAUSE HE SOUNDS A LOT LIKE SHINYA. I do my best not to hold grudges, it's been nearly a year, and I was gonna get him at some point anyway, but COME ON.
Has anyone used Mirai Komachi? I love her voice and am tossing around gettig her once I'm within my means, but I don't think she has a trial, and unless a Vocaloid is on sale, I prefer to know what to expect before dropping money on a voicebank.

Hi! I have Mirai and I think shes' pretty good IMO. Shes pretty HQ for the type of voice she is, and relatively easy to use. She also is super reactive to the GEN factor, so if you +20 gen (or so) you get her sounding like CUL and -20 (or so, gotta mess around with it) she can sound like Rin. So in just that case shes pretty great cuz its almost 3 voices in 1. She again, is also super easy to use and super HQ.

Thanks for mentioning me in this @uncreepy !

Is there a way to download Nico audio? The Chrome extension doesn't work, and what few websites work only let you download the video, not just the audio. I'm trying to download the off-vocal for a potential cover. It's not on Piapro, either.
My surgery went off without a hitch! My arm's still numb, and it's in a very clunky and awkward cast that goes up to my armpit and will be staying on for at least two weeks. But they left my fingers unwrapped, so within a day or two I'll be cleared to write/type again! (Which, being a writing major, is a massive relief.)
Fwooooooo... wish me luck. I'm getting surgery tomorrow, and it's gonna leave my dominant hand basically useless for a few weeks.
Has anyone ever played Love Nikki? First of all, please play it, it's so good, and two, I'm guilty of constantly making Vocaloids in it. (In the rare instances I elaborate on what characters are wearing in my fics, I always consult LN and build an outfit for them in there. It's so much fun.)

Apparently the Japanese version of the game actually did a collab with Crypton where you could get Miku and the Kagamines' outfits and hairstyles, but it's unlikely to ever come to the NA server, so... Future Girl Green, Rice Butterfly, and Similar Blond Brother it is. TT.TT
*quietly shoves 1LDK, Black Hole Artist, and This is a Love Song under my couch* I wanna use Avanna for a cover! She's got such a lovely alto, but so many songs I've listened to mostly just use her higher range. What's a good song that will show off her low range? I'm thinking about having her sing the English cover of Jougen no Tsuki (mostly because the Japanese version has been stuck in my head all week), but while she sounds great on the chorus from what I've tested, the verses might go a bit low for her.

Hm, I'm not sure but people like using Luka in her lower ranges right? Maybe try looking into some Luka originals.
Anyone whose Japanese is better than mine wanna help me out? I got this comment on my Meiko cover of Allegra on my Nico:

    おつ !「再生」や「生きてるおばけは生きている」、とかもできませな?

I'm getting the vibe of "Will you do one of these songs next?" (they're also Utsu P songs like Allegra), but I'm not entirely sure.

From my understanding: "Good work! Can you also do "Playback"(再生) or "Living Ghost is Alive"(生きてるおばけは生きている ), or something like that?"

Oh! Thanks for telling me about cute Mikurin song!

Good luck with the cover! I'm looking forward to it.
I posted about it in the Vocal Synth Sales Thread, but in case that gets buried: Big Fish Audio is having a store-wide 20% off sale! That means that the Miku bundle or the Rin/Len bundle, normally $200, are now $160, on top of the sale applying to all other Vocaloids available through their site!

Dang it, why didn't they have this last year? This was around the time I got Kaito and Meiko. I coulda saved. :'(
To distract myself from my writer's block, I've been working on uploading my works to Nico. I think I've already got more views on my videos there than I do on all my YouTube videos combined. I even got a comment! (Something to the effect of "8888888 upotsu"). I'm really happy!

I'm about to straight-up throw my laptop against a wall (or at least set it gently on the couch and let the cats use it as a bed in petty retaliation). I can't write. Nothing will come. I go between projects hoping trying something new will jog my creativity but it won't. I have to write. If I don't create, I don't exist, or at least I shouldn't.

Maybe I should go drive to clear my head. Maybe go binge on biscuits at Western Sizzlin' until something presents itself. Surely this isn't permanent.

Don't push yourself too hard and don't stress too much. Sometimes you'll get all-around creativity block, and when that happens sometimes its best to break for a while. You'll usually come back with a renewed interest in what you're doing and feel creative again.
    I know that feel. XP

I always had issues with writer's block back when I used to write fanfiction as a teen. (School and home stress always affected my writing abilities), and I still get it sometimes at uni when I have to write essays because I sometimes still struggle to put down what I want to say in the best way. (Also, trying to reword a really good reference that doesn't need to be quoted word-for-word in a way that doesn't trigger the plagiarism detector. :P)

Definitely take a break from whatever you're writing and come back to it later. On average, when I'm writing essays, I only do around an hour and a half/two hours of work a day (unless I'm feeling really productive, then I do another couple hours' work in the evening), because my brain can't handle constant intellectual work. (Even though history is my main writing passion, I still get burnout from it sometimes). Taking a good break helps me relax, and sometimes it helps me jump right back into a piece of writing knowing what I want to say, which avoids the stress of constantly thinking about it while stuck.

Maybe it would help you to have a look at this article: To Tap Into Your Creativity, Try Diffuse Thinking. It talks about the different ways people think, and how the focused approach we use when we're under stress is absolutely the worst for creativity.

I think the drive sounds like a good idea, actually. Forcing your mind to do something focused on anything but what you're trying to create while not being too taxing seems like it might help. Good luck!
I would just post this as a reply to my last status update, but this is important enough to warrant its own status:

On the registration page for Internet Co's Vocaloids, Google Translate renders Gakupo's name - on the same page, mind you - as Gakupoido, Gakupudo, and Gakupokudo. I don't know why I find that so funny, but I can't stop laughing.
I forgot to transfer the breath WAVs for several of my Vocaloids, so I'm going through and re-loading their files so I can get that taken care of. And I just figured something out: Kiyoteru's V4s come with a free trial of the V4 editor! Kinda trivial, but still pretty neat. (He comes with a pretty cool music editing software too, but since I don't really make my own music I've never tried it out.)
How do y'all make Luka V4X sound not so... synthetic? I don't really know how to put that, but whenever I use her, no matter what I do, no matter how much I tinker with the parameters, she sounds horrible. Is it just my lack of experience shining through or is this a problem other people have?

EVEC tends to be pretty choppy from what I've heard (haven't touched it)

Though I love Crypton's vocals, I absolutely despise E.V.E.C.. Like what DefiantKitsune said, it tends to produce choppy results (esp. on Miku v4x Solid). I don't know how well it works for Luka, but I know from a few attempts at using it that it's useless for the Kagamines.
I think Piapro's manual explains it a little bit, and then there's a decent article on the wiki, I think. Outside of those I haven't seen much on it.

Luka's is usually considered the worst of the three.
I've fallen hard for Synth V. Limited though the options and controls are, it's all so smooth, and it's a lot easier to gauge what changes I'm making. Plus the Japanese voices (all two of 'em) are surprisingly versatile. I'm starting on another cover!
Aaaaaaaaah how do I make userbars? I wanna make some for the Meiko fanclub, but 1.) I don't have Photoshop and 2.) the online makers I've found have really vague instructions.

I've tried making my own, but they all look like absolute $hit, especially compared to everyone else's on their fanclubs. That's what happens when someone who has zero talents tries to create, I get that, but I'm still frustrated. Can I please be good at just one thing? Just long enough to make a freaking userbar? I'd love to be good at something. I wonder what it's like.

I have made all my Userbars in Pixlr online editor! It's a photo editor with a lot of tools like Photoshop and it's pretty easy to learn. You can mess around with different sizes, maybe start with 300x20 and go from there! I can also help make one sometime~
