  • Not even November & i'm already researching the annual Black Friday post. If there was any place I skipped last year were you can get vocaloid merch on sale on BF, let me know in the the replies.
Project Sekai seems to be an interesting one. If i'm understanding it correctly, the games before used to mostly focus on the Piapro characters & songs but now it's also focused on the creators/creatives behind behind vocaloid content (even though the creatives are fictional characters in the game).

I could be a tiny bit off, but that would be an interesting concept even if it wasn't in that game.
The 5th anniversary of Miku's performance on David Letterman's show is coming up next week

Oh gosh I remember being really excited to watch it and then at the end going to the thread on VO and seeing a bunch of people hated it

I remember the salt over that performance as well.

Wow, thanks for reminding me. I was one of the people who recorded it, went to watch it, and hated every cringey minute of it.
I was thinking about this morning how CFM could potentially give away their new synth & voices for free because they saw how piracy of vocaloid in China did very little overall harm to VSinger's success.

Although companies like CFM & VSinger (although it's technically part of Bilibili now) would have the resources to release a free synth & easily make up the cost in other ways, I can't help but think how it could mess up their competitors who could not make a similar move.

I would be extremely surprised if they gave us anything additional for free (we got Nektar so far). An official Crypton blog post said that there would be "an exclusive sale" for owners of Crypton Vocaloids next year ( Cryptonloid voicebank updates, collabs, & concert news (crypton_wat Twitter translations) ), so that implies it's not the 5 finger discount. I do think it's possible the updated Crypton voice banks could be cheaper than before if Yamaha's not involved. But when I think of the prices by competitors, it seems like the industry standard (for Vocaloid, CeVIO, Synth V) is around $80 for one voice bank.

Yeah, when you think about it, Crypton's voicebanks are already pretty cheap: Miku's $200, but that comes with 5 voicebanks (6 if you got the English bundle), which makes her ultimately about $40 per voiecbank ($34 with the English voicebank). Rin and Len's Japanese and English voicebanks are $200 all together, which makes their individual voicebanks $25 a piece. Like @uncreepy said, individual voicebanks from other companies still tend to be pricier, so when crunching the numbers Crypton's already ahead.

Heck, even if they took that approach of selling voicebanks individually, they wouldn't even have to change their pricing and they would still be considered crazy cheap.

Also, most of the pirating producers ended up buying Tianyi later, and it was even something to be ashamed about.

Crypton's vocaloids are still fairly expensive, even if they only offer one bank though; Miku Vivid is almost $90.
Thanks to Sam Jackson, I wonder who will be the next famous person to give a voice to a talking or singing program
Turns out that GLAM didn't end up souring Big Hit on the idea of forming new girl groups

The girl group is almost 99% going to be managed by Source Music, who are now a BigHit subsidiary. They originally formed GLAM with BH as partners but were recently bought by BH. Seems that SouMu will handle all girlgroup-related stuff while BH handles boygroups. GLAM definitely did turn BH off handling girlgroups and that's why they're getting SouMu to handle it.
If CFM is going to release their own engine, CV04 is most likely going to happen. Between 6 different characters they started with all way back in v1/2, there are some obvious gaps of voice types that aren't in their roster. Kinda curious if they would allow third party banks on it.

i feel like at this point CVO4 wouldn't have any interest.
Especially considering the track records for dudes.

(although tbh, I doubt they'll make their own engine personally.)
When I said last year real time controlled avatars for voca concerts would be the next step, you ignored me. Then Bandai Namco & CFM announced plans to use that technique. When I said a few months ago in a journal that projection mapping could be used for voca performances, a few folks here scoffed at the notion. Now Bandai Namco is using projection mapping on a robotic head...
