After the first knock, I waited until I thought they were gone and closed the curtains, just to make it clear that our house is barren. I then heard a very distinct "BITCH!" and then footsteps. I'm not a Halloween hater. I just don't have any candy!
Now that sounds like something straight out of a bad comedy movie but yea, that was pretty damn rude of them. Even if you had candy it's not like they're entitled to it...but eh that's just coming from someone who's from a country where trick or treating isn't really a thing.
It's a huuuuuuuge deal here in the States, so people get really fired up about it. I didn't want to be rude, which is why I waited until I thought they were gone, but nope! They were standing outside my door the whole time (this was about 3 minutes, which, mind you, is a long time to stand at one door and wait for someone to answer). I feel bad, but, like, do they have nothing better to do but cuss out a stranger for having severe cramps and mild social anxiety and therefore not feeling up to the festivities?
Would putting up a sign on your door informing people that you don't give out candy help or would that put you at higher risk of someone being rude towards you?
It's 50/50. A sign sends most people away, but there's still some who insist, mostly entitled mothers who can't fathom an occupied house not stocking candy for THEIR little miracles. (That... sounded kinda harsh. ) There haven't been any knocks in half an hour, so for now I won't waste the paper. If I get another one, I'll absolutely put up a sign.
