Rrrrrrr yeah!! I really want to love them but have trouble. Actually, I quite like Ken. I've heard some really beautiful uses of him. And while Kaori isn't quite as good, her voice can also be really nice. But I just can't get over how Yamaha's Engloid quality dropped from Cyva and Cyman to Amy and Chris?? I don't understand. Like the concepts are good. Chris has a mellow and "approachable" voice, and Amy has that thick quality and power that we've all wanted since Lola, but yet. Yet. They're muffled, their vowels sound weird, half the time they sound like their throats are too closed and it hurts their tone. Yamaha I just want to stan all Engloids why did you do this !!

Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Admittedly I have hardly listened to Ken or Kaori so I probably should have just said V5 engloids , but from what I've heard they aren't as hq as the VY series.
But the engloids....baffle me. Cyva and Cyman were some of the highest quality engloids we've ever had. When Cyva was first released I was blown away because she was the first engloid I could understand without reading captions. Despite their flaws, Cyva and Cyman were really good engloids imo. So WHAT HAPPENED
I can't understand Chris and Amy at all, it's a mix of their pronunciation and the fact theyre so damn muffled (chris especially). They always sound like they're sing mumbling. Can yall be LOUDER AND CLEARER PLEASE I CANT HEAR YOU

See, the thing is that I appreciate what I think the attempt with Amy and Chris was. Because my biggest pet peeve with Engloids is when people don't edit their phonemes, especially the hard T's at the ends of words. Except very specific circumstances, no one is going to clearly say and aspirate the T's in something like "tonight my heartbeat won't quit", but a Vocaloid will chop up the phrase by saying it every time unless you specifically go in and change these all to [d] or [dh] or drop DYN to 0 or smth. And more and more people are doing this, which I appreciate. But I remember my friends and I freaking out back when Cyman was released, because he was the first one we'd seen who would automatically play a muted d sound if there was a [t] immediately followed by another consonant. It was amazing! What a step up for natural sounding Engloids!

...So I think Chris and Amy have this programming but taken to the next level, where too much is muted, and you can't hear them very clearly. And since it's in their programming, you have a few limited phoneme options you can try to swap out, but you're mostly stuck with it. Which is a damn shame.

I hate most uses of Kaori on YT, but there are a few I enjoy. Mostly in her lower registers, although she does kind of do the thing where the voice actress was a woman singing in a deep voice and then it's been run through Vocaloid -- if I'm not looking at the screen, I'll really genuinely think it's Len singing at first, until she goes into higher registers where she's more distinct asdlfksajf

I hardly listen to Len so I cant accurately compare them but her voice just seems so unnatural and bad, like the engloids. Ken can sound like that a little too but most uses I've found of him he has some redeeming qualities. I just dont know what happened over there at Yamaha ????? The Vy's were all so good. Whats up Yamaha??? What did yall do???

Didn't someone else take over as the Vocaloid dept lead developer? Seems their... image. For Vocaloid. Wasn't great.

Wish Yamaha would do SOMETHING. I've seen people defending Yamaha saying "oh of course they aren't doing more, V5 isn't popular and all the V4s they spent a lot of money on failed!". But like ?? Arsloid was shit quality, and his other banks were choppy as hell, clearly meant for the XSY gimmick that they got rid of with V5. Unity-chan was also bad quality and her design was hell. Sachiko is beloved in-fandom but is so niche that I honestly can't believe they expected her to sell a lot? And fans love Fukase, but serious producers don't buy him because he has more restrictions on use than any other Vocaloid. And then they put V5 out with no option to buy the editor without 4 default banks of questionable quality, which jacked the price up to a stupid amount for someone just getting into it. And then pulled the V4 versions of some of their best quality banks, sticking THEM behind the V5 paywall, having just up and deleted VY1 and VY2's extra banks.

+ Yamaha sucks at advertising. Throwback to when Cyman was revealed, had demos dropped, AND released for sale on the SAME day?? Like come ON yall.

I never really understood why people defended companies so much? Like theyre not your friends, theyre a business asking you for money. You have a right to criticize their product since their job is to convince you into giving them money.
I've seen the same argument and I don't get it lol. It's not like we all collectively said "boo we hate yamaha lets not buy their products".
Firstly, their advertising blows. You mentioned Cymans situation and also Mirai didn't even have any demos before her vb was released. yamaha why am i gonna wanna spend 100 dollars on a singing robot if i dont know what she sounds like
Secondly, while they did hire celebrities to do more voicebanks, there were a lot of reasons they didn't turn in to best sellers. Arlsoid was originally supposed to be private and a lot of people didn't realize he was ever released. Like a month ago I was in a Crusher-P stream and she mentioned how she liked Arsloid but he was a private vocaloid, she didn't know he was public and hes been out for years. Sachiko is really good, but she's really good at one genre and it's not a common genre you see people pumping out originals for in the vocaloid community....And then Fukase was finally the one thing they did right but oh wait you have to get permission to release music with him. Whoops.
I wish yamaha would get it together and make good vbs and make v5 popping and everyone be happy but alas

Exactly. All of this. Hit the nail on the damn yeah. I totally forgot poor Mirai. I actually like her voice too! Damn. It's all such a shame.

Amy and Chris may deserve this but imo Ken and Kaori are nice and I stan them jj7rihx

Edit: Also wanted to jump in to say Sachiko wasn't targeted at the fandom in the first place.

Wasn't sachiko made to preserve the singers sachiko's voice. I feel like the default English voice banks are a terrible advertising for English vocaloid. They all are so muffled and hard to use. Chris is a pain and Amy has tone issues. I wonder if they were rushed like everything in v5.

I know that sachiko wasnt targeted at the fandom, which is kind of a point against "yamaha feels defeated because they made voicebanks with celebrities and nobody bought them". like ofc sachiko wasnt a number one seller, she doesnt appeal to the majority of the consumer base. but i still love my grandmaloid :sachiko_lili:
