  • Due to my recent binging of both Mandopop and Spongebob memes, YouTube is now recommending several clips from the Cantonese dub. (I thought it was the Taiwanese dub, since the writing is traditional Chinese rather than simplified and I haven't really delved into Cantopop, but it's the Cantonese dub... why, I don't know.) I'm honestly loving it.
So I may or may not have finally finished my first Haiyi cover, and I may or may not be posting it to YouTube tomorrow, and I may or may not be posting it to my Facebook right now because I'm excited and want to share it before then. (My best friend has borne the brunt of my obsessions over my jellyfish queen these past few months, so I figured she at least would like it. :yohioloid_lili: )
You know what I could do? Tutor in English, either for school kids or ESL students. There's a lot of positions open on Indeed, and I meet literally every requirement... EXCEPT I don't already have my bachelor's degree. GaaaAAAAAAH.

Ah well. I put in an application for a delivery driver position at Panera, then tomorrow I'm gonna try my luck with that book store. Beggars can't be choosers, y'know. I'll just be happy to get a job.

How about italki? They have two types of tutors: Professional (as in they have certifications/passed a test) and community (as in they have no formal training). You could teach English on there. You get to set your rates of pay and availability (can have lessons that are 30 min, 45 min, or 1 hr). I don't know what it takes to sign up to be a teacher (you have to make a profile and film a video of you introducing yourself that goes on YouTube as a minimum), but I've been a student on there for like... 3 years in order to get Japanese tutoring on Skype.

I'll check it out. Thank you!!
    I need help.

What are some good, trustworthy places to buy laptops that you can pay in installments, either through credit or through payment plans? Best Buy's a bust, because apparently quad-core laptops with 8GB of RAM and 1TB of hard drive space that run Windows 10 is Too Much to Ask.

Maybe you could consider focusing on finding a job, then after you get a source of income, reward yourself with the laptop. The full Miku NT isn't even coming out until August, anyway, and we don't exactly know which features are included with the beta version (doesn't even look like Cherry Pie will be in the beta, which is the most interesting part).

I know. I'm not even planning on getting her beta anyway (I'm too addicted to boxes). I'm definitely focused on finding a job; the reason I'm looking for places to find a laptop already is that I just like to have my bases covered. Piapro is hardly the only reason I want a new laptop. My current, God bless it, sucks, and I wanna make sure I know what kind of price range what I want is in so once I do get a job, I'll be able to budget accordingly.

SynthV may lack a Velocity parameter, but it does have the Tension parameter, which more or less makes up for it. The Lord yeeteth and He yoinketh away I suppose.

See, I've made a lot of use of the note timing, but it just doesn't seem to work the same. I can't get the results I need no matter how much I try, working on both the affected note and the notes around it. Maybe I just need to practice more...

SynthV in general does seem to just need... a lot of practice to get what you want out of it. When you do though, it's stupid good

    peaches2217
This is as close as I've managed to get using just the Note Timing, but, as you can hear, it's awkward and notes come in too early. I've spent about twenty minutes on his one section, and this is all I have to show for it.

Truth be told, she's one of the trickiest vocals I've worked with (but not outright hard, like Prima/Tonio/Sonika). Outside of a fairly restricted range her voice becomes inconsistent and unpredictable, which, while fixable, takes a lot of tinkering and editing of individual notes. My God she's worth it though.
Do y'all have favorite words, or is that just a dorky writer thing? Here's my personal favorites:

Well here's a steal if ever there was one: Miku V2 for under $12! The catch being, of course, that it's just her scratched-up (but still readable!) installation disk: no box, no manual, nothing. Still, if you just want her V2 voicebank, it's a steal.

...I'm tempted, but I'd probably never use her since I have her V4X and will be getting her NT this year, so the box is literally all I'd want, heh.

    It says it's just the CD and nothing else, so it doesn't seem like the serial comes with it. I've seen someone sell Sora's Voiceroid disc only without the serial, so it's something people do occasionally ^^;;
Welcome to Peaches' Opinion Corner! Here's some stuff that's been on my mind:
    • When used correctly, SynthV isn't just easier than Vocaloid, it's much better. Listen to duets/trios featuring Xingchen and any of her sisters. Xingchen sticks out like a broken leg. I really hope she gets a SynthV release, because her potential could easily be tripled.
    • Wowaka's Unhappy Refrain and Hachi's Sand Planet had the same ultimate goal: address a notorious problem in the Vocaloid community (the lack of respect given to musicians for Unhappy Refrain, the slowing/dying down of the Vocaloid community for Sand Planet). Both are pessimistic and have a message, but Unhappy Refrain was a lot more successful in its delivery, as the topic it pressed was deeply needed, and proper credit for producers has become a much bigger thing than it was in Wowaka's heyday. Sand Planet, however, was just kinda mean, and I feel like it blatantly discredited the hard work of producers and fans trying to keep the Vocaloid fandom afloat.
      • I still love both songs, though, make no mistake. I just feel like Sand Planet could have been a bit more respectful, or at least suggest change...
    • Kaito English doesn't sound like Kermit, y'all are just mean.
      • (Though I'm not sure if a lot of people actually think that, considering I've only seen two memes about it, but one was from a popular Vocaloid YouTuber, so...)
    • Masa needs to release the off-vocal for STAR LIGHT. Dammit Masa it'd make a perfect OliLen duet, I'm dying over here!
    • In spite of the game's flaws, Save the Homeland has the best soundtrack of any BokuMono game. Its replacement with a new soundtrack (and Toy/Tony's redesign: they cut his ponytail off, and his model in-game makes him look like he has fish eyes from certain angles) is really the only area where Hero of Leaf Valley underperforms in comparison.
      • I also prefer the more fluid animations of StH: as gorgeous as HoLV is, it feels more stilted, and it takes away that realistic, almost gritty edge that made StH so charming.

I definitely thought Chiyu shone in that first song. Her voice was so... rich?
That second song is so GORGEOUS. I can see what you mean about Synth V voices being more emotive, although I also thought Xingchen sounded good--
CangQiong is still my queen, but damn did Haiyi sound good there too. Don't make me stan Quadimension I can't afford this I--

And no worries at all!! That's really cute. I wish I'd ever been able to get into it when I was little!!

@peaches2217 I listened to that one too and I still think Stardust blends fine tbh. CangQiong is the one who sounds wonky here (which is odd as she's sounded great elsewhere)

    peaches2217
@Leon Ooh! If I may, here's another good example of my complaint about HoLV feeling stilted compared to StH: one of my favorite events from both games. (They should be time marked, otherwise they begin at 8:46 and 6:27, respectively. I'm sorry, these games - and especially Dia - just have such a special place in my heart.)

Going back to Xingchen, I still think she sounds great in all of her uses that have been shared, it's just that she's noticeably different. It's not that she's bad or doesn't fit overall, it's just you can tell she's rendered through a different program, and I personally like the sound her sisters give off better. I love them all deeply.
IA's officially up for grabs! I ended up starting her out at $60, with the option to buy her immediately for $85 (which is about what she runs through the Vocaloid website). If you're interested, help me out!
I'm honestly considering reselling IA, because I just... don't see myself using her. The thrill of buying a packaged Vocaloid at half price overcame me, and that's honestly the only reason I got her.

Would anyone be interested? After shipping she was $70, so I'll probably sell her for $50. That's nearly a third her boxed retail price.

Can do! I'm listing her on eBay right now.
I've been off the Mastodon server for the past few days because every time I go on there I feel so lost... I try jumping in and talking about UTAUs and art and cosplay and everything, but I feel like I'm on the outside desperately trying and miserably failing to get in on the fun. It feels like everyone is already friends and I just... have no place there.

This is the only vocalsynth community I've ever successfully integrated into, and I'm not sure if it was just luck or if everyone kinda begrudgingly tolerates me and I'm oblivious to it... anyone else have those kinds of issues?

Admittedly, that's what I've been doing, and that's why no one likes me I think. It's okay to have your own interests, but if no one shares those interests they won't like you. :yohioloid_lili:

I wouldnt say no one likes you, just that people probably didnt have much to add to the conversation, but that doesnt mean they dont like you. Maybe just try asking people what their personal hcs/ships are, that type of stuff, to get general conversation going, or share those DA meme thingies!! those were always fun and someone might join in.

Eh, Discord is only fast paced in certain places. Some chats fly by you can barely read them. For the general_chat on the VocaVerse server, there are maybe 3-7ish people at most chatting about something at one time (we generally take turns and switch topics when input slows down). There are a lot of sub chat thingies in it, too, so some of those don't get posts for several days.
While I'm on the topic of BokuMono (as I will be for a while... I apologize in advance), I got to thinking: I've dropped a great, great, great deal of money on vocalsynths. One of my dreams when I was a kid was to be able to buy the original Harvest Moon, box and all, but I'd always thought it was hopeless because it was so expensive. Well, about ten minutes ago, I got to thinking: if I can pay $200 a pop for music software, I can pay the same to make an old childhood dream come true!

Except I forgot just HOW expensive HM SNES was. This was the cheapest one I found.

...I got the game for $8 on WiiWare in high school. I think I'll stick to that for now.

(To add insult to injury, you can find the Japanese version easily for under $20, and like $50 at most for a mint-condition copy with the box, game, and manual. The NA English version? Not happening.)

Yeah Harvest Moon was a bit of a cult classic on the American side, so it kinda makes sense it's a bit rare. Still though, that's HIGH!
    Blue Of Mind

SNES game prices went ridiculous a while back (both NTSC and PAL) because the people who grew up on it became nostalgic and tried tracking down their old games. I think PAL prices have come down/stabilised though, but some titles like Harvest Moon and Earthbound always stay high because people are always trying to get them, both for loose carts and boxed copies. (Boxed copies naturally have the most awful markups.)
    peaches2217
    peaches2217
Yeah, the cartridge alone rarely goes for less than $200. As much as I’d love to have it, I can’t justify spending that much on just that. If nothing else, people on Etsy make copy boxes for like $10, and since I already have the game digitally that might be good enough.

HM SNES and HM64 were both in the high-hundreds when I was a kid, and a few months back I managed to snag a cartridge of HM64 for $40. You can find fully-boxed copies for less than Miku’s V4X, so I guess I just kinda got my hopes up with the SNES game too, heh...

(Also, fun fact: HM SNES was the first BokuMono game I ever got 100% Completion on, so it’s extra special to me!)
I love doing these pointless things, and since I'm making BokuMono content to take a break from my Vocaloid series and come back to it with fresh eyes, I made this. I even awarded medals to my top three favorites!
