(Fraid I can't comment on the main question, but you can always get an external hard drive with 1-3 TB memory for a pretty reasonable price. 'S what I did to store all my pictures and Vocaloid installers. Also, afaik, most laptops come with 4-6 GB RAM and you have to buy extra. Super annoying, I still need to get more for my laptop tbh)

I've got an external hard drive, but my synths alone take up so much space, I don't know if storing the installers elsewhere would make a bit of difference... my current laptop has the exact same specs, but it's dual-core, so I figured getting one with an extra pair of cores wouldn't be far-fetched.

I really like B&H photo for electronics. I see that they have financing available, but I’m not sure what the terms are or how they compare to other vendors in that area.
