  • Is anyone else having problems uploading to YouTube right now? I'm trying to post something, but the processing tab is constantly stuck at 0%, and I don't think it's my internet because it's working for all the websites I've tried, just in case it was on the blink again.

EDIT: It got through after I sat around for like, half an hour lol. Guess YT is having problems with peak traffic today.

If that ever happens, I find switching browsers helps. I’ve got Firefox downloaded specifically for when YouTube uploads too slowly.
Holy crap, I managed to finish off my final essay tonight! Still needs the mandatory proofread and edit before I can hand it in at some point next month, but everything I wanted to write down is now officially in text. At this point, I'm just glad I can get back to my dissertation very soon.
I was gonna complain about how annoying my final essay is to write and how I just want to carry on further with my dissertation research, but then I realised I'm actually at the home stretch stage of my essay. Hopefully, I might be done with it next week if I don't suffer from procrastination lol.
I've found myself faving a lot more UTAU videos on YouTube lately, mainly Teto songs. UTAU tuning and VB creation has come a long way since 2008, when UTAUs still sounded super choppy compared to Vocaloid at the time. Now, I find that VBs like Teto can sound about as smooth as a Vocaloid with the right tuning.

they do!! UTAU has certainly come a long way in terms of voicebank quality standards. especially when voicebanks like merry/renri/sora etc started releasing which are just crazy realistic. although i still hear lots of well tuned vocaloid music/covers, ive gotten to favour UTAU over the years because i find it sounds a lot more humanlike and emotional.

if you like teto, Ahn Duy makes a lot of original Teto songs in english and ??? how does he work teto's old 2015 english cvvc like that....?!??
Sooo, MCM have cancelled all of their cons currently slated for this summer, and I got a refund on the tickets I bought for Birmingham (which had been rearranged for June). Looks like this year is gonna be boring as hell. :P
So I just got an equivalent to a C for an essay about German air power during World War II, and I haven't had a grade that low since I started my undergrad five years ago. Now the confidence I had for my final essay has been knocked. :(

To be fair, the entire essay was about the technical side of WWII (one of my weaker subjects), so in hindsight, I'm just happy I managed to pass. Postgraduate marking is also much harsher than undergrad marking, and the pass rate is something like 50 marks, compared to 40 marks for undergrad. The lecturer who marked it did say it was an OK essay overall, but there were some structure and information issues that were obvious to him. So I guess it was a "diamond in the rough" piece in his eyes.

My final essay is about Operation Market Garden (partially chosen because I didn't like any of the other questions available in the class guide), but I'm kinda winging it by talking about how much of a douche Bernard Montgomery was lol.

Well, I'd say you're doing pretty well! The current semester has been more high-stress and unusual than others, but if the worst you got during such an odd time is a C? I'd say you're doing great!

We believe in you, Blue! You'll do great! :kaito_move:

Thanks for the encouragement, guys. :)

My uni has had to alter how it calculates overall course grades for this year because of Covid, so instead of being judged on 120 credits (including the dissertation portion), they'll calculate my final grade based on 80 credits instead, regardless of what mark I get on my dissertation. 80 credits is equivalent to four classes, and I already have four essays above 60% (equivalent to a B), so if I end up messing up my final essay or if I do worse than expected on my dissertation (unlikely, since I'm basing it on the Holocaust, my strongest WWII subject), then I should still be on track for a B overall.

I have specialist mentors at my uni who help me with both the academic and emotional sides of uni, so I'm gonna send an email to them tomorrow about the mark and the course grade calculations.
Welp, DeviantART is forcing the Eclipse redesign on everyone from 20th May, and I still dislike the user interface on there, so I dunno whether to stay put on there or not now. :/
Well, I've finally cleaned out my wardrobe, in the sense that I've figured out which pieces I want to donate. Unfortunately, since no charity shops are open for obvious reasons, they'll have to stay in the top shelf of my wardrobe and be a nuisance for a bit. :P
My online lectures are audio recordings over PowerPoint presentations that you can view as a video, and some of them are around or over a hour long because my lecturers like to ramble a lot. This last class I need to do is gonna suck.

Have you tried boosting the playback speed to 1.25x?

I have issues processing speech, so increasing the playback speed is pointless for me.
One thing about the corona panic and the UK lockdown is giving me joy, at least - watching the buds on the trees behind my garden slowly turn into leaves. :)
    >"I should clean out my bookcase, my wardrobe, my desks and under my bed. Oh, and dust off my plushies too."

(But seriously, I will dust the plushies. They're disgusting right now. orz)
So, I've just been made redundant from work. Whether this is just temporary for a few months because of corona or permanent because of a minimum wage increase in the UK next month remains to be seen. But now I've lost half of my monthly income when combined with disability benefit.
So, my uni has stopped lectures and any forms of face-to-face contact; the archive I volunteer at once a week has told me not to come in for a bit; and my workplace might shut down because of Covid, and it's likely I won't get sick pay for it because I'm the true definition of a part-time worker (I only pop in once a week.) What a fun March this is turning out to be, and I normally love springtime.
The con I was gonna go to next Saturday has been pushed back to June because of Covid, and the government has pushed back local council and mayoral elections in the UK to next year. Even though Covid might have stabilised/disappeared by this summer. Yaaay, a new excuse for them to undermine democracy!

Little note on the summer thing as someone who works in the medical field no professional will make that claim because we do not know how Covid 19 will behave them and the statement of it will go away in the summer while it may be true if it isn't will lead people to become complacent with their bad habits when it could and at the moment probably will still be a concern at that point in time
I've been seeing a few bits of Mikuo (Miku's genderbend) fanart and cosplay on Instagram recently, and all I can think of is, "Holy shit, people still remember/care about Vocaloid genderbends?!" I thought that practise died out in late V2/early V3, around the same time fanloids in general died out because the amount of official Vocaloids released was becoming healthy enough for fanworks without relying on OCs.

The only derivative character I've seen much of post-V3 is Sakine Meiko, and even she started dying out once Meiko V3 came out... still, it's cool that they still have some active fans! What a blast from the past.
When you nearly fall for one of those bank phishing scams because it was sent to your uni email address, and it wasn't written in broken English. I'm an idiot... orz

(I didn't get very far into the scam, don't worry. I didn't actually put my bank details in there. Still paranoid now tho.)
