  • For those of you who preordered Eleanor Forte, did you get Anri as well? I got an email from Volor saying that, since I preordered Eleanor, I can get Anri at a cheaper price, but I'm not sure which version of her vb gets the discount/how to apply the discount. Is it the add-in box, or is that sold out? Here's the product page if anyone needs it: anri _ai_pre-order

If you sign into your ANiCUTE account, on ANRI's preorder section the three items at the top (a Anri preorder on her own) should now be the discounted ANRI preorder for ordering Eleanor. They're only visible whilst signed in if you have an Eleanor preorder attached to your account. You can then also add-in the box if you want the physical too, though you won't get the preorder gifts any more as they're sold out.

    Oh ok. Thanks!
Does anyone else have the Synth V starter pack, and if so, do you know where to go to redeem the coupon for a free voice? I checked AHS's website, but I can't seem to find any info there. The instructions made it seem like there should be a way to redeem the voicebank code when you install the editor, but I'm not seeing an option to do that.

Thank you both! I was talking about the Synth V Studio Pro starter pack. When I open the launcher I see this:
I'm assuming that there should be a button somewhere here. The Saki Lite folder just has Saki Lite's installer and usage guidelines, and the EULA folder just has the EULA in different languages. When I run the Synth V Studio Pro installer I don't see an option to add a voicebank. Am I missing something? I'm looking at the launcher shown in the pamphlet and it looks different from this one, but I think that could just be a Mac vs Windows thing since that's happened with my other AHS 'loids when I switched computers.

Oh, that does look different than what I'm used to seeing, though you're probably right that it works differently on Mac vs Windows orz.

After I left my initial comment, I remembered I actually sent someone the direct link to the redeem page some time ago, and I just found it. Here's the direct link to the page!

Thank you so much! I got Saki!!!
Anyone remember when I said I wanted to make a music theory thread 4 months ago? Just after I said that I was slammed with work, but now I have free time again! So I've been trying to figure out how to organize this in terms of its topics because it's a lot and here's what I have so far:

This is the order I was thinking of using:
    - Basic Pitch/Rhythm + Music Notation (Key sig, time sig, counting + takadimi, hemiolas, scales, intervals, etc)
    - Chord Types (Triads, Seventh Chords)
    - Roman Numeral Analysis + Chord Inversions
    - Lead Sheet Analysis
    - Sequences + Harmonic Progression
    - Cadences
    - Modes
    - Non-Chord Tones
    - Secondary Dominants
    - Neapolitan Chords (bII)
    - Augmented 6th Chords (German, French, Italian)
    - Modulation
    - Enharmonic Chord Spellings and Modulation
    - More Scales (Whole Tone, octatonic, major/minor pentatonic)
    - Polyrhythm
    - Twelve Tone Serialism

This is stuff that I definitely want to mention but idk where to put it:
    - Sight singing
    - How to transcribe chord progressions
    - Part writing (4-part harmony, open vs closed intervals, keyboard vs chorale style (SATB))
    - Music structure (motive, period (+types), sentence, sonata form, ternary, rondo, binary, etc)

I'll probably come up with more topics and revise this list as I go over my notes but that's what I have so far. There are some concepts like twelve tone serialism that I can't find examples of in vocal synth music. At the moment I'm thinking of pulling from non-vocal synth music for that one, but I'm open to suggestions. I've been drafting the first couple posts and they've gotten really long, so I'll probably split up the pitch and rhythm parts into different posts and use spoiler tags for each subtopic (or something along those lines). Anyways, I just wanted to give an update since I hadn't mentioned the thread in a while. If anyone happens to see that I'm forgetting important concepts feel free to let me know.
I remember people speculating that the Synth V Gen 1 vbs would stop working on August 31st, so I checked and they're still working for me. I have the demo vbs + editor, not the paid version. I checked the license activation and it says that they will never expire which is really nice!
Hi! I realize that I haven’t posted much here aside from asking/answering questions every once in a while and I’d like to be more active. I’ve been thinking about making a thread that relates music theory to Vocaloid music. Something along the lines of me attempting to summarize a concept in music theory and then finding an example of that concept in Vocaloid music? It might devolve into me just attempting to analyze different Vocaloid songs, but I’ll definitely try to explain how I’m interpreting things/my way of thinking as I go along. If I were to do that, then where should I put it?
Does anyone know if the 4-in-1 discount on Anicute has a set end date or not? I remember that one sale for SV ends on September 15, but I don’t remember which one that is. I’m trying to decide between that and Gakupo V4 since Internet Co’s sale ends on Friday.

If it's any help, Internet Co usually has a sale for like all of their characters' anniversaries and major holidays, so they have sales quite often. I don't know when/if the Anicute sale ends, unfortunately.
Today I found out about this Utau producer who doesn’t want to be named and I just want to say that I really like their music. Here’s a cover Crusher made of one of their songs if anyone is interested: As far as I can tell it’s ok to share their music as long as you don’t say their name (if it’s not just let me know and I’ll take this down).
Does anyone happen to know what differences there are between VY1V3 and VY1V4? I know V4 has way more voicebanks, but I also saw a cover that Circus-P/Cheezitsareyummy posted a while ago mentioning that the tone of her V3 is different from any of the V4 banks. I'm trying to figure out if I should get V3 Neo since I can't find V4 anywhere.

This is a topic that has always interested me, so I may be able to explain a bit about what I found.

    VY1_V3 is basically VY1 (VOCALOID2).
VY1V4, however, appears to have been largely re-recorded relative to VY1_V3 (or at least has recordings that the previous voices have not. Maybe it's the same recording session, idk).

First of all, you need to know your main pitchs (you can known this by decompressing the ddb files)
    A3 - D4 - G4 = VY1_V3 (same as V2)
    A3 - D4 - G#4 = VY1V4 Natural

VY1_Power is basically just the top pitch of VY1_Natural (G#4) btw. Apparently it's monopitch.

However, you may notice that there is some overlap in the pitchs that I mentioned. What happens is that the recordings sound different. They are definitely different recordings. I suppose they did this in order to separate the pitchs into different voices? idk
A3 on V4 sounds more whisper-y, D4 sounds more strong on V3, and G4 sounds more falsetto-like on V3 but very strong on V4.

TLDR; CircusP is right. They have different tones because they are pretty much different voices.

yeah, Normal and Soft are apparently the middle and bottom pitches of Natural as well.
this makes them virtually useless, as monopitch banks have very poor effective range

Thanks for all of the suggestions and the clarification! I'm going to go listen to some covers to figure out which vb I like better. It's nice to know they're so different!

Man, if only they’d gone on sale sooner! Woulda saved me $80. orz

Ah well, they’ll make someone deeply happy!
Is anyone looking for a copy of Rin/Len Act 1? I think I just found a listing for it on Mercari, but I'm not entirely sure since the listing uses doesn't specify if it is Act 1/2. It is the act 1 boxart, though.
@peaches2217 I just had a random cover idea: Oliver and Len singing Into the Unknown from Frozen 2 with Oliver doing the upper part and Len doing Elsa’s part. I don’t really know how that would sound, but I figured I should mention it in case you’re interested (obviously if you don’t like the idea, don’t feel obligated to do it, I’m just throwing it out here). I don’t plan on doing it since I don’t have Oliver.

That sounds really cool! It seems like it'd be a better concept than reality though, sadly; Len's English voicebank doesn't have a fraction of the power needed to pull that song off. The only English duet I've managed to use them in was a trance-electronic song. Still, I love the thought!
Does anyone know if Act 1 Vocaloids work on Windows 10? I just found a really good deal on Rin/Len Act 1 and I'm kind of tempted to get them.

Ok thank you! I'm not sure I'll end up buying them now, but I'll definitely keep that in mind for future reference!

I have heard of a few issues with v2 on win10, but it's fairly rare.

No reason they shouldn't. V2 technically isn't supported on it, but I've had no issues running it. Just cause something isn't officially supported on a version of Windows doesn't mean it won't work, just that it hasn't been tested specifically for it, so companies won't guarantee it to save their own ass just in case. But yeah I run V1 through V5 on Win10, no issues (aside from, V1 sometimes gets mad when you try to install it and fails, and you have to restart the computer, and THEN it will install. So extra :P )
I just found a copy of VY1V4! Of course it's an auction and I have no clue if the seller is reliable or if any of the activation codes have been used up. At least the seller has 201 positive reviews and 0 negative ones. I'm still deciding whether or not I should place a bid. I haven't seen anyone selling VY1V4 since it was discontinued so I might do it.
