I attempted to do an academic research paper on voice synths last semester as well but eventually gave up because we had to have a very high number of sources and I struggled to find quality sources on the subject. And I ended up spending most of my draft essay explaining what vocaloid was and how it worked because half the sources either didn't do that or got things very wrong.

I remember trying to write an academic essay on Vocaloid. One of the “scholarly articles” I found was written by some guy who thought Miku was going to gain sentience and wipe out the human population.

Finding quality sources is hard since Vocaloid is niche and people who aren’t really “into” it tend to not understand it, be misinformed, or judgemental.
