Tuition is still the same for everyone in the UK, and not many students are happy about it either because depending on the uni, you can only do lectures online. Everyone is feeling ripped off as the Covid situation deteriorates again in the UK.
Finally got around to playing Among Us. It's a sick game. I'm surprisingly good at it. The servers are shit though. Can never connect to a lobby.

I've heard it's because there's too many people playing it after watching youtubers play it, and the servers can't take it.
I wanna buy some Vsinger 2020 concert merch, but I have no idea how, especially with Corona in the US. Sadge
Ordered the Nuclear Fission Kagamine Rin figure off Solaris Japan since it was a really good deal, but with all the COVID shit going on, I'd be surprised if I got it by November lol. Just want her to be here already.

About a month ago I ordered an anime figurine from Japan. I ended up getting it in like a week or two. Although I did pay extra for shipping and handling, maybe it'll be the same situation for you hopefully.
How do y'all tune? I'm sitting in SynthV listening to this garbage I made with Eleanor and man, how do y'all make this sound good? Magic?

Don't sweat it! I find Eleanor really difficult to tune imo. I think it has to do with her super clear pronunciation mixed with her being monopitch, It makes her very unenthusiastic sounding in most cases, like she's half singing half talking if that makes sense

I'm not sure what parameters you've fiddled with so far, but one value I always set near the start of a project is the default L and R values for all notes.

Although "duration - L" and "duration - R" default to 0.070, "depth - L" and "depth - R" default to 0.000. Try setting "depth - L" to 0.070 and adjust to taste, playing with the "duration - L" value at the same time. Then repeat the process with "depth - R" and "duration - R." You won't get all notes sounding perfect, but try to find the best overall setting.

Once I get the global note parameters sounding reasonable, I then move to individual note adjustments where necessary.
So Lucifer/Sahara has taken down all their VSQx's. Apparently someone stole their VSQx. It really sucks since a large part of the western vocaloid community used them.

I was in their Discord server when this all happened; not only did the person steal the VSQX, but also claimed the Luci stole the VSQX from them.
This isn’t the first time Luci has had his stuff stolen apparently. He really didn’t want to have to take it down, but I mean… his hand was kinda forced here and I completely respect his decision. There is nothing worse than people stealing stuff and taking credit for something you worked hard on.

It is unfortunate but imo many ppl relied on their vsqs little too much so in the grand scheme of things I believe its better for the both parties involved.

yeah, I agree. It just kinda sucks. I've heard that he might put them in a private discord server or on patreon. I'm down for either.
With the splitting of the AHSloids, I wonder where everyone else from AHS will go. We've heard nothing about Kiyoteru, Yuki, Miki, Iroha, etc. I'm hoping they go to SynthV tbh.

Yukari is only distributed by AHS rather than produced, I believe, so future vocals will either be on SynthV like the Kotonohas, stay on Vocaloid, or premier on a brand-new synth entirely (not likely, but not impossible). Though given how much news we’ve gotten in the past month, I don’t anticipate we’ll know anytime soon, anyway.

while what hamano said makes a lot of sense, i will always remain patient waiting for an avanna figure. (and if any of the vipps got figures? i'd probably try to wake myself up because there's no way life would be this nice to me lol)

@hamano I understand that, but Gumi, IA, Rin, vflower, Una and a bunch of other vocaloids have reached heights of popularity (at leastin japan) that could justify a figure, but Gumi has like maybe 5 total, IA has 2, vflower and una both have none, and nowadays rin gets 1 every decade. There are plenty of vocaloids popular enough to have at least one made but never do. :gumi_lili::ia_lili::flower_smile_lili::una_lili::rin_lili:

Exactly, Rin is pretty popular yet gets very few figure releases, so she isn't considered a guaranteed money maker to the extent where it would make sense to give her more releases. Una and vFlower could get a figure at some point as they're fairly popular. Figure companies do watch the market and look into making products they know will sell enough to cover all production costs and make profit. The process of planning, sculpting, painting and actual manufacturing is surprisingly expensive and time-consuming. And of course a figure maker needs to reach a license agreement with the vocaloid company that owns the character rights.

But like I said, I wouldn't be too surprised if Una and vFlower got at least a one-off figure release sometime in the future
I'm gonna be honest, I don't really like how Genbu sounds. He just sounds so unnatural and robotic in comparison to Renri or even Eleanor. Still, he and SynthV Studio are on sale rn and I have really bad FOMO so I might end up getting him anyways. Until Muxin comes out, there aren't any other options for male vocals in SynthV.
I just got the VOCALOID4 editor, but everytime I try to launch it, I get a message stating I either 1.) Don't have a singer library(and I have rin/len) or 2.) Am missing necessary files. Any help please?

Y'know, out of sheer curiosity: what led you to track down V4? I know you said money was tight, and with V4 being price-gouged out the asshole of the universe ever since its retirement, I figured you'd just rely on PS. Granted, I haven't actually checked the prices in a while... with how many people have been acquiring copies lately, I suppose it's finally going back to its original price, like V3 eventually did? I certainly hope so!

Whatever the case! I'm very glad you were able to track down a copy for cheap! I haven't worked in V4 in round about a year, but I'm deeply familiar with it, so if you ever need any help don't hesitate to let me know.

Ah, hand-me-down Vocaloids are the absolute best! Congratulations! Again, if you ever need any help, either in V4 or Piapro, don't hesitate to let me know.

I kinda wanna write vocaloid fanfiction/stories but I'm afraid it'll be bad and I'll hate it. :(

With writing, or with anything creative, it's best to write as much as possible no matter how good the end result ends up being. The more you spend time with something, you better you get at it! Think of your first few fics as getting all the bad habits out of your system. And you can always show it to people for feedback!

Hey, coming from a fellow Vocaloid fanfictioner (it’s in my bio, after all!), go for it!! You’ll never know until you try. Andantina is absolutely correct: the key to improvement is constant writing. My most popular Vocaloid fic has 23 chapters, but I’ve written the equivalent of 50 chapters for it; there’s a lot of revisions and scenarios and full chapters that ended up not making the cut. The goal of only writing stuff that will be perfect is an unrealistic one; as we’re not paid to write fanfiction, your enjoyment and growth as a writer is the one and only end goal.

Know that we encourage you, and we support you!! If you ever want any help or feedback, my inbox is open.

The key to not being dissapointed ( or well...lessen the chances ) is to start with smaller and simpler projects and built your way up from there!! Sometimes you might underestimate the complexity of your project but dont feel blue when you cant execute your ideas right away! Learn and improve and come back to it later and it will be so good seeing yourself how much youve improved!!
What exactly is wrong with Luka's V4 voicebank? I've heard mostly negative things about it and even Cillia has said her V4 is not that good? It makes me sad as someone that likes Luka :/ Maybe that's why no one makes songs with her anymore :(
    Scarlet Illusion

I mean… I don’t wanna deter you from getting Luka if she’s who you really want; if you love her you’ll probably be willing to go out in the time and effort to make her sound good.
But in terms of beginner Vocaloids, I think the Kagamines are a great choice; they’re relatively easy to use with little issues (in terms of their Japanese; I have never used their English). But if you really like Luka and don’t mind putting in the time and effort to make her sound good, then I’m not gonna try and stop you!
But maybe the others will have something to say about this!! :sukonetei_smile_lili:

If you want Luka, go for it. She's not the easiest to use in the world but I think she's charming and on a basic level works fine. Honestly I'd go as far as saying she's actually better for beginners rather than experienced users because she just gets worse the heavier you edit. Personally I'd go for Rin/Len V4X as they're arguably the best updates alongside Miku, and have the best range of tones.

EVEC is a funky little thing, it's basically a bunch of extra vowel sets for the most part that act as mini-appends. There's a bunch of fancy descriptions for it but it's essentially just a way to cram a bunch of appends into one voicebank, Luka has 9 of them. I can't really explain them in detail since it's been years since I last bothered with it, but they work much better in Piapro from what I know where you can just select a voice color for a note and it'll work.
    peaches2217
    peaches2217
@uncreepy EVEC outside of Piapro is done via editing phonemes. I’m fairly certain it works in V5... I haven’t tried it, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work just because XSY was scrapped. Luka V4 has two sets of VBs, one that enables EVEC and one that doesn’t; being built into the VBs themselves, so long as you’re using the right set of banks it should work.

@Lemony I'm of the firm belief that, if you love a vocal, you should absolutely get them! Just know beforehand how difficult she’ll be to work with. If you can afford it, I advocate for getting her AND the Kagamines or another beginner-friendly vocal, that way you have the one you love AND one that’s easy to use and learn with. Luka is a pain, I won’t lie, but if you love her, you’re more likely to have the patience to work with her. Whatever you decide, we’re cheering you on!
I wish more people treated vocaloid music as real music not just a meme. So many songs have deep messages and themes beyond "haha weeb music and cute anime girl"

i know!! i hate the stigma around songs that use vocal synths, it really doesn't make any sense because in the end synth songs are just like any other song and have lyrics and meaning but in the west everyone sees it as "ew japanese song with a singing robot wth" even english synth songs are still looked down upon because "it's weird." it's like the only thing holding most people up is the fact that the voice is synthesized (but a real human was used to record it lol?)

i kinda think vocal synths is a thing where either you get it or you don't. when i was a cringey 14 yr old i thought vocaloids were cool, and now it's been 6 years of using vocal synths!! I find the same joy and relaxation i have in drawing as i do in tuning vocals in UTAU :)
