Firstly: I wish you luck in finding better employment. No one should have to put up with that.
Secondly: You should leave her with a mess to clean up or something. Frankly, I'm impressed you bothered with the 2 weeks notice.

This was funny, but I'll admit, my idea is a bit meaner. To give an example, at my place of work we've had several people over the years just up and quit the job. Ghosting my boss and leaving him in a really tough spot as he has to scramble to fix things and actually caused several problems for other departments. Think of it like a domino effect. A bit cruel I suppose, but then the people who caused her to quit weren't exactly sympathetic.
anyone here have any fav podcasts?
ive started going to the gym more often and kinda want some podcasts to tune into.
Was drinking a baja blast on my lunch break outside and a bee came up and tried crawling in through the straw. Im terrified of bees being close to me so i ran away like a little baby, but it was pretty cute!
why do so many western vocaloid producers post "not everyone can make music/be good at music its just a fact of life youll never be good sorry" im so damn sick of it :| anyone can be good at anything with enough practice, learning and growth thats the fact of life stop discouraging people for no reason other than the fact u just want to spread negativity. ugh.

Let's not forget that the Vocaloid fandom was originally built on Japanese hobbyist musicians who may or may not have been still in school when Miku exploded in popularity. Western producers arrived a bit later, and even then some started out as cover artists. It honestly feels like an elitist circle has been built around some of the bigger Western producers.

Elitism in western/European music has a long history. For example, the “great” composers of the past were in reality a small group of highly trained musicians that composed for the wealthy and musically educated minority (with the possible exception of opera). Additionally, the knowledge that these composers needed for their trade was not accessible to the general public, instead being transmitted directly from composer to composer—although not always via composers who are still known today. This elitism carries forward to the modern age, with (some of) those who read notation, understand voice leading, etc. looking down upon those who do not. (Rick Beato falls 100% in this category, so don’t blame it all on “classical” musicians.)

But other cultures have different views on music. For example, participation may be more important than virtuosity or training, and notation may not be needed—or may even be a hinderance—if the music relies more upon improvisation than preparation. Even back in the days of the “great” composers, European lower classes had their own “simpler” music, some of which was participation orientated (e.g. drinking songs), and vast majority of which was never written down.

Using computers to make music is just a tool, but it’s also a tool that leapfrogs some of the past requirements needed to create western music. Considering the past history of western music, it shouldn’t be surprising that any tool that democratizes music production will ruffle feathers among the more experienced, even if they use those same tools.

(And yes, MIDI and DAWs are absolutely designed around western music.)

I think of talent as sort of an inherent natural advantage. It just means that, for whatever reason, your brain (in this case) is wired in such a way that music or whatever art form comes more easily to you. Other things, at the same time, may come with more difficulty.

For example, consider bike riding. Maybe the average person tries and falls 10 times before they get the hang of it. A person with a talent for bike riding may only fall 7 times.

The fact that it comes more easily doesn't mean that said art form is the domain of a select few with an inborn gift. If people work to grow, I think anyone can improve.

This discussion makes me think of Naruto's Rock Lee, the ninja with basically no access to the flashy semi-magical genjutsu or ninjutsu. Yet still, this "genius of effort" was able to do some phenomenal things and fit in with the rest of the cast doing things his own way.

I would also mention that I've met or seen lots of great people among those of the Western tradition (both within the fandom and out) who are willing to share their knowledge, tools, and other things in order to help others who are trying to grow in the music art form. Anytime you look up an answer to a music question on YouTube, or read an article on someone's blog or website that explains something, there's a good chance that it was created by someone like that. So try to focus on them rather than getting dragged down by the things others do.
health saga updates: went to the dr! they checked my heart and lungs and i have a slight heart murmur but nothing else. my issues have been caused most likely by just like....the worst stomach acid ever imaginable lol. i am on some medication for it now (that i have to take 5 times a day, and is all structured around when i eat meals, so its very complicated T_T) hopefully this new medicine works so i can eat and breathe and sleep again!

I hope you get better with the medication! ❤

PS. Heartburn sucks! I had it a couple of years ago and it was awful. I asked to have all sorts of tests and even a gastroscopy and they couldn't find anything wrong (except that my esophagus was irritated by the stomach acid itself), so we concluded that it must be a somatic symptom caused by anxiety. I was able to overcome it with stomach meds and therapy to reduce my anxiety.

Hopefully your current medication works, but in the case that it doesn't then maybe you could try asking for a different one (if it's possible - I don't know how the health system in America works). In my case I had to try a few different combinations of medications until I found one that worked.
    Hopefully it goes well!

I get heartburn every so often because I'm a mess of gastro issues. (My dad is prone to heartburn as well, so I think in my case, it's genetic in some way?) I've never had heartburn that severe it caused chest pains though - hope you get well soon!

Glad to see there wasn't even much more serious problems on-going but yeah, take care as much as possible since it's qstill painful, and sorry about it ;w;"'
well everyone in my life that told me it was just heartburn has given up on the heartburn narrative because im on day 5 and cant sleep because it hurts so bad, so im finally caving in and either going to make a drs appointment for this week or go to the e.r. if i cant breathe again :kaito_lili: oh, i hope you non-americans with your universal healthcare cherish it everyday
still struggling viciously with chest pains, im hoping its just severe heartburn and not anything major but...sigh, i miss when i could eat and drink and exist without clutching my chest and bending over in pain

I'm picking up pokemon arceus today. I'm realling hoping I at least enjoy it for what it is. I didn't even finish the last remake they made. The exp. share killed it completely for me. I've seen some leaks but I haven't seen any gameplay and my expectations are low.

yeah i never finished ultra sun or sword or lets go evee cause i didnt like any of them :/ i've been hesitant to try the recent remakes. i wasnt gonna bother with oras because i still have my original ruby and i enjoy that, but i was curious about the new diamond/pearl ones because i dont have diamond/pearl/platinum.

If you've never played the original DP, the remakes are pretty fun so I'd definitely suggest giving them a try (this is coming from someone who played the OGs back when they first released and has done a few reruns of them)! They're not HGSS or ORAS tier but they're quite good and even genuinely challenging at some point (I had a couple of nightmare gym battles and Cynthia required a lot of cheesing my way through, haha). My only complaint is the lack of content from Platinum (i.e. Battle Frontier and Distortion World) but outside of that I don't have any gripes!
its really interesting to me to see the debate over new voice synths sounding too human and realistic, because as it is today i personally have never heard a voice synth that is imo convincing as human or realistic. i always think its very obvious to spot engine noise in a voice synth and the lack of human vocal quirks. personally i havent found solaria any more human sounding than any other recent eng vb.
maybe im glad about that though, cause for me achieving 100% realism has never really been the goal

If I may hyperfixate a bit: I know I’m just Behind on the Times or whatever, but I just genuinely don’t understand the sheer praise Solaria has received. People have called her the greatest vocalsynth ever released, the most realistic, a barrier-breaker, a game-changer… but she sounds like any other AI synth we’ve had in the past, honestly. I think Saki AI English sounds higher-quality than her to be honest. I like her tone, and I think she has amazing potential, but I don’t think that potential is Exponentially Higher than any other AI bank we have now. But Solaria has become untouchable, uncriticizable, and it’s just… strange to me.

AI banks are becoming continually more realistic, but I’ve yet to hear one that can genuinely pass as human, and it’s making me think I’m broken, stupid, or some combination of the two.😅

This is a straight up essay but it's just because I'm excited and passionate about the topic, hopefully it reads that way. When I write I write a lot and I am so sorry lol

I've never listened to a demo and said "yes, that's human now", so I definitely agree. But, just based on the discussions I've had with more casual fans, I think the concern on the part of those people is that the nature of the voice has changed. And I don't know if many people have the background knowledge to describe this on twitter or wherever else people discuss this stuff. "Realistic" might not be the right label for seasoned listeners, but for a lot of people the AI driven voices sound more real to them. I would tend to agree that it sounds 'more real', at a technical level the voices are beginning to resemble human voices more in a number of ways (dreamtonics' videos peek into this a bit)

Because of the nature of 'AI voices', voices on the same engine tend to have similar traits, and it diminishes the differences between the effect of two separate people using the voice to an extent. That's how I interpret the complaints of it being "too human", even though the voices aren't "human". It's why Japanese voices are still shipping with standard voice libraries.

I think English vocal synth listeners tend to have more extreme reactions to these advancements than other groups. It is my belief that the reason for this is that English as a language is benefiting far more from AI synthesis than Japanese voices. Japanese AI voices obviously have the capacity to sound fantastic but IMO the effect is particularly strong for English. I'm not going to pretend I have the technical vocabulary to describe why this is but I'm pretty sure it's been discussed before. (Also, just to say, I hope non-AI english libraries don't go away entirely.)

So yeah, TL;DR I don't think these voices sound indistinguishable from human beings but I also get why people (particularly young people) are excited and tbh I share their excitement. It makes me hope for a future where more people learn to make music and DTM and stuff with vocal synths, and publish it in English.

I'd agree that English benefits from AI more than Japanese. To my ears, the moraic nature of the Japanese language works quite convincingly with oLd SkOoL concatenative technologies, but English not so much.

But that's coming from the perspective of a non-tuner.
@patuk asked to see my hello kitty tv on twitter and figured id share it here since it's perhaps the most "cafenurse" thing i own

@patuk i have another lily plushie hanging on my vanity hehe. i literally just unpacked my plushie/stuffed animal box last week, i used to collect a bunch cause my old place had space for them but i have no space for them here so finding a place to shove them all was a nightmare :kaito_lili:

wanted to have my song out by the end of jan but then i very last minute commissioned art for it so :kyo_lili: after the art is done and i put together a vid it'll be released! i just have some mixing and mastering to do in the meantime.
