  • I have to find a good article to use for a debate next week, but when all the good ones I find are either too long to read in time before the due date or I have to pay for a subscription to read it

Why is it so hard to find good information

I appreciate it! It's a debate on whether Bitcoin should be a legal currency. My team is for it, and I need to find one article to write my research for. It's due by sunday morning so I need to find one that won't take too long to read and comprehend. If you're willing to help, I'd love that, but I won't force you to either

    thank you so much!!!!
It's been more than two weeks since the MaikaZine deadline and my team and I barely have any progress on putting it together

    I'm getting really nervous rn
It's getting late but I'm too scared to sleep, so guess I'll draw stuff till I'm sleepy
Because I know you guys will handle topics like this well: How do you feel personally when artists draw Miku black or as a person of color? I personally like it and I don't really get it when people get so worked up about it.

Miku does have a canon appearance (skin & hair colour). Personally I don't understand why would you need to depict her as something other than Japanese. If somebody wants to draw stuff like that for fun and keep it to themselves it's none of my business, but I don't get why would somebody do that. Racebending is kinda borderline racist too, essentially it's no different from whitewashing.

I've gotta disagree, though I do see where you're coming from. Miku is Japanese, and she does have a canon appearance. However, it's a regularly accepted thing to divert canon appearances, especially for her (we've got a whole thread devoted to discussing the range of hair colors she's depicted with), and she's often depicted with skin that's pale even by caucasian standards, so I don't personally see the issue with portraying her with skin darker than a typical Japanese person's. On top of that, she's meant to be an open slate, meaning that you could just as easily make her not Japanese (correct me if I'm wrong, but she's German, or at least the fantasy equivalent, in one of Mothy's works, isn't she?). I know that's a bit of a slippery slope, though, as people could easily (and sometimes do) use that as justification to whitewash her, so I definitely see where you're coming from.

It's also possible to depict her as mixed-race but raised up in/embracing Japanese culture in particular, a lot like this man:

The thing with hair colour is that there's some leeway for artists to alter it depending on their preferences and the desired atmosphere of an artwork. Same applies to skintone to an extent. I mean, sure she can have tanned skin, especially if an artwork is depicting her in summer or stuff like that. The problem for me arises when people change her identity from Japanese to something else. I respect your opinion that Miku is like a blank canvas open for interpretation. The only canon and formally accepted guidelines to who she is can only come from CFM. My personal opinion is that what Crypton has given us fans and creators regarding Miku are to be respected and we are allowed to build our Miku on that basis while minding what CFM has established as canon and making sure our headcanons don't clash with that.
And mind you, it's not just about Miku. I'm not a fan of racebending any characters into any direction, I feel it's questionable and can be a pretty sensitive thing.

As far as songs go, I see her just as a singer who transmits the lyrics, and the stories and people in them are someone else/undefined, not Miku herself. This is naturally open for personal interpretation.
I'm making pretty good progress on my Harvest Avanna design, but I'm having trouble figuring out the top part of her outfit

Thanks! I appreciate the offer, but I think I just need some inspiration that's all. I could send you what I have so far though. I could use another person's opinion

I want to draw something for their anniversary but I think I'll be too busy today (plus they kinda intimidate me;;;)
Today is Leon and Lola's 16th anniversary and also the 16th anniversary of Vocaloid itself. They're as old as I am and that's so crazy. It's incredible how far it's come both as a software and as a fandom.
It's funny how my mikus look better in traditional art than when I draw her in digital. Same goes for lineart

all my traditional art is leagues above my digital, being able to draw digitally is like a whole new skillset

Indeed it is. When I first started, I thought it was all the same lol
Vocalounge intrigues me, but idk, I still have my suspicions about it. I don't know why, but I guess I'll stick with here and Twitter for now

@patuk It's nothing really that interesting, but the whole thing's still new as far as I've seen. Anything can happen with new things. Plus this platform can be seen as an alternative to Twitter. Although this can be seen as benificial, I don't really believe in abandoning things when things get out of hand. It's mainly just my personal doubts about it, nothing much. :miku2_move:

A lot of my references comes from looking at random people passing by. It's the most realistic as you can get really.
