I was looking at the potential in adapting the lyrics to "HIBANA" by DECO*27. Translates to "SPARKS." I'm reading over it again and again and I gotta say: I'm not sure I understand this song. Is it poetic expressions and colloquialisms that are making this hard to translate, or is it just because the lyrics are open-ended and vague? Or am I just oblivious?
I've been writing adapted versions of songs as a practice exercise for writing lyrics. But I have to understand them to do that! @_@
I wonder if I'm reading too much into it when I observe that DECO*27 went from writing cute, happy songs the first few years, then for a number of years all his songs were about dysfunctional relationships. Now he's back to writing more upbeat songs again.

Maybe it's describing a first date Anticipation of where things could lead Talking about jitters and awkwardness small talk and jokes that fail to land despite this a determination to get a kiss Is this playing hard-to-get or are they actually refusing the other? Shooting the head could refer to mind games or forcefully changing the other's mind They don't want a serious relationship Seems like they're saying the other needs to "step up their game" so to speak if they want to win them over. I guess they're saying they failed to "seal the deal" (I don't know, this could have nothing to do with dating) now they're in the same situation, failing at finding someone else to be with. Nothing better going on so they go out again, more forgiving of the other's faults (I'm honestly just kinda puzzled here) (English Verse and I'm just more perplexed by it) "get the ace" ??? You'll cry over something you didn't think you would Steeling your heart to either commit to the relationship or end the relationship... and toss out your SMG? (I'm not sure if the song is from one or two perspectives) Some sort of indecision seems to be going on Or a refusal to recognize their feelings? Maybe self-sabotaging behavior? commitment and a willingness to be vulnerable or just saying that what they have between them isn't enough or is unexciting one saying it's not good enough and it's over or it's fine, but it's not what they want is one pleading with the other not to end it or is this internal conflict about knowing they're giving up a good thing when they shouldn't Is this whole thing about the conflict between choosing a stable relationship or an exciting one? Do they have such a pathological tendency toward dysfunctional relationships that they can't handle an average, normal one? Or maybe this is a dysfunctional relationship and the can't seem to give it up despite saying they want to do so? I dunno, there's obviously conflict here, but it's unclear to me exactly what it's about. It could just be a rant that the other person really sucks at being romantic. Are they conflicted about their own feelings or are the two at odds about what each wants from the other? I guess one thing's for sure: na na na na na na na na na~ |
