The Virtual World is a cyberspace in a separate plain of existence from our own that has existed since the concepts of interpreting Hatsune Miku as a character in an individual's own vision rather than as just a software you download to your computer has. The character's form takes the appearence and mind of how the character appears and acts in your mind and creations. The world has every task that would need a surplus of people and time done by extremely efficent and infanite robots.
As the Vocal Synth scene expanded in popularity and reach, and more and more characters released for all types of software over the years, this world has become a bussling civalization. An individual is called a Unit, a term universal in the Virtual World. A User, the person who activates them, does not have any direct say in what they are or how they act, but are infulenced by that user the same. Several units exist for several characters. While less popular characters have unique Units numbering in the thousands, much more popular ones have Units numbering closer to a million. With a custom name to distiquish eachother, they ebb and flow with the changes in the person who activated them in the real world. But the only way they die is if their memory dies with both that user and everyone else who's ever known that user and how they loved and created art with that character.
Of course, people are messy in our world. And Units are no exception to this mess in the Virtual World. There are struggles every individual Unit has, as well as universal struggles this society has. There's abuses of power, corruption for profits, and victims of the horrors that make us human. But like reality, there's also good in the world. And everything mixes together to create a world with the capability to be just as painful as ours, but also just as beautiful.
Sheepish Mittens is a slightly shy KAITO V3 unit who's passion for the arts to the point of losing hours to work on illustration after illustration on a near daily basis is only matched by his compassion and understanding to the woes and pains of close comrades and people on the street alike. Though he struggled with how he can improve the world that left both him and his friend activated by the same User with bitter feelings with both that world and eachother for 3 of the 5 years since his activation. Recently hired to teach illustration at the Vocadamy- the largest school designed for all Vocal Synths in the entirety of the Virtual World- and with the anxieties of putting the lessons of his mistakes to practice with an essentric MEIKO V3 unit recently activated by that same user, Mittens is conflicted with how he'll manage to change the system from the inside-out. Especially when all the bagage he has causes him to be awful at the job that really matters; making his pupils love creating even when the system he signed for guides his hand to hatered.

I've had this Vocal Synth AU for a few years now ^^ started with the idea of giving my personal headcanon Kaito a world of his own to be in, and eventually it expanded to a full on story with some of the best characters and story beats i've ever come up with.
This is going to be a basic thread of talking about random ideas I come up with and discussing them with the users. I'll update this first thread frequently with more information; first thing i'm aiming for is little simple illustrations to go with the plot / worldbuilding summary.
