Orchestrions are cool, for those unfamiliar. They operate on the same principle as a player piano: air is blown against a paper scroll with holes punched in it (which looks very similar to a MIDI roll), and that triggers mechanical actuations to play physical instruments. This would include drums, organs, etc.


Orchestrions are also the conceit used in the MMO Final Fantasy XIV for replaying music in player housing: you collect rolls of music from boss fights or quests and play them in the orchestration in your house/apartment.
