Having some difficulties mixing this. The vocals and the music seem to battle each other for dominance and the vocals somehow sound bland, I guess? It's hard for me to tell because my earbuds have pathetic audio quality right now. Any advice would be highly appreciated!

I think the vocal is too loud, so it sounds disconnected. I don't know much about this style, but I would also suggest i little more bass in the music mix.
And maybe cut the vocal in the 2KhZ area to make it less harsh, but that depends on your intention with the song.
