It's finally finished! This one has been sitting on my hard drive almost complete for a hot minute now, so it's nice to have it finally completed. For context, I started this cover about a week after the song first came out, so this has been ongoing for quite a bit.
The biggest problem (as you can likely hear) is that Luka is not designed to go this low. YARARARA gets down really, really low in some parts, somewhere around C3. Because of this, the software struggles to process it. You know how Vocaloids get really loud on high notes? Well, the opposite happens for low notes, and that's what you're hearing here. Because of that, mixing is a pain, and I had to apply HEAVY compression to make them decently audible.
Also, Luka v4x E.V.E.C is kind of hard to work with. The E.V.E.C function does allow for more expression, as the name implies, but it comes at the cost of quite a bit of choppiness in return. Pair that with her strange quirks regarding pitch bends, and she just is not fun to tune for the most part.
Regardless, I needed a reason to use Luka, and I really like this song, so I decided to cover it! Ironically, another cover with Luka v4x already exists, but I was working on this before that one released and that one uses a ported to UTAU Luka that has basically no consonants, so I kept going with this cover. And I'm glad I did! While this was quite difficult to make, I learned a lot about the process of tuning and mixing, so it was worth it in the end.
