Project Mirai series is a masterpiece and I absolutely love it<3
I love playing the Project Mirai games on my 3DS, they are so nice and relaxing, they have an unique feeling:miku_lili::luka_lili::len_smile_lili::rin_smile_lIlI::kaito_smile_lili::meiko_lili:
and in case you didn't know, here are some interesting things about the series:
- Project Mirai was developed by same Project Diva Arcade team, since the Project Diva home team was making Diva F and Diva F 2nd for PS Vita/PS3
- it wasn't possible to bring original Project Diva to Nintendo console because there was a 10 year exclusivity deal with Sony Playstation (that's why Project Diva arrived later on Switch as Mega 39s, with also the support of Playstation buttons during the gameplay)
- the early version of Project Mirai was using Project Diva F models, but there were some issues because 3DS chip wasn't as powerful as PS Vita, so the team signed a deal with Good Smile Company and chose the Nendoroid models
- it started simple as a spin-off, because they still didn't know the 3DS audience, and each title got more and more love from 3DS users, both Project Diva fans and new fans of the series that loved how it looked and played
- the series got many many mini-games (even a full Puyo Puyo game), costumes, extra features, 2D MVs and 3D MVs, as well as full-length songs
- Project Mirai sold so well that the launch weeks in Japan had some stocks issues
- it is actually thanks to Project Mirai that Magical Mirai is named like that. It started as an event made by SEGA and Crypton to promote songs of both Project Diva and Project Mirai series:miku_lili:
- Gumi is playable in Project Mirai:gumi_lili:
- there are some rumors that a Project Mirai collection could arrive on Switch (or Switch 2, or also PC and PS4) in the future:miku_sakura_lili:

I love Project Mirai! I still play it every once in a while whenever I go on my 3DS. There was so much to do in that game. Just like I greatly miss Project Diva I miss Project Mirai too.

Is there a public source for this or did you hear it through your connections in the gaming industry?
both! :utaneuta_smile_lili: there is an interest about the series (and also about some Project Diva titles), and Sega CEO said many times that he wishes to bring back all or almost all Sega titles from the past years as collections, remakes or new titles, the main issue that can take more time than usual is about the songs licenses, who made the 2D MVs, and the various costumes designers. Nintendo is also open to bring back titles from 3DS/Wii time period (they help to do so), because thankfully they can understand when a title has good gameplay and features:gumi_lili:

I know Sega has been bringing back older titles and IP's but isn't Miku technically a third party IP since she's under Crypton?

I mean they have all the animations from concerts can't they just use some of those?

it's a bit complicated, because while Crypton owns all the copyrights, SEGA owns the IP of Project Diva, Project Mirai, Project Sekai and the exclusive use of Miku model in games and concerts (with their company Marza Animation Planet). So any plans for future collections/remakes are to be decided together ^-^
and yes, you're right that from a tech point of view, they could already make new games or remakes. The problem are the songs licenses, especially for popular producers, can be very expensive, so it can be easier to start first with making some collections or remakes, where the songs licenses have already been paid. Everything is possible, it just takes more time ^-^
