Project: Epic the Musical UTAU/Synth Covers

Hello fellow VocaVerse users!

As some of you know, I’ve been working on a massive project: covering all of Epic: The Musical using my UTAUs! I have specific roles mapped out for each major character, but I'm just a man (reference intended!) trying to make these covers as amazing as possible.

My current issue? I’ve been using the exact same group of UTAUs for the crew, the suitors, and general backup vocals. Because of that, it lacks that epic, overwhelming feeling of a "whole fleet singing." I want to truly capture that "108 suitors / 600 men" energy for the heavy ensemble tracks. Doing this alone on my computer— well- my brothers computer takes forever to load once I hit 20+ vocal tracks, and it still doesn't sound quite right.

:yokuneruko_lili:Where You Come In!

Whenever the crew, suitors, or major backup ensembles sing, I am looking for volunteers to render and tune a few lines. I am open to any engine—UTAU, Vocaloid, SynthV, CeVIO, or whatever you use! As long as I can get a tuned audio recording of a synth singing the part, it works.

  • What I will provide: A MIDI file (via MuseScore) containing both the vocal melodies and instrumental guides.

  • What I need: At most, 1 to 4 vocal recordings max per volunteer. I recommend 4 because some sections have up to four distinct harmonic parts, so it would be amazing to get one vocal for each harmonic layer!

  • Crediting: Everyone who contributes will absolutely be credited when the final covers are posted!

:yohioloid_lili:Songs That Need Massive Backup Vocals

  • The Horse and the Infant
  • Just a Man
  • Full Speed Ahead
  • Survive
  • Remember Them
  • My Goodbye
  • Storm
  • Luck Runs Out
  • Keep Your Friends Close
  • Ruthlessness (mainly the ending)
  • Puppeteer
  • Wouldn’t You Like (for those crisp harmonics!)
  • There Are Other Ways (the ending section)
  • The Underworld (pretty much half the song!)
  • Monster (only a few lines)
  • Different Beast
  • Scylla
  • Mutiny
  • Legendary
  • Little Wolf
  • Not sorry for loving you
  • Six Hundred Strike
  • The Challenge
  • Hold Them Down
  • Odysseus
Current Progress & Immediate Needs

Right now, I am actively working on the following four tracks, and I desperately need backup vocals for three of them:

  • Scylla (Still fixing up a lot of the main tracks)

  • The Challenge 🔄 (Needs Backups!)

  • The Underworld 🔄 (Needs Backups!)

  • God Games (Doesn't have many backup vocals, so I'm good on this one!)

  • In Vain (Cut song from the Cut Saga—absolute peak, but it has no backups at all, so no vocals needed here!)

If you are interested in lending your synths to the fleet, for The underworld or The challenge drop a comment or send me a demo, and I’ll gladly give you the files to add your voice to the mix! And also I’m alright with any song as long as I get demo’s for the vocals! And as long as it’s any song that’s listed that includes backup vocals I’ll take it!

This is the biggest project I’ve ever tackled, and any help would be incredibly appreciated. (I'm starting to sound a bit like Jorge doing ensemble auditions, aren't I?) Let's make something legendary!

Hi I might be interested! Is it ok that idk anything about Epic: The Musical? I was into Greek myths and stuff as a kid but never got around to checking the musical out lol

Also I would like a bit more clarification for some parts bc I'm having trouble understanding some things. The backup vocals could just be any vsynth right? Just so long as it can sing the provided lyrics? Also what's the deadline? What kinda tuning are you looking for? And do we need to individually mix our finished results?

No it’s totally alright if you don’t know it! So yes the backup vocals can be any and I mean any vsynth! Just as long as they sing provided lyrics and I’m not particularly picky when it comes to tuning, and as of right now there is no deadline, it’s just something anyone can join at any point (unless said otherwise which I’m still trying to work out lol-) and it would be great if the recordings provided are mixed beforehand since I’ll be trying to blend all the vocals to make it sound… not like an alarm-

Sounds good, I'd be interested to help! Although with mixing, my hearing has deteriorated and I can't see a doctor until end of October, I'll still try to attempt the mixing, but I'll warn that it might sound off

I'm interested! I only have a few vocal synths (outside of utaus), but I'd love to help! I can do semi-decent tuning/mixing, and I do have a lot of UTAU voicebanks that I haven't used. The list of voicebanks I have at the moment for Vocaloid is Meiko V3, Luka v4x, and AVANNA, and the list for SynthV is Teto, Renri SynthV, NYL, SAROS, and Mo Xu. Just send me the files you need tuned, and I'll get started.

That’s totally okay! I seriously do not mind, I’m so glad you’re willing to help! Is there any particular song from the list that interests you at all? If there is I’ll gladly get the MIDI file to ya!

Okay! So if you want you can just pick a song from the list, or if you’d like I can provide links for the files for the songs I’m currently working on as of now!
(If you do want to do the songs I’m working on then here’s the files! So for “Scylla” your main priority would be the “full spread ahead” for the crew, and any other parts where the crew is included! For “The challenge”, you’d be working on the suitors smaller parts like “time is fleeting its running out, time to be the man of the house” or the various “Penelope’s” included in the song, honestly take your pick I don’t mind! then also as of now I’m not too worried about the other three songs, these two are taking priority since I’m almost done tuning them!

I don't mind whichever! How many backup singers do you need for each of them?

Edit: I looked through the musescore links you sent to Bookworm2, I'm kinda interested in "The Challenge" but if that's already taken I don't mind "Scylla" either, these are really cool songs!

Okay so I highly recommend at least four backup singers for each harmonic, but honestly if you’d like add as many vocals as you want! And anyone can do the same song, you’re totally free to do any song you’d like, so if you’re interested in “the challenge” then go for it! (I’m really not limiting anyone since this project was meant to be a fun one!)
