Will the Blu-ray have English subtitles? I enjoyed the movie quite a lot and hope the Japanese release has subtitles so I don't have to wait for a US release. :miku_lili:

you can pre-order the Blu-Ray on AmiAmi, so you'll have the best quality version possible in terms of video, audio and also contents ^-^
(the japanese blu-ray won't have subtitles, but with media players like VLC you can play the blu-ray and load an external fansub)

I will definitely get the physical release someday, but currently I don't have a way to play them nor money to buy both a BluRay drive and the movie. I'll find a way to watch it eventually for sure, but you know, watching in a theater kinda hits different, especially if your home setup is just a 24" screen and headphones.
Also, I don't know Japanese, so I definitely would need subs first, which might take a while - either until the physical release actually ships and then some time after that for some fansub group to pick it up, or if nobody cares that much, until a streaming/physical worldwide release.
Update: I checked, and apparently there is a camrip with official English hardsubs. Obviously watching camrips is bleh, but this means proper subs won't take long once the Japanese physical release ships.

Went to the UK Premiere at BFI IMAX hosted by All the Anime! The screen was so huge, perfect to see Miku in all her glory. There were posters and a cardboard cupout of Shuttered sekai Miku to take photos with. Before the movie started a couple of the All the anime and IMAX staff came out and laid out the rules (no phones, etc) and thanked all of us for coming and the BFI IMAX for hosting the event. It was fun watching and laughing with other Sekai fans, seeing all the plushies people brought (even saw a zundamon and lots of tetos). I'm glad we are finally able to watch the movie in UK and Irish cinemas ^^

I really really recommend the Blu-Ray, the quality is incredible, they did a fantastic job with all the additional contents, like the special PVs and all the concerts that were played after the movie.
The video quality is so clear and vivid, you can appreciate all the details of the movie, and the audio is top level, there are both 5.1 channel and 2.0 channel and also commentary audio.
I got both the regular edition and the limited edition, and they all so worth it, I love them so much :kokone_lili:

I have now seen the movie.

It has Miku in it. What else do you even need.

My thoughts below, they have spoilers probably. I've seen it a week or two ago, so they aren't fresh - sadly I forgot to write everything down at the time, but I remember most of what I have to say I think.

I really enjoyed the culture references, was fun to see all the songs. The story has resemblance to The End, the iconic last verses of it are referenced too.

Since I now play the game, it was nice to see characters and locations I know from there animated. Was wondering how entering SEKAI is actually supposed to look like, well now I know. Empty SEKAI is empty. Wonderland SEKAI vocaloids can jump up 20 meters, I expect no less.

The story is okay I guess. It could be better executed, but as I said, it has Miku in it, that makes up for everything.

I've seen people saying it is confusing if you don't know the game - since I now kinda know the game, I might be biased, but for years I basically have only known that the story is about random people getting personal vocaloid therapists in parallel universes, and I think with only that knowledge I would have been able to make sense of the movie. However, if someone doesn't know what even vocaloid is, I can see how it would be confusing - there is little to no effort made to introduce vocaloid, SEKAI, or the worst-case-56-best-case-26 characters. To be honest it would take a looot of screen time so I can see why they didn't do that.

There is a part of the movie where we see 6 songs from all the groups back to back, which felt a bit odd, I guess it just wasn't as integrated into the whole as I'd like.

I love the scene where the thing happens to Empty SEKAI Miku and everyone's reaction (including herself) is "ok". "It only took Miku." (lmao)

I am not an anime person, so I don't know if the animation is objectively good, but I liked it. There were a few weird moments where there was noticeable CGI (and obviously the best CGI is one you don't notice), also one particular moment where they used static images instead of animating the scene (idk maybe that is supposed to be referencing the story illustrations in the game, but I found it odd and immersion breaking).

The score was, of course, produced by famous vocaloid producers. It's good, as expected, some of the songs I like a lot, like そこに在る、光。 and FUN!!. I've actually heard a decent bit of these before the movie, the vocaloid versions that is, not the SEKAI ones, which are featured here.

So, the movie was fun. Still sad I didn't get to see it on the big screen.

glad you enjoyed it!! I also recommend to watch it again after some time, because you'll notice small nice details here and there(●'◡'●)🎈
The blu-ray version is so good, so good for both video and audio quality, both when listening with headphones and speakers, and with all the extra content on the discs of the limited edition, you'll actually enjoy more and more compared to the theater (which always brings good atmosphere, but enjoying at home is so good too!).
They also announced web streaming on NicoNico and Abema from January 17th (for overseas, maybe some weeks later, but Blu-ray is always the best choice):
