[UPDATED] Has projectdiva.wiki shut down for good?

[UPDATE - The site went back up in the few hours after posting! The thread is now mostly irrelevant, but I'm going to keep it up here for preservation sake.]

---

There's two Project Diva wikis I frequently used; the one hosted on fandom, and the independent .wiki one [Link]. While the fandom wiki is fine and has clearer images, it doesnt have much information on anything besides the songs, modules, and surface level information, especially for the older mainline games (the PSP, F series and X games). It also comes with the nuclear downside of being hosted by Fandom, a cartoonishly evil company that I try to avoid any wiki it hosts unless absolutely necessary.

I used to use projectdiva.wiki a lot whenever I had the urge to play an older Project Diva game. It had a lot more information on specifics of the older games (like unlocking modules and items and specific information on the Diva Room). It wasn't perfect, but having all the information consolidated to a single site beat digging through 12 year old GameFAQ forum posts for Project Diva F2nd.

A few weeks ago, I tried to visit it and got a 522 "Connection timed out" error on the host's side. Once every few days, I'd try again but I'd get the same error. It's still throwing an error up to today.

I know independent wiki's are a pain in both the buttocks and wallet to maintain, especially for a game who's last non re-release game was nearly a decade ago with no future games planned (I count Project Sekai as its own separate franchise). Though it is extremely sad, I would totally understand if it needed to shut down since it was too costly to keep up but not getting enough traffic to justify it.

I'm wondering if it's just an error and the wiki will come back up soon, if the error is showing up the same for everyone else, if the wiki ever announced it was going down or if there's any other wiki or database focused on Project Diva besides the .wiki one and the one hosted on Fandom.

I just wished that Fandom didn't suck so much, or there were more options for independent Wiki's to start up and stay functional...

Oh, yeah! It appears to be back up now! Very interesting. I'm going to edit the original post to add that.

So this is how I find out...

About half a year ago I noticed that the wiki is overrun by spam. I contacted an admin of the wiki, Hatsune Miku (yes, that's their name), who told me that they have no real way to fight it, that they do not have access to the server (so they can't fix the issue of not having a real way to fight it), and that not many people care about the wiki anymore. They granted me admin access, and we removed the spam together (they manually removed pages, I wrote a script to spam the API a bit and automatically block all the spammers).

I asked who should I ask if I want to help maintaining the server, including actually getting rid of spam for good. They told me Brolijah is the person who hosts it, so I contacted them. I have not gotten a response, and I have asked for updates every few months. Meanwhile, I monitored the wiki for the occasional spam, which got a lot less bad (spammers got discouraged by our heroic page deletions? idk lol).

After seeing this post, I messaged Brolijah again. This is the first time I got a response.

Tbh probably for the best. I've been putting off closing the sites for some time now.
I had a backup of the wiki already, in case this happens, however it was months out of date (and in that time, some users actually contributed new information, mainly module images). I also learned that the plural "sites" was not a typo - other than the wiki, Brolijah hosts Project DIVA forums, at ProjectDIVA.net.

I asked for them to temporarily put these back online, so I can make a new backup of the wiki, as well as a backup of the forums. They have not responded, however, it seems that my ask has been granted, so this is what I'm doing right now.

I will definitely be hosting the wiki once it's down for good, so if you care about it, stay tuned. I'm not sure whether I'll be able to convince Brolijah to transfer the domain to me (and .wiki is also an expensive TLD, so if they do, I hope yall can help me fund renewals), but it will definitely exist in some shape or form.

PS. If anyone here has an account on the forums, please message me. An account is required to access certain content (file downloads, it seems), but registration is broken, and I'm not sure if I should ask Brolijah to fix it, they seem like a busy person.

Hello there, MikuHatsune here, the person who used to operate projectdiva.wiki and projectdiva.net .

I did talk to OP on discord because i had trouble logging in to this forum (lost access to my old 2FA but luckily found my backup codes now) but felt like I should also mention some details here as well.

The person who hosts both sites ever since VNN (Vocanews Network) was abandoned by its team coincidentally noticed today that both, the wiki and its forums were offline and we were kinda talking about if we should bring the websites back or not. We happened to come accross this thread by pure coincidence when we were talking about other sites which went offline over the years or became inactive and honestly we didn't expect anyone would still care about the wiki nowadays.

We're still not sure if its still worth to keep the forums up but we'll keep the wiki up for now.

About the reason why the sites were offline in the first place:

While I don't have a full wiki backup on my own storage (i think I still have a backup of the wikispaces version of it from 2018), i still have all images and graphical assets i created for the wiki like banners, logos, the april fools jokes and several other stuff.
Just in case the site will ever shut down entirely, the wiki is pretty much archived text-wise, if anything is missing it's images sometimes.
To link two examples, here's an archived version i found of the MediaWiki version as well as the original Wikispaces version from 2018:
