So I watched the movie yesterday, and I thought I'd just share my opinion here

I try to make it as spoiler-free as possible, but I can't promise anything

I've already read critiques before watching, and for most parts, I agree with what has been said, both positive and negative remarks. The movie didn't disappoint me but it didn't suprass all my expectations either. One aspect that the movie excels in is crafting a story that is engaging for both Vocaloid and Project Sekai fans. It took place in the Project Sekai setting but there were a ton of hidden references that someone who's just playing the game wouldn't have noticed. On the other side if you aren't familar with pjsekai the amount of characters was most likely overwhelming. Since a movie is tied to a time limit there wasn't really much time to dive into anyone's backstory, especially since it was Miku-centered, so I can forgive that. They even had a quite good solution but I won't dive deeper in that because I try to keep it spoiler-free.

This has been mentioned in this thread before, but there were a ton of already existing Miku songs, which was a detail I loved. As for the original soundtrack, I was disappointed. Yes, I've listened to the songs beforehand, and yes, I know they probably wanted to play it safe, but aside from the ending and maybe the Leo/Need one every other song is pretty forgettable imo. This saddens me because I do know that there are popular Project Sekai commissions that are much more memorable, such as Lower One's Eyes, Cinema, Beat Eater etc.

Aside from the story which was really cool I also liked the overall animation and atmosphere of the movie a lot. It just felt very warm and welcoming especially with all the references and how much detail some of the scenaries had. I also love that when the characters has conversation the camera angle made it seem like you're a fifth member listen to your friends talk.

Overall rating: 7.5/10

It was good! I don't know any of the Project Sekai characters, but knew just enough about the premise to get by.

I liked all of the little references to different vocaloid songs, and how some of the signs on buildings were vocaloid producers.

I was more lost. I just know it was a interdemensional thing. I recognize some of the videos they showed on the computer screens. Most of the messages flashed by too quick for me to read. The credits where low resolution but I seen some Korean names in latin, the Kanji was hard to read but I was able to read the kana at the resolution they showed us and piece together some of the text in the movie. Spoken Japanese is comprehensible and the audio clarity is impeccable in the theater. I was a good experience for me.

Just watched the movie and I am shaking with adrenaline. Nearly started crying 5 times. Super happy they played my favorite song (Darling Dance) It was so amazing to be surrounded by other Miku fans. First thing I saw when I walked into the theater was someone in Len cosplay and I almost lost it. My friend who knows nothing about PJSK said that she only really understood the 2nd half. She still had a great time though. Overall amazing experience.

I loved the movie! I knew nothing about Project Sekai and did not realize until way too late it's like an interdimensional thing and the other groups didn't know about the other people's Sekais. Especially because the first Sekai they show you is the one that takes place in a school so I just thought it was an after school club...took me until the empty place where I was like oooh okay. But even then I didn't realize til the near end of the movie the groups didn't know about each other.
Still I really liked it, super heartwarming plot, beautiful animation, I liked the music, loved the references. Since I don't know Project Sekai I was lost for like the first 30 minutes but afterwards it was easy to follow.
I'd watch it again!

I loved the movie so much that I went to go see it again! I haven't played Project Sekai in a while but I knew all the characters and backstories so I was caught up thank god. I loved all the songs and references. Vivid Bad Squad's song gave me goosebumps in the theater with those booming speakers (they're my favorite group). It made me wanna play Project Sekai again after a while even though I have a lot to catch up on. Seeing Miku, Luka, and everyone else on the big screen was a delight and I had a wonderful time. <3
