Hi everyone! I recently bought a new laptop, only to have to return it because I kept getting errors trying to install Vocaloid software. The errors were something along the lines of "device not found," and from my brief internet research, looked like it could mean something as simple as a problem with the hard drive. I remember it giving these errors when I was trying to install V4 voice banks, such as the Luka V4, Kagamine, or Fukase banks.
I admit the laptop cost only $800, but my current laptop (on which Vocaloid 4, 5, and 6 software works fine) is very similar, the main difference being that the Intel i7 processor is two generations older than that of the new one I tried. It has 16 GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive. I currently have the ZOLA V3, VY2V3, and YOHIOloid V3 banks, the Kagamine, Luka, Fukase, VY1V4, DEX, and DAINA V4 banks, and all 16 free V6 voice banks. Installing them has never been a problem in the past, though I think my DVDs are beginning to wear out on my physical copies.
Whenever I've upgraded computers, I've never had to worry about being able to install the Vocaloid software. I know there is now lots of competition to Vocaloid, and I posted earlier on this forum about frustrations I'm having with the V6 Editor, so I know there are better and less frustrating options out there. But since I do mostly choral work, I'm kind of reluctant to spend perhaps $1-2000 to start over with a completely different system like SynthV, and buy maybe 16 new voice banks. On the other hand, if that's what needs to be done, perhaps I should start saving up. If any of you know anything about orchestral music software, then you'll know what I mean when I say that I've used Finale for 35 years since its inception, but it is now being shut down, and we the users were all encouraged to buy Dorico at an attractive crossgrade price. Likewise, my days of being able to use the Kagamine and Luka voice banks are certainly numbered, and from what I've read on this forum, it could be that Vocaloid as a whole is headed for the trash can.
So here are my questions: How can I be sure that when I try buying a new laptop again, I will be able to install the Vocaloid software? Or is it simply getting to the point where Vocaloid software will no longer work on a modern Windows computer? Finally, is there a way to legally convert my (legally purchased) Vocaloid DVD software to files that I can carry on a USB drive, like I'm currently doing with all my (also legally purchased) digital copy installers?
Thank you all for reading, and in advance for any advice!
