i try not to talk about it to much cause some people get really heated defending the franchise. but idk man, i just havent been able to enjoy a pokemon game in a long time :( at least i'll always have soul silver.

Pokemon fans are really fickle bunch, haha. I try to avoid interacting with the "fandom" when I can because they get so heated over opinions.
Have you considered playing any of the fan games people have made? I'm not super familiar with them but I know there's a few really popular ones (Pokemon Uranium comes to mind for me)--maybe those might be more your cup of tea!
